    I'm freaking HUNGRYYYY! Eeerrrrgggg!

I suffered what I called hunger pains very badly in my second week after surgery. I began to suspect it was more acid than hunger when - while I couldn't feel heartburn - I began to taste a bit of acid in the back of my throat. The doctor said I could take tums. The next time I felt those "hunger pains" I took a tums and they almost instantly went away. Give that a try and see if it helps any.

Honey in Tea? Clear Liquid Phase?

I think that if your plan allows honey and you tolerate it well, then you can put it in your tea. Mine only allows sugar substitutes, so I wouldn't use honey... but then, I don't drink tea anyway! Best of luck to you in this journey we're all sharing!

    Getting approved for surgery

It's really going to depend on your insurance company and their requirements. What does your insurance require for bariatric surgery?
  4. Gotta love it when the hospital has to refund you $ because they made you pay too much for a procedure. Of course... that refund went towards the hospital stay, but so what?

Oh I'm not complaining. :) I also set up a payment plan to pay the remainder. Talk about adulting!

  5. I am so tired of this awful taste in my mouth! Ick!

    Yes or no?

Yes. It only has 1g of sugar, which is basically nothing. (my NUT approves anything less than 10g).

    Protein

Syntrax nectar Protein shake in the Cookies n Cream flavor mixed with Fairlife milk is awesome. And GENEPRO added to broth is also amazing (and can yield 30g of protein in only 4 oz of broth)

    Caffeine?

My favorite right now is to add cold brew concentrate to my Protein shake.

    When did you.....?

I was already sedated from the tap block, but i do remember they talked to me in the OR before knocking me completely out.
  10. Oh! I just realized I can have those 2 ingredient pancakes! (Egg & Banana)

      becomingmandikaye

    Crab legs

Imitation crab is made out of white fish, which is allowed on this stage. ETA: Real crab is more dense than white fish. It's the same reason I can't have salmon or mahi mahi until stage 2 of soft foods.

    Crab legs

I can't have real crab until July 13th - soft foods is broken into 2 stages for me. Stage 1 is two weeks of dark meat chicken and white fish (imitation crab counts here), and then Stage 2 is 6 weeks of all chicken, ground meat, shrimp, salmon, etc.

    Still hungry

It's likely acid. My PPI isn't doing enough, so last night I took a Tums (doc approved) and that hungry feeling went right away.

    Stages of food

Toast? Wow! Yeah everyone's is so different Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Yeah. Only a quarter piece, but toast! No regular bread though. Regular bread is too soft and doughy - that's why it has to be toasted.

    Caffeine?

I was cleared for 8 oz of caffeine per day at my 2 week follow up. But I have to be sure to get all of my fluid in if I drink it.
  18. becomingmandikaye

    Best tasting broth?

Campbell's Chicken and Stars with the chunks strained out of it.

    Not getting enough calories

Mashed potatoes with Genepro in it has helped me get my calories a few days.

    Hospital bill stress!

When they told me my share, I asked if I could do a payment plan. They assured me that once I got the bill I could call and set it up. If I were you, I'd go ahead and call them and ask.

    Stall

Walk! And then walk some more!
  22. It still baffles me that a single slice of turkey and a slice of cheese is nearly too much food.

    1. Valentina

      Valentina

I find the cheese is the culprit. A wee piece of it and it's over. I don't even have to wait until the "fat lady sings". (no more fat lady around here :) )

Am I hungry? What does hunger feel like again?

I'm in my third week, and I definitely do feel physical hunger. Which is good - it reminds me to eat something!

    First puréed food

If you're anything like me, that egg was the best egg in the history of all the eggs.

    vitamins

Flintstones Complete has iron, and my doctor and nutritionist both recommended them. They have more zinc and iron than all of the bariatric brands I checked.
