I'm two and a half years out. My sleeve has not gone away. I still use it as a tool. I put in the work of choosing healthy habits.
The further out from surgery, you will be able to eat more. I can eat 4oz of chicken. Less dense foods like salad I can eat a cup. I still have restriction. Its not the same as the first stages of surgery. But its still working.

I don't think a sleeve ever "expires". But, it does change over time, and that's variable from one person to the next. I'm 4 years post op this month. I have to work really hard to maintain my weight. And if I don't watch every bite, and go even slightly off track, I gain. I can eat quite a bit at one time, even dense Protein. I didn't cause my sleeve to stretch, that's just the way it is. I think it was a bigger from the beginning.
Anyway, even with all that, I still have restriction. I do get hungry now, but still nothing like before surgery. Obesity is a chronic disease that I have to manage with diet and exercise. No magic pill or surgery fixes it. WLS did give me a huge boost and helped me get my weight to a healthy range, and the immediate post op year taught me how to lose weight, but now it's all up to me.
I'm WAY better off now than I was 4 years ago.

For most people the sleeve does stretch/relax some and you do get some return of hunger. There is no exact date for it though, and it's not like everything completely vanishes! I can eat what I consider "small normal" meals -- 3 ounces of dense Protein and a couple ounces of veggies. That's twice as much as I could eat at, say 6 months out (I am 3+ years out now). I do get a lot hungrier than I did at 6 months, but again, nothing like pre-op, where I often felt out of control with respect to food.< /p>
It really does matter a lot that you adopt good habits and commit to them to life. A year out, most people can eat large quantities of slider foods such as chips and Cookies. And the more you eat, the more you want, and the hungrier you get. So yes, it does get to the point where it takes work. Real work! But continued healthy eating is possible, where before the operation it was not possible (on a long term basis) for me. Good luck!

If you didn't see the original post, you have no context through which your reply even matters, so...

Wow, I find this post to be incredibly rude. I did see the original post and Miss Impala's reply matters because it is factually correct. It isn't coloured and skewed by an emotional response to the original post as some of the others.
I'm puzzled by your reluctance to accept the reality that there are people on these boards who are not from the US and therefore will be puzzled by some of the local idiosyncrasies. Many people across the globe view Americans as insular and ignorant of things that go on beyond their borders, I don't believe that to be true as I love and work with Americans every day. Unfortunately these kinds of responses only play into that stereotype. Frankly it looks like "rightfighting" to me.
The OP was pretty clear multiple times in this thread that she did not know what bugles are. At first read I was puzzled by what the post was until I of course quickly realized she was Australian and they likely don't have bugles there. I get that some people are slower on the uptick but after several people having explained it I'm not sure where the confusion lies. the thread then veered off, but not the OP's doing or intent of the post. (the spotted d*ick posts won, though IMO).

    Another entertaining read!
This post has it all: people rudely proclaiming how rude others are, folks who rudely exclaim "end of discussion!" as though it were up to them, insulting vets who know more about this process than any of us, and rudely making assumptions/proclamations that "everyone" ate prohibited foods during pre/post op and if we don't admit to it - we're in denial.
I actually followed my surgeon's plan. To. The. Letter. I can eat whatever I want at this stage, but I still haven't had 1 bite of junk food. I'm sure I will eventually, but I have goals and they're just more important to me at this point than anything with starchy carbs.
I'm far from a vet, but I'm already coming around less and less because of the reasons above. Every few days, for entertainment, I like to read the rants and raves.
I only joined the forum after surgery. In preop, I found all the information I could have asked for without having to ask for it. I wanted to join to share my experiences and ask for help is anything came up. Before I joined, I just searched and read the threads with helpful advice. Now that I can see the many (thousands) of posts looking for validation for bad behaviour. Even going so far (as one user here did) to accuse everyone else of the same, or lying about it - all in a desperate attempt to feel okay about it.
It was mentioned above that there is a good reason so many vets have wandered off the site, never to return.

Different time changes for few of us, hence we can't all know about "the latest post, etc"
As I mentioned earlier, I was puzzled about bugles, not sure if we have it here in Australia.
At first I thought: "bagels", this reminded me of beagles that I adore, as well as pugs.
I am sorry if a certain poster or two feel offended, this was NOT Personal !!!
So, for goodness sake, have a bugle, bagel, beagle, whatever
    and listen to the Buggles:
And to all the hangry people, put a smile on your dial, not everything is about you.
As for being called a "BULLY", I choose not to be offended.
Feel free to read all of my 1,000 plus posts and find one that I was "bullying" someone, especially a newbie ...
This anger defies logic. This is why most of the great people here are leaving or left already.
BP will be run by Newbies full of non-experience and lousy advice.
    Merry Christmas to you all.

I apologize, I did not realize you were not talking about the OP, I assumed you were because you did not acknowledge the misinterpretation by some (who even called her a bully). My mistake. I still think telling someone their reply doesn't matter is a bit rude. But I am Canadian, so perhaps overly polite in a global context?

I guess the spelling is somewhat correct. I have seen them with a string hanging out. I guess it was attached to a tea bag? Or was it for flossing afterwards?

I guess the same way an American would be confused by someone from England saying they ate a "spotted dick" by sucking on it to make it mushy...........Hey wait a minute. It isn't as suggestive with a bugle snack.< /p>
