  1. So glad you WLS vets chimed in! How inspiring you are.
  2. @ Yes I do - thank you. Sometimes we just need to be reminded.
  3. Wil ldefinitely check it out- thanks for sharing.
  4. I haven't had my surgery but I have seen many posts like this. You're going to do just fine. Deep breaths! Your hormones are all out of whack right now. And you can remind me when I'm 7 days post op! Teena
  5. I haven't lost any weight but I do take transit- on days when I don't, if I do nothing else my Fitbit registers about 4000 steps. On days that I do, it registers about 6000. But you are absolutely right- it depends on where you live. And living in the country usually brings other types of physical activity- or it can anyway.
  6. I am not sure if I've ever been able to! At least not comfortably.
  7. I've heard other people say that it affected their marriage negatively, but in all honesty, I can't see how it would for us. @@BestDayEver I have to do what you did. I know this is right for me and for my health, and I'm sure that he will love having a healthier thinner wife. He will just have to deal with his own issues.
  8. I found this study - it's slightly higher for RNY patients but not a whole lot. Good luck! I hope you have a speedy recovery.
  9. I don't know where @@Snowbutterfly is, but since you mentioned public health care, I know that we have it here too - I'm in Ontario- and they really don't encourage the sleeve sadly. There are cases where they will do it, but it's seen as "the lesser choice" and they will regularly tell you that RNY is the gold standard. As everyone has said- this is a decision only you can make. I'm 43 and have managed to lose weight many times. I am usually only off a diet long enough to gain back most or all of what I've lost. Sadly it never takes long. I really like what @@JamieLogical said about viewing the surgery as weight loss maintenance. I've been thinking about weightloss surgery for at least 15 years, and wish I had done it much sooner. On a side note- I had thought that I would prefer the sleeve, but since I've been dealing with heartburn most of my life and possibly GERD - just never diagnosed- it looks like it will be RNY for me.
  10. I am getting one very soon! So excited about it, can't wait to try it.
  11. My spouse doesn't want me to have surgery- I can't say that he isn't supportive, but he doesn't understand at all and he's seen me lose weight so he knows I can. He doesn't realize how hard it is for me every time I gain it back. He is 5'10" and weighs 165 post vacation. He's never had a weight problem. So he keeps telling me I can lose weight without the surgery. I already have a job outside the home and am not lacking in confidence for the most part but I really do worry about how he will be after I lose all the weight- I've never been "skinny". When we got married I weighed 210 lbs, and now I'm 280 lbs... I've managed to get down to 220 lbs a couple of times, but never been able to keep it off. I think the reason he doesn't want me to have surgery is that he's worried about the safety of it.... I'm hoping he will come with me to some of my appointments. My friends and family on the other hand have been completely supportive. I have 3 very close friends who are totally supportive, and several other close friends that are also very supportive. My parents and sister have all volunteered to come with me to the appointments, and my mom said she would help out after the surgery. I guess I just worry about the impact that the surgery will have on our relationship. I'm hoping it will be better, but I don't know. I'm definitely going through with it no matter what though.
  12. Wow that sounds great! I will have to look for it after my surgery. I wonder if it's available in Canada. I could order it to my SILs house in PA and get her to bring it up for me the next time they visit.
  13. @@lifeofblair, @@SamBwaR3 is right! What a bi***!!!! It's not as if weight loss after surgery doesn't require work. Probably the same type of person that would tell you NOT to have surgery because of the people who gain their weight back. @@Essence46 I did notice that you are close to goal, so maybe you're slowing down because of that too... Are you tracking carbs as well? I'm no expert as I haven't even had surgery yet- but i have lost weight a few times (I'm really really good at gaining it back!) so please take whatever I say with a grain of salt. I have done a little research on macros, so in addition to getting Protein in, make sure you're getting healthy fats, and not too many carbs. Good luck! How long is the challenge? My money is on you!
  14. @@tiggerlillie I am also in Ontario.... I have my orientation at TWH on April 18th. I'm so anxious to get the process moving. I know how quickly a year goes by but I really just can't wait to be having my surgery.
  15. I'm east of Toronto. My mom used to live in Sarnia Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  17. Congratulations! My surgery is 6-12 months away. I'm in Canada so our process is longer. My husband is against it too but I'm getting it no matter what. I've been thinking about it for 12 years. Time to just do it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  18. You've done so well. Congrats!
  19. I'm in Ontario and while I do love our health care , wait times can be a big drawback. I'd be so happy if mine was in 6 months but most people do have to wait a year or even longer. On the upside the surgery is 100 percent covered. Some other provinces have a waiting period of 2-3 years. Ontario is definitely one of the better ones.
  20. Congratulations! Can I ask how much was pre-op and how much was post-op?
  21. I think you were wise to postpone it. I had very little cramping and it was the BEST thing ever. I'm on my 2nd one- but I've also had 3 children. 2 of my co-workers recently had it inserted. One was in a lot of pain for about 3 days and the other also had pain but not for as long. The first girl hasn't had any children and the 2nd had 1 over 20 years ago. I think that makes a huge difference. In addition to not having to worry about birth control, I barely have to worry about my period as it's very very light.
  22. So glad that it moves so quickly for you guys.... Mine will be anywhere from 6 months to a year from when I have my orientation on April 18th. I'm trying to be patient but it's not really working for me lol. On another note though- I called the bariatric centre to see if I could get in any sooner for my orientation, and they said there's nothing until June now- so glad mine is April.

  24. Good luck with the approval. From what I've read from others you will be more sue of your goal weight when you get there. And you will get there.
