Where are all the Canadians ?

Good luck! It is usually bypass but you can request the sleeve. If you're with TWh you will more than likely get it but do your research - Bypass is the gold standard of weight loss surgery. If you do end up at Toronto Western, be sure to call regularly for cancellations- it will significantly reduce your wait times. I have 2 friends still waiting for surgery- I had mine on January 9th.

    Slow weight loss

I would say that's definitely the cause of your pain. You should talk to your doctor asap about it. I use Miralax every other day, and that keeps things moving. Plus, you may have heard jokes about a squatty potty- but google it and see the youtube video. I didn't buy the brand name one, but I did get a couple little folding stools that I keep in each bathroom and it really helps. Be careful.... people get tears and hemorrhoids after weight-loss surgery from being constipated.

    Slow weight loss

There are a lot of factors that can affect your weight loss- including your weight prior to surgery. 46 lbs is pretty good in my opinion- have you ever lost 46 lbs in 4 months? Plus you have a tool that will help you to keep it off. Good luck!
  4. As an fyi www.obesityhelp.com has an Ontario forum. There is a lot more info over there.
  5. Hello, sure. I finished all my appointments at Toronto Western in September and was disappointed to not get an appointment with the surgeon until November 25th. Then to top it all off, my appointment was cancelled. For some unknown reason TWH cancelled all surgeon appointments for the last 5-6 weeks of the year. I was rescheduled to Jan 6 and had thought that it would be March or April before I have surgery. Fortunately TWH started working with Guelph to clear their backlog. I had my file transferred to Guelph, and saw Dr. Pereira-Hong on Dec 20. I'm scheduled for surgery on Jan 12, 2017. Sorry for the long update.

    January surgery

I'm expecting a January date but will find out on Tuesday.
  7. I'm in Canada, so our process is a bit different and usually longer. I was referred for WLS in Feb by my family doctor, and attended the orientation on April 18th. I have now completed all the prerequisite appointments and have been cleared for surgery. Looking forward to getting a date to meet the surgeon and then to finally have my surgery date!

    Any Long-Timers here

It seems to me that we hear less from vets. I think you guys are all busy just living your lives which is awesome. When we are in the pre-op and losing stage we need the support. I'm always glad when long term vets post. I am fortunate to have a friend who had an RNY 18 years ago and she does great. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Where are all the Canadians ?

As far as I know they don't weigh you. I've had 2 of my 4 appointments and was only weighed at the first one. I also had my nutrition class today. Next appointment is Aug 24 and the last appt before meeting the surgeon is Sept 21.
  19. I live in Ontario so RNY is covered by our provincial health care. The process varies depending on which hospital you choose. I was referred by my family doctor in February, and had orientation in April. At that appointment, they gave me the dates for the social worker and the nurse practitioner as well as a nutrition class. Last Wednesday I met with the NP and it went so well. At the end of that appointment she told me that I only needed the psychologist and dietitian appointments and then I could meet the surgeon. She also told me I would get those appointments when I came in for the nutrition class on September 6. I told her I had hoped I would have those appointments sooner than that. Anyway, she said she would see what she could do. On Thursday morning, the clinic called me to say they had moved up the nutrition class to July 25!! Dietition is August 24 and psychologist will be September 21. I'm so excited. Some people wait 18 months or longer for their surgery. It will still be close to a year, but this saved me about 2 months for sure.

The straw that broke the camel's back

I can't say there was 1 defining moment. I started thinking about surgery in 2004 when I was pregnant with my 3rd child but dismissed it. In 2009 and again in 2013 I was able to lose 60 lbs - and regain. As I was contemplating how much weight I had gained in January of this year,my mind went back to surgery. I know i can stick to an eating plan for at least 9 months without surgery so I'm sure I will be able to do this with surgery. My children have been so supportive of this. I am 43 and I don't have any health issues although at my last check up my blood sugar was elevated and my doctor told me it's really just a matter of time before I develop diabetes. So I realized that this is not how I want my story to go. I'm in Ontario so it will probably be a year before I have the surgery but I can't wait.

    Happy today---

Congratulations! My husand and I had our 20th in April. We haven't done a whole lot to celebrate yet. i have a while to go before I have my surgery. I'm in Ontario, and it usually takes 12-18 months from the date we're referred but I am so encouraged by reading other success stories. I was referred 4 months ago, so I'm getting there. Your success is an inspriation! Keep up the great work.

So for those of you that have had the surgery in your 40s - what's the scoop on the extra skin? Is it really bad? I hope to lose 140-150 lbs. I'm 291 now. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
