  1. I'm going to donate it all to the poor/church. I'm not religious at all but there are homeless people who need clothes, especially in nyc. They can have it- I am going to buy myself a whole new wardrobe! But I will wait until I reach the 50 pound mark.

    Birth control pills

My doc told me i needed to stop my oral birth control at least 2 months prior to surgery. I am 1.5 weeks post op and plan to start again Sunday (i just got my period this week). I plan on calling my docs office, but what have you heard about this. Is it ok to take the pill (its so tiny!), should I crush it up? Obviously pending what the doc says, but just curious if anyone has brought this question up to theirs. Thanks!
  3. Hey everyone! I know there was a bunch of us getting surgery tomorrow 3/28 so I figured I would post and see if we can all maybe keep this thread going. I know we will be bored in the hospital and in bed the next week or so. And it would be great to share experiences because we all know exactly what the others are going through at the exact time- unlike friends and family who try to help and support us but they just don't understand. Feel to shoot me a message as well! Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  4. It's not men in my situation it's everyone really- from family to friends. On day 3 post op my family offered me mashed potatoes and shrimp knowing I was on a liquid diet for 14 days. My roommate ordered food and had me answer the door cause she was out and it was my favorite restaurant I used to order from all the time. Then she bakes a brownie with Oreos and ice cream and snap chats pictures of it to me. I just think people are really clueless as to how hard this really is. Maybe they don't do it maliciously but it's really fricken annoying, if it's bothering you that much I would really try to explain what your going through and ask him to be more considerate. I haven't ticked off yet but I probably will soon enough if they don't stop.
  5. I've noticed also it hurts drinking really cold or really hot things. Room temperature is the only thing I can get down. Which is odd because I used to hate anything room temperature and would need everything ice cold pre op. If your drinking cold stuff that may be the reason for the pain

    Protein shakes ?

I mix vanilla Protein powder with a GNC chocolate Protein shake and coconut Water. I can only get so much down (try to make it watery) since I'm only 1 week post op but it's really good Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    hungry...

I was allowed to go to full liquids on day 3 post op. I had my op on 3/28 It's necessary to get the protein and fluids in. Not sure why he still has you on clear liquids. I think you should ask!
  8. Actually I forgot to ask- did anyone poop yet? I haven't gone to the bathroom properly since pre op. I think I'm going to need to take a laxative soon so I don't get all backed up. Anyone else having this problem? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  9. I also had mine on the 28th. I feel a lot better now than immediately post op. The first few days were rough especially the gas pain. I can't get all my protein and liquids down but it gets better every day as I try new things and figure out what works best for my body. I'm down 16 pounds from starting weight (7 from liquid diet pre op and 9 post op). What's helped me the most is constantly moving- not just laying in bed and vegetating. Getting up walking around the house walking outside, etc. I'm not ambitious or strong enough to do much more, but all in due time. I'm also a stomach sleeper and have been sleeping on my stomach/side the past 2 days. I get absolutely no sleep on my back and wake up in pain. But I need to lay on the right side not the left, because that's where the larger incisions are. Glad everyone is doing well- keep up the good work ladies and gents

    Why is everything sweet?

Hey all! Just got back from the doc. He took off the waterproof bandage feels sooooo much better! Everything looks good yay! As for liquids he said you should be drinking the recommended 64oz a day. When I said I could barely do half he said to sip slowly throughout the day like every 15 minutes and I should be able to get by. I haven't been doing this so I'm going to try. He said fluids is most important and to not worry too much about the Protein just yet but recommended I should be working my way up to at least 60g. As for the surgery taste he said its normal and to just Water things down a lot. I plan to return to work Monday and he said that's fine but to just pace myself and don't over do it. Good news is I'm down 12 pounds and counting! I'm not going to worry as much as I have been. I still have about a week of just full liquids left before I can even start mushy food so I'm thinking just one step at a time and I will eventually get there. Hope this helps! We can do it! Why is everything sweet?

