lace131 I feel your pain. I was lucky enough to get a credit card from capital 1 with one year no interest. There were other loaning options with less favorable rates, which I was ready to pay if I had to. I was so desperate I was ready to borrow against my house if I had no other option. Before I investigated the surgery in Mexico I was even willing to go into debt the 25-30 grand that the surgery would have cost in the US. Keep trying to find a solution. Insurance companies are so frustrating!

I self paid my band in Mexico almost 11 yrs ago. At the time I paid around 9,000 for the surgery. I went through all the trying to find the "sweet spot" and was never successful. A little over 4 months ago I made the decision to return to Mexico to have a revision from band to gastric. I paid around 6,000 to have the band removed and have gastric done. BEST DECISION EVER!!! dr. Ponce de leon in Tijuana through Bariatric Pal was a great experience. I borrowed the money and would do it again in a minute. Down 70lbs and going. I feel great! I wouldn't waste any more time trying to make the band work. You deserve to have a surgery that works for you. Good luck.

I was banded in July 2005. I was never successful with the band. I might have lost 20 lbs all together with the band. I did a lot of dieting, just as I had my entire life, but I would only lose while I was eating 500 calories a day and then gain it back. At one point I was even heavier than when I started. I weighed 309 the day of my lap band. Eating bad things was fine, but as soon as I tried to eat lean Protein or vegetables it was uncomfortable going down or would get stuck. I felt like a failure once again. How was it possible to be such a loser that I couldn't even be successful at weight loss even after wl surgery. After 10 years lost with the band I decided to go to Mexico to have a revision to gastric done. The insurance that I have will not cover anything to do with obesity. The great news is after the revision the weight has been coming off steadily. I weighed 288 the day of surgery and at a little over 4 1/2 months I'm down to 227! The gastric has been better than I could have imagined. Anyone who has had the band and not had success please don't waste any more time. I spent 10 years being disgusted with myself because I didn't lose the weight that everyone bragged about, I've since seen that there are many of us who weren't successful. I eat about the same as I did with the band, but now I actually lose weight! Sent from my VS880 using the BariatricPal App

I am now 5 days Post-op band to bypass. I was banded 3 years ago and did great the first year. Then the stomach flu hit me and I got stuck to the point where I couldn't swallow my own saliva and had to rush back to the ED for emergency unfill. My band was never the same after that. I had always had pain in my left shoulder, like most of us had due to the gas build upon only difference was mine lasted until I had the band removed. After my doctor and I tried everything to help, we couldn't fix it. Many trips to the ED later, my doc said it needs to come out. So I started the process all over again and this time I decided to be revised to bypass. When I woke up from surgery (which went flawlessly) the doctor told me she found out why I was having pain in my left ribcage area, below my sternum and in my left shoulder. The left ribcage was from the band or the tubing rubbing against my diaphragm and causing a callus. Which in turn caused the shoulder pain due to the vagus nerve being bothered. The low sternal pain was from my band moving up and down causing inflammation and early signs of erosion. I was so relieved to hear that I wasn't crazy all these years! Recovery Post-op has been great. Better than with the band. I wish I had done this the first time and saved me so much trouble, pain, money and family anguish.

I'm at about the same time out as you and have lost right at 60lbs. My body does the same thing. I won't lose for a couple of weeks y then I'll drop 3-4 lbs. I've lost on average a little more than 10lbs a month. For me 10lbs a month continuously is awesome! Sent from my VS880 using the BariatricPal App

I do not have any regrets. I feel great and have from the beginning. I was walking the halls of the hospital the next day and walking on the beach just a couple of days later. I have fought my weight my entire life and for once I'm losing at a constant rate. I eat everything, just not a lot. I try to get in a good amount of Protein, but other than that I eat what I want. I was tracking my food, but just stopped because I don't want to spend the rest of my life thinking about food. I'm am trying now to listen to my body and feed it what it needs. I would never recommend anyone have the band! I know there are some who have had success, but no one that I know personally. I have felt great since my revision and wished I had looked into having it along time ago. I'm now seeing my efforts pay off. Sent from my VS880 using the BariatricPal App

I have no ambition to get Pregnant, however I do have PCOS and I can tell you that three weeks post op I had my first period in over two years. I know it's a sign of getting healthier, but I have to say I had hoped it would wait a bit longer to start up again
I would say if after a two year absence my periods started again that quickly in my amature speculation that you shouldn''t have a hard time having a baby when you're ready and after the waiting period is over. I have a three year recommended waiting period before attempting pregnancy is yours really only a year?
