  1. Walking definitely helps with the gas, I also noticed when I would take a small sip of Water I would burp which helped as well. As of this morning all my gas pain in gone. My largest incision is a lot more tender today than yesterday. And I have decided taking crushed Vitamins is really nasty, but so far I've been able to keep everything down. I also slept almost all night, with a few exceptions of having to use the restroom.

  2. @@lamulatona the changes from band to sleeve are a bit of work. First the band has to be removed along with any scar tissue, and all of that needs to heal prior to being sleeved.

If you have the band already, might I ask why you would want to change surgeries if your not having any issues with your band?

Often times the reason for switching from band to another surgery is because of complications from the initial surgery. Sometimes there are band slips, sometimes there can be esophagus dilation and sometimes there are holes in tubing or port issues. Most of these if you are compliant with your band eating mechanics can be avoided, tubing and/or ports can be replaced.

Switching from one WLS modality to another may initially help you lose weight, but if you don't change your mindset about food and your behaviors around eating no weight loss surgery tool is going to be helpful.

What I love about the band is that I am able to learn and grow with it at my pace. I am able to work on my food issues and other health issues without having to struggle to do them from day one. With the sleeve and/or bypass you are initially restricted and your going to lose weight quickly and then after a few months to a year, if your habits have not changed you will begin to regain that lost weight.

I have lost weight with my band, and even through some very serious medical issues of my own I have not gained any of the weight I lost back, and as I able to refocus on weight loss I continue to lose at a steady pace.

There is no magic bullet to losing weight. We all want it gone yesterday but we didn't gain it all in the blink of an eye and it's going to take some time and effort to change ourselves to fit into the new slimmer version of who we want to become.

I have dilated esophagus and pouch (stomach) been this way 10 months. I am having lapband removal and sleeve done same surgery. I wanted ine surgery and most insurance only covers 1.

  3. I have had my band 4 years. It is malfunctioned and must come out. I am converting to sleeve and yes you follow all the same guidelines. I didn't see why I needed to do a diet trial. Nurse practitioner agreed and has counted a visit with her as #1, went to a class last week #2. Tomorrow is #3. My final appointment is 3-22. Next step will be surgery date.

  4. UPDATE: the page is now called Spring 2016 VSGers because there were so many awesome people outside of April that I wanted to add! So send me a message & friend request on Facebook if you want to join [Alea Birbeck, same pic as here]!

I'm putting together a "secret" support group on Facebook for folks who are being sleeved the same month as me - my surgery date is April 15th. I'm not going public with the fact that I'm having surgery, so it's important to me that the group doesn't show up on my personal fb page.

I've been told by a friend who had her vsg surgery April 2013 that her similar support group has been fantastic - a group of people all going through the same thing, a safe place for questions and sharing experiences, etc. She actually added me to her "April 2013" secret group and they're a great group, I can see the appeal!

I'm looking forward to building a great network of people to go through this journey with! <3 lemme know if you're interested.

Yes, yes. Very interested. Going from band to sleeve in April. Please include me. Let me know how to connect

  5. First of all, I'm getting sleeved in 30 days! I can't even wrap my head around it yet, but I need to. I'm also undergoing therapy with a certified mental health counselor. I am a compulsive over eater and probably a food addict. I rarely eat when I'm hungry, instead I go all day without eating and binge at night after work. I start my 21 day preop liquid diet in 9 days. I've considered doing a test run day where I just do liquids, but silly as it sounds, I don't want to sacrifice a day of eating my favorite foods in the quantities I want. Because I know those days are now numbered. This has made my therapist nervous, and he thinks I might not do well postop when I cannot engage in my compulsive behavior. He also thinks that my eating and fatness is a defense mechanism or a security issue. He's worried I'll rupture my sleeve trying to eat too soon postoperatively, or too much.

Some might ask why I would consider a restrictive procedure when I'm so out of control. This is a last ditch effort to get back in control. I'm only 28, but I already have sleep apnea and GERD. I work in healthcare, I'm getting my doctorate, and I'm a smart cookie. But this addiction is killing me, and I feel that this is an extreme step that will help me do a HARD RESET on my mind and body. I need to relearn my relationship with food, and only use it for fuel for the rest of my life. I can't allow my happiness to be contingent on what and how much goes into my mouth.

Phew, now that that's done, here's my question. To those of you who identify or consider yourselves to be or have been compulsive over-eaters or food addicts...did the surgery help? I unfortunately jumped on the duodenal switch forums and read a few posts about VSG patients who stretched their sleeves and had to do the switch in order to stop absorbing nutrients to lose weight. I don't want to go to that extreme, I don't want to be dependent on Vitamins and minerals and get blood tests more frequently than annually. I just want to be normal.

What do you guys think? Sorry for the long post. Thanks in advance for the helpful comments.

I have had a band 4 years. It messed up 10 months ago and I have went back to alot of my compulsive eating. Gained 20+pounds. I have to say the band did help me. You simply cant eat alot and as soon as the weight starts coming off, you just want to keep goung because you realize how much better you feel. This is why I am so excited to get my sleeve in April

  6. It was a huge Mystery for me too… And the only thing we could probably figure out was the fact that I started training in my sport and was working out very hard and my body may have just assimilated it. But back on track had one Fill and suddenly my body is back to where it was when I first got the surgery. Because I'm building lean muscle the weight-loss is slower but I'm losing inches and am at my pre-accident weight from a year ago when I crushed my arm. Have faith this was probably the best thing ever to happen and you may not have a leak it may just been your body absorbing it and you're getting a second chance to start all over

    So glad it worked out

  8. I have Aetna and am in the process. I have my 3rd check-in next week(2 months on a nut program). I asked my surgeons office about the exercise and they said the nutritionist will document it. I have to admit I ate a lot before my first visit so I would have some leeway when I had to lose weight. I lost 2 or 3 lbs. the first check-in. In the past couple of weeks I have buckled down and gotten serious with tracking, exercise, Water, etc. but I retain Water sooooo easily. Even in the past, losing weight with weight watchers, I would be so on the program and would bounce up and down. I went to the Vitamin Shoppe and bought some sample Protein packet for Protein shakes. Dependent on what my scale looks like on Tuesday and weds, I may start them and cut down on the food/ carbs for my Thursday nut check-in. I hate playing this game and it causes so much stress.

I have used powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury products alot over my 4 years with a band. The vanilla is great with something orange like orange tangerine mio

  9. Hi kimkw,

I did not have to do a diet trial? Only 2 week liquid pre-op diet (which is pretty awful...because dang, it is HARD). How long do you have to do this diet trial?

I only had to show 6 month weight loss attempt (unsupervised, but some have to show supervised attempt).

That is what is making me crazy. How is having a band not show that I committed to weight loss
