I had an inspired moment sat on the end of my Dr's bench 6 weeks ago. So sick of being ill and depleted of energy, I asked if I would be a candidate for WLS? (No idea where the thought came from!)
So it was a whirlwind the first few weeks, tests, appointments, diagnosis, talking, thinking, dreaming, wishing, dreading, worrying, etc etc etc....
Fast forward to today, collected my Bi-Pap machine and tonight starts my new sleepy me, yipeeeeeeee!
I've also started the food plan too, with drinking my quoted Water intake.
    I'm ready. Sooooo so ready.
    Hubby is on board. (Now)
    Kids now what to expect.
    Maybe surgery by mid July......

Depending on the time of day......a cup of coffee with Splenda really helped cut out desires to snack.< /p>
Staying well hydrated was crucial. Lots and lots of Water. It simply helps me feel good....then and even more now.
Cut out sugary junk foods. That crap never satisfied my hunger, in fact it just made it come back worse in an hour.
Hard cheeses and some almonds along with some Tobasco ht sauce and I could kill hunger for hours and hours. Be careful, though.....stuff is calorie dense. By the 100 calorie bags of nuts and the single serving cubes of cheese and carefully monitor your intake.
Begin tracking your calorie intake....somewhere....somehow.....be it on myfitnesspal or simply on a note application on your cellphone. Track what you take in. Know the amounts.....OWN the amounts. Measure the amounts carefully. You can't fix what's broken if you don't closely examine it first.
Get on a treadmill or elliptical.....punch in your weight and begin exercising daily. Watch the calorie burn amount that is reported by the machine. It's not the final say so......but seeing how long and how much work it takes to burn off a candy bar will sicken you. You'll begin to think in different terms. Seeing and feeling how hard it is to burn off that crap will increase your levels of discipline IMMEDIATELY and this is crucial.
Losing weight, with or without weight loss surgery requires DISCIPLINE & EFFORT. Get to working on those right now and you'll breeze through the steps ahead of you.

I had surgery on 4/13/2016. I had to stay 2 days in Hospital BC of my nausea. I am in pain [which was expected] but not as bad as yesterday. We are about to leave hospital hopefully in the next 30 mins. I have gotten my nausea under control and hopefully it will stay under control with this 2-3 hour drive back home. I can't wait to start seeing progress!

Not sure if it's appropriate to start a new thread to just introduce myself, but I wasn't really sure where else to do that!
I just had my sleeve surgery last Friday- I'm feeling great for the most part! The first few days were rough, but I've been getting progressively better each day. I can reach my Water intake goal and I've been able to finish two premier Protein shakes (60g pro total) each day for several days.
Excited for this new chapter in life and to be more active with my wife and our two puppies! Since starting the pre-op liquid diet I've lost 30#. Hard to believe it's only really been 3 weeks!
I know there aren't too many active folks on this part of the site, but I'd love to connect and get to know you!

I got on the scale this morning, and my weight began with a "1". My weight was 319 on the morning of October 1, 2015, and I've been so looking forward to this day! I know that what the scale shows is only a part of the big picture, but the rest of the picture is positive also, and I'm so excited about the changes is my health and self-esteem. I just wanted to share this news, for me and also for those who are newly post-op, or having surgery soon. It feels amazing to say this to people who understand the little triumphs and the feeling that comes with them.

This is the handout I was given at my first appt with the dietitian... Every MD is different so this is just what my program recommends... Maybe it will help... I am prep op so I am taking the Multivitamin (Celebrate chewable Multivitamin with iron) at this time as well as Biotin (BariMelts) and Vitamin D (I was low on Vitamin D in my pre op blood work so the MD gave me prescription Vitamin D)

My advice would be no. Don't buy now.
This next bit applies mostly if you're a woman (I can't tell from your profile).
Many women who lose weight rapidly via WLS wind up completely redefining their clothing / hair / makeup / style. Someone said here once, and it so rang true for me, that when you're fat you just buy anything that fits because you're so grateful it accommodates your body mass. After you lose weight, your selection criteria become much more complicated than that.
Also, and I know you know this, Target ALWAYS has big sales. This isn't the last sale they'll ever have. Save the gift card for when you want to reward yourself for having lost 10-20-30-50-100 pounds.

Pink_Ninja reacted to SarahSleeve in Anyone ever thought:"I can do this on my own, I don't need the sugery"
Oh yeah, absolutely. Then I was put on hypertension meds, which are totally screwing with my body, and started having trouble keeping up with my kids. I have lost and gained the same 40-50lbs over the past 15 years. I was 225 at my wedding 15 years ago. I went back up over the course of the next six years, hitting my high of 300 lbs at the end of my first pregnancy back on '05. Lost back down to about 225 a couple years after my second child. Since then, I've spent 8 years yo-yoing between 245 and 270. Back and forth repeatedly. I have clothes ranging from XL - 3XL and size 14 - 22 in my closet. And they keep getting pulled out and then stored again. Over and over.
I have come to terms with it. I can't do it alone. I can lose the weight, but it always comes back. I've been fat since I was 6. I'm 36 now. If I can fix this now and live the rest of my years in a healthier body, I owe it to myself and my family.

I think it's encouraging and empowering to ourselves and our WLS sisters& brothers to show some before and afters. Everything you went through (or are about to go through) deserves a little praise. Even if you aren't at goal weight yet, (I'm not!!) share !

Pink_Ninja reacted to GibbsGirl in 3 month post op with cardiologist and surgeon
My first post op visit with my cardiologist was a success. She was more than thrilled with my progress and the whole clinic dropped in to cheer me on. My labs look great, and she didn't want to adjust my meds. She did utter a statement that was the first time in the history of the Heart Failure clinic and that was "to increase my sodium". After being on a sodium restriction for over 10 years that was quite a shocker.
My next appt was with my surgeon, everyone there was also excited. I met his expectations and he was really happy that I am not having to live like a vampire. He teased me about the increase in my sun screen bill.
I also met with my NUT or nutritionist, she was impressed I was still logging my food. I really didn't know I had a choice, it works to keep me accountable. She also let me know at this point I should not exceed 20 grams of Carbs a day. Realistically that is not a problem when Protein is first and a smaller stomach but inside I panicked a little. Just a bizarre reaction considering all I have accomplished at this point.

I'm betting that in this particular study the non-response error was negligible. The study was conducted in Israel on Israeli patients by Israeli bariatric surgeons.
I figure Mossad hauled in the ones who didn't voluntarily come in for their follow-up interviews.
