Thanks Tiff! I guess my best NSV so far is when my son was gone for ten days and he came home, saw me and said, "wow! you look skinny!" That felt great!

Loving this thread! My favorite thus far is the one I posted about last week. I can no longer buy my clothes from the woman's department at Kohl's. I now can shop in the regular sizes.

My favorite one to date has got to be fitting in the booth at our favorite Mexican restaurant without having to move the table closer to my son. Plus, having lots of room between my belly and the table.
    The others:
Seeing all the bones in my feet and ankles
    Having just 1 chin
My son wrapping his arms around me and getting excited that he can clasp his hands for a "real hug".
All of my rings and bracelets being too big
Buying regular sized clothes from Old Navy
Having my dermatologist not even recognize me until she read my chart, that was an amazing feeling.

I bought a pair of size 12 slim leg jeans yesterday as an incentive but....they fit me now!!!! They arent event the stretchy type material or relaxed fit. I am sooo stoked.

Wonderful Bob! I absolutely love this thread. My shouts outs so far:

    * tossed all my size 2x - believe me, not even the Goodwill would want them.
    * fit into Liz Claiborn 16WP jeans - tossed my 22WP - see above.
    * able to go 1 hour vigorously on the treadmill and love doing it.
    * rewarded myself w/a Sansun slot radio to keep me going while exercising.
    * have more energy than I have had in years.
    * vow never to wear black again unless it is lingerie.
    * stopped caffeine, diet soda, sugar, flour, but haven't we all!

After an appointment today I stopped at Trader Joe's to pick up groceries.
One of the miracles of my surgery is that I can now do my own shopping. I had gotten so immobile pre-op that I had to have someone else buy my groceries.
Trader Joe's is so smart. They put their flowers and plants right by the front door. I bought with abandon: cut tulips, cut iris, a succulent, and a pot of hyacinths.
It occurred to me that pre-op, most of my cart would have been full of pre-packaged foods and starches. Today, it was full of flowers, fresh berries, yogurt, and other healthy, fresh whole foods.
    One of my favorite poems:

How do you feed your soul at the grocery store?

My daughter is 9 and I look forward to having the stamina to keep up with her. She is a ball of energy and as she is the only child and we are on a street with no other kiddos, she needs someone to play with. Time for this fat dad to become the fun dad !

Hi everyone! So I am starting to go through the process of talking with a patient coordinator and figuring out how I'm going to do this. I'm going to be out of pocket in Mexico. I've talked with my doc, my insurance, and a local bariatric program and doing it through insurance here is just not going to be possible.
I don't fear the travel. And I don't really fear the surgery too much (a little because I've never really ever had one so it's all new to me). But I'm afraid that I'll be unbearable. I'm afraid of it changing my attitude and making me a different person. I have no memory of being anything smaller than a size 16/18 (age 12) I don't have that memory of what it's like to not be overweight/obese. I don't know who that woman will be.
What were your fears going into your surgeries? How did you deal and get past them?

Great question !! A very good friend of mine was 460 when he had his surgery. As he lost he made sure to take his supplements, drink his Water and exercise. As he went his skin tightened up. Yes, some areas took longer but he is 20 years post opp and you would never know he had surgery unless he told you. Skin is normal and other than being a human chia pet he looks great !

Heidikat72 - seriously STOP comparing yourself to others. See how much progress you can make in 12 weeks and then keep it up
You'll drive yourself nuts if you keep comparing yourself to everyone else.
Prior to 4/1/2015 I couldn't run, walk, go upstairs, etc. without being red in the face, flush and sweaty. Now I'm walking a minimum of 10,000 steps a day and I feel great!

My insurance doesn't cover Bariatric Services either, but because my BMI is higher than normal they overrode my plan and it is covered. Check with your PCP to see if they can put in a referral to see if they will cover it. Good luck!

Will the skin of my double chin get saggy like the rest of my body? I can handle the rest of my body because I can cover it up but not my face.

My daughter is now 9 but when she was 7 my wife underwent 2 brain surgeries. I explained everything to my daughter in very simple and broad terms. She grasped exactly what was going on and then asked more detailed questions. S a resupt, she waskt afraid, knew what to expect when mommy came home. She was my little rock and i was her big rock.
We've never hidden anything from her and do not candy coat things. She is smart as a tack.
I'd explain it to the older two. Kinda explain it to the younger one. The baby.... well, they aren't going to remember a darn thing.

It's been a while since I've contributed anything to this site. Mainly because I've been on a bit of a slump the past few months and haven't really lost any weight at all. I feel like I have turned a corner and am confident that I am well and truly getting back on track.
To help with my confidence, I'm doing a little 'Throwback Thursday' and showing you a pic comparison. The pic on the left was taken at a corporate photo shoot not long before my surgery in 2014 and the pic on the right was taken this morning...
Even though I haven't lost so much weight in the last few months, the evidence of what I have lost is clear - need to remind myself of that every so often.
Have a wonderful week everybody xx

My health club opens at 5am...and I'm usually there.....3 days a week, then weekends.
After my workout, I can shower, shave, and get dressed for work right there...they also have a small restaurant - lunch counter where I can purchase a smoothie from the juice Bar for my Breakfast.
I don't think it's crazy at all, but other people say I'm nuts....
People say they would be dead on their feet for the rest of the day...but I find just the opposite to be true.
At 5am there is a large crowd doing the same, so I'm in good company.

Some would call it crazy. I get up at 4:20am every work day (an hour earlier than I have to) so I can get in a stationary bike ride and watch an episode of whatever Netflix show I happen to be obsessed with at the time. After 2 years, it's a habit and it's rare that I break it unless I'm REALLY sick.
