May 16th surgery buddies?.....Let's do this together!
I'm pretty scared/anxious. I've been taking a lorazepam to go to bed each night for the past 2 nights. Things I'm scared about include: the surgery itself; the recovery and potential complications, and hair loss (I have thin, fine hair to begin with and really can't afford to lose any). My surgeon doesn't require a liquid diet until 24 hours before so I a bit nervous about what Sunday is going to be like. I'm also scared about the social repercussions as I have a lot of friends that I haven't told. With all that said, I'm as ready as I'll ever be. I thought about this decision for a year before I made it and slowly started the process. And I have such bad osteoarthritis and plantar fasciitis with a lot of pain and mobility impairment (esp. now that I can't take NSAIDS before surgery or afterward for awhile). I'm so hopeful that once I lose a significant amount of weight I might actually be pain-free or at least have greatly reduced pain and greatly improved mobility. I'm also looking forward to smaller size clothes options, let's be real here. But health is my main motivator. I'm in my early-mid 40s and I without taking this step, I can't imagine what the next half of my life (one can only hope) would look like. So, I'm as ready as I'll ever be! I agree with you.....my health is my main reason. I'm 56 years old and quite frankly I think I'm having this surgery just in time! I know without a doubt that at any moment something very serious could go wrong with my health.....I can just feel it! So I think having this done now will greatly improve how my future looks......and I can't lie either.....looking better will make me feel better too!!!

After insurance aproval
That's what I was talking about too...........once my insurance approval was done.....they set the surgery date with me over the phone and I had a pre-op appoint with the surgeon .........I won't see him again until surgery on Monday.
-
smoker questions...
I know they can test for nicotine but I have no idea how long it is in your system......congrats on kicking it!!! I quit 9 years ago and have never looked back! A quick Google search can probably provide that answer for you. Good luck!!

Chicken
I say cook it in the crock pot......and for the first time have pulled chicken. season it however you like best.
-
Diet soda allowed preop? I'm on clear liquids and shakes
not allowed on mine either. I had to break the carbonation habit long before pre-op....
-
Can you change surgery date?
you should just tell your surgeon's office when you want to have surgery.....all your appointments and evals are usually good for a year......I think the final pre-op visit has to be done within 30 days but other than that you should be good.....Just let the office know when will work for you and since it's further out that will probably not be a problem at all. Nothing is ever set in stone......but you need to let them know when you're wanting to have surgery.

One week! - Kinda Terrified
My surgery is Monday....I'm just excited. So far, I'm not allowing myself t'o go to the fear side. I telling myself I weighed all those things a long time ago....and there is no reason to re-hash all that again.... so far that is working for me......and if things get too bad my surgeon gave me 10 Valium that I can take and budget between now and surgery day....So far I've saved all of them.....When I start having trouble sleeping at night I'll take one. Try to be excited, you've already done enough worrying!

OMG! The 16th is really going to get here!
I'm so excited that I feel like going "eeeeeeekkkkk" about every other breath...hahaha I'm so excited I can hardly stand it!!!.....I'm thinking sleeping though the night from here until surgery on Monday will be very difficult. My mind is reeling!!! come on Monday!!

Waiting= Stress eating
I know! waiting is the worst! Mine was only a couple of days but that was still too long as far as I was concerned......I would have gone nuts and probably cussed out a few people if mine had taken 8 days or longer. Hang in there!!!
-
After insurance aproval
none.....once my approval went through they set the date with me over the phone. Since then I had one pre-op appointment with the surgeon....my last before surgery on the 16th.

Shocking news: I'm "pre-certified" but not "approved" for insurance
My heart hurts for you.......But I'm hoping for great news at the surgeons office.
-
Incision gross pic
yes I've had this happen almost every time I have any surgery.....my theory is my body doesn't dissolve dissolvable stitches completely........The last time I was actually able to pull it out myself. You'll be fine and it will heal fine once it's gone.

@@scampbell33 There's a free app named Baritastic....it's works really well and allows you to track everything and even has a timer for post surgery for timing the wait times between eating and drinking..... If you have a fitbit you can track your food and Water using that as well. good luck!!!

Borderline qualifying BMI question.
I agree, call your insurance to get a copy of the policy so you don't have any surprises. Mine was all the weights they recorded prior to submitting to my insurance.....this included weights recorded at the 2 visits at my surgeon's office, one at nutritionist's office, and my last bariatric surgery education class....and they all had to be within the guidelines.