I had surgery on Monday and I agree with everything here. Everything tastes so sweet it's hard to stomach the no calorie drinks. I've moved to chicken broth with flavorless Protein powder. But I was lactose intolerant before surgery so I needed to find a plant based protein which I ordered online. I have yet to get down 64 oz of fluids or 60 g of protein. I'm surprised if I have gotten half of that in the past 3 days. I'm actually sitting in my doc office waiting to talk to the surgeon and see what he says. I'm pretty sure it's normal- slow and steady wins the race in this scenario. I'm just trying to not get frustrated and listen to what my body is telling me. Eventually I'll get there but I'm not forcing in liquids at the consequence of getting nauseous or ruining my sleeve. I'll keep you posted on what the doc says!! Surgery tomorrow!?!

Shell- yes they finally let me drink but same as you it was painful. They also gave me some chicken broth and sugar free Jello but it was grosssss! Yuck hospital food. I'm probably going to be discharged by 3 or so and it is 11:20. I'm still in bed getting my morphine- now I have a headache. But they won't let me leave until I pass gas and that didn't happen yet so I'm just a sitting duck unfortunately. And I'm exhausted cause my lovely roomie talked in her sleep. Ahhhhh I'll be ok! Still Super happy with the decision despite the pain and being exhausted. Keep me posted on you as well! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    caffeine withdrawal

I gradually quit coffee first then the nicotine then the alcohol (just a social drinker) just so that I was able to focus on recovery 100%. It was roughhhhh but so totally worth it. Each took about a week to 2 weeks to ease off of. The cravings eventually go away you just need to stick to it! Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Great to hear shell! I'm right ahead of you by one day. I'm also still loaded up on morphine it will be your best friend the next couple days. Ugh and the nausea was terrible but thank goodness they have meds for that. They didn't even let me sip Water yet and it's been over a day! Jealous! Haha rest up and sleep! Glad your doing well. Vertical sleeve or bypass?

I would say go with the sleeve. Less complications, very similiar weight loss rate just slightly less, no rerouting of the insides and shorter recovery time. I'm in the hospital post op from Monday and doing fine. Already lost weight and I started at 5'4 and 240 pounds and I also had no comorbities. If your not sure I would definitely say go over options with your doc but I believe the sleeve is pretty much up there with bypass as the standard now a days. Good luck with whatever you choose! Surgery tomorrow!?!

Wow purple I couldn't even imagine! I'm still in bed. I have had an Iv with pain meds in all day, and they just gave me a vitamin Iv bag to make me stronger for tomorrow. Oxygen in my nose and my legs are wrapped in something that adds pressure and releases to circulate my blood to avoid blood clots. If your home just make sure your walking and moving around to avoid that! Glad everyone is doing well. For those that have surgery tomorrow or this week good luck! It's less painful than I thought after the fact, but at first I was thinking omg what did I do to myself because it was bad. After the pain meds started that was a fleeting thought and I am happy as a clam!

    Surgery tomorrow!?!

I'm doing great. Surgery went smoothly. In recovery now. Got some morphine to help with the pain. I click a button and it comes rolling into my Iv. My pain was really bad this morning. I think from the gas. Felt like a thousand people stabbing me in the stomach. Now it's ok. Everyone has been super nice. Hopefully will be discharged tomorrow morning/afternoon. The biggest complaint I have is serious dry mouth and not being able to drink anything. And chapped lips but they gave me gauze with Water to wet my mouth and Vaseline for my lip. food is the last thing on my mind and I haven't eaten in a week. Good luck to those in recovery as well ladies and gents. We did it! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Easter Holy Food

Omg. I can't even take the smell. I'm day 5 on the liquid diet for the op tomorrow along with having to take the magnesium citrate. I was fine until the fam started cooking. Now I'm just locked in my room but everytime I run to the bathroom I smell ham in the hallway. Lol What a nightmare! 16 hours and counting. Ugh Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
