I did my surgery in Tijuana Mexico. If you want to know the info let me know. Good job quitting. Your new life is getting closer!Heeey! Thats awesome, i quit smoking 2 months ago! When I started to seriously think about going trough gastric sleeve surgery one of my really good friends told me that It could be a lower risk during the surgery if i quited smoking, so i did! Now im trying to start the diet before surgery, but i need to decide whos going to be my surgeon... Any recommendations?

My weight was also 291. Surgery was 289 and now I'm at 218. I don't know when I was this small, but it's been many years and feels great. I hope you're feeling better about your choice. I've lost 60 lbs like 5 times, and I always gain it back. I don't have enough experience at this point to say I haven't gained it back after the sleeve, but i have little doubt that I can successfully keep it off if I stick with my program and don't try and cheat the sleeve! That's awesome! I can't imagine losing 70lbs! I lost 40 a couple years ago... It took me about a year to do that... And I worked out 3-4x a week and went 2 years without cokes. I ate good... I felt better but I feel like I should've been able to lose more in that amount of time! I'm currently about 290... Sounds crazy to say cause I don't feel I should be this big. I still mentally have the body I did 10 years ago when I was in shape... After 2 kids and probably some depression I'm just not sure how I let myself get this way!

I'm 29, just had surgery 3 months ago. I'm actually looking forward to turning 30. I'm looking forward to life now that I'm feeling better, down 70 lbs. Unless you're going to be able to change your ways tonight and get on track on your own, the surgery might be your best bet.

Anything WHITE.. bread, rice, chips, Pasta, fries, etc. It's all bad. If it's white, it ain't right. Most simple carbs are slider foods for me

Wow. That is so tragic about John. I'm very sorry. Your attitude is inspiring.(1) Any new situations that you did not expect?
(2) What has worked well to maintain.
(3) What triggers have given you set backs.
(4) What keeps you motivated
(5) Now that life is normal after goal..What is new ?
Not sure how many veterans are still on the site. Anyone open to checking in?
1. I certainly did never expect to have to walk my WLS alone. Is that a "new" situation? No, but it is my main stumbling block
2. I really have to track every morsel and weigh every day. I know many folks do not weigh every day, but it's working for me, so "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", right?
3. CRUNCHY CHEETOS!! They are without a doubt , the devil's delight!
I can't have them in the house. Since they seem to be my only trigger food, I believe I'm "OK" in the trigger food department.
4. My memories of John keep me motivated. I believed in WLS sooo strongly that I left him alone the morning of my surgery. He was adamantly against my having it. He committed suicide while I was on the OR table. I have learned That I MUST complete my WLS journey. If I don't what did it all mean?? Was it all worth it??? I will stay motivated. John keeps me so.
5. Normal? Who is to say what "normal" is??? I don't believe I was ever normal--according to society's equation. I will never eat as a "normal" person eats. I will never get hungry as a "normal" person does. I will never be able to relax my social eating as a "normal" person does.
A "normal" person does not have the "obesity disease".
I am well satisfied with my thinner, healthier body. --But, I would have to add:
"Hello, my name is Valentina, and I have the Obesity Disease".

4th of July didn't go so well for me, had a few chips and guacamole and a couple bites of a pupusa. Since my vacation a week ago I haven't lost. I'm up 1 lb from when I left but hoping it'll come off. It's weird bc I'm trying to get back on track today with my routine but I feel hungrier than I did before and it scares me.

Lol you'll feel crappy on post op, but not because you're hungry lol! You'll feel crappy cause you're full after 3 sips of broth and you'll be uncomfortable.. or bc of head hunger.. like oh I want taco bell but you'll know you can't ever eat that. You'll be just fine, and definitely not hungry.I just wanted to say thank you to all of you on this thread . I too am having doubts. I am 3 days out until surgery and have felt terrible on this pre op diet . All I keep thinking about is " AM I GOING TO FEEL THIS CRAPPY ON THE POST OP DIET ?" If so for how long ? It's seriously just drained me ! I'm moody , lethargic and we'll just miserable . Probably didn't help that I waited until my Preop diet to cut out my Diet Coke . Man I Miss it !

I'm not doing really any follow up care except with my PCP, which is basically blood work and I can call him if somethings wrong, but haven't had anything yet except the blood work. This forum and the Internet helps me a lot with questions that come up, especially in the early days when you think everything is a complication
What kind of post-op care are you getting?I legit wanted to cancel my surgery right before too. I did mine in Mexico, so I had sent the deposit and I was still close to just saying forget it. I'm only 3 months out, but 70 lbs down and super happy with my choice. You will always have the choice to regain your weight you lose.. just remember it's on you, and you still will be the one in charge.. not fate!

That last sentence just sounded wrong lolThailand offered the best surgery/ surgeon/ Hospital/ price package. Plus I stayed in a Thai Hospital with my daughter after she was hit by a truck and it was amazing.

Just take it easy, stay focused and be nice to yourself... that doesn't mean with food! It's normal to feel tired at this stage

If I could have lost the weight without surgery, I would have. I def think it was my only choice. If you feel the same, you're making the right decision I think.

Are you in maintenance phase?I've been "stuck" in the same 10 lb. range for about 6 months now. Very frustrating. I've been logging, counting, changing up exercise routine, decreasing caloric intake, increasing caloric intake, doing whatever I can think of to jumpstart the weight loss again. I do take satisfaction in the fact that I have not gained and have still continued to lose inches. I will press on!!

Glad everyone is doing well. I am down 70 lbs. I went on vacation for a week and didn't do too well with alcohol and some of my food choices but I'm back on track now and I think those extra calories will actually help my weight loss as I'm returning to my regular eating this week. I am 40 lbs away from a normal bmi and 70 away from goal.. hope to hear from more of you!

My sister gave me a misfit shine for Christmas and I love it. I swim and can wear it in the Water and it counts laps, etc.Hey guys! I wanted to hop on here to ask if anyone out there has a Fitbit or something along those lines. I'm interested in purchasing one but have seen mixed reviews.
If so, what kind of device do you have and what's your experience with it? Any recommendations?

Have you gotten to your goal?
Who's goal is that? My surgeon's goal (160-170lbs) left me overweight also. I can honestly say his goal deflated me. My inner dialogue was, "I'm going to do all this sh*t and still be overweight?!". I made own goal based on a healthy BMI, height/weight charts, and healthy body fat percentages. That left me in the 130s.I was just wondering if anyone else's goal weight still leaves them in the overweight or obese range according to BMI. My goal weight is 172lbs, which would put me at a BMI of about 29.5 (still overweight). When I get there, I might decide to keep going to 155lbs, which would still leave me overweight with a BMI of 27.5. Is anyone else in the same boat? Do you think we should be aiming for "healthy" weights?

I'm so jealous of anyone sleeved by Garth Davis.. I follow him on Facebook and I wish I could call him up sometimes with questions. I've been vegetarian/sometimes pescetarian for 3 years. I was just sleeved 3/28. My experience so far has been great. I absolutely endorse a plant based diet
