  1. My surgeon told me that it makes no difference, on weight loss, if it's a revision or first time surgery. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  2. It really, does, depend on the insurance. Mine is UHC and I didn't have to do any of the typical requirements. However, my band has failed in the sense that with ANY fill, it causes reflux so severe that I wake up at night choking and unable to breathe so mine was presented as a medical necessity. With that being said, my policy only allows for one bariatric procedure per lifetime. My band was placed when we had a different insurance company though. As far as turn around time, my approval came less than two weeks after submission. They wanted to schedule surgery sooner than I did, but my kids will be on Spring Break so I opted for March 29. Best of luck to you!!

    Paperwork submitted to Insurance!

I know it's different with every company, but mine was a piece of cake! No hoops to jump through and has approval less than 2 weeks after submission.

    Paperwork submitted to Insurance!

    Yay!!!! Good luck!!
  5. To be honest I am surprised that bands are still being fitted, despite the huge number of people requiring revision surgery. I think that more people are researching and going for sleeve and bypass but how long will it be until bands are phased out? The surgeon that, originally, dos my band doesn't do them anymore. That was in Chicago. We live in Orlando, now, and the surgeon that is doing my revision no longer does bands either. He, essentially, told me that they're crap. I would have to agree lol!
  6. I am happy to answer anything I can for you! With me, it got yo where I ended up in the er because I wasn't even able to keep liquids down. I got completely unfilled for a couple months and, with my first small refill, was right back where I was when I visited the ER. They sent me for an upper GI. One doc said it had slipped, the other (my current surgeon) said he didn't see a slip but if was definitely messed up and needed removal. I had a constant dull burn even when I took my Prilosec.
  7. Hi there! Your story is, almost, identical to mine! I was banded in 08, list about the same amount of weight, had the same issues, etc. My surgeon said the band is, basically, garbage and needed to come our. He also said that without something, I was sure to gain all of my weight back. I am scheduled for a revision to bypass on the 29th. I have UHC and no issues at all! Once submitted, it was approved in a little over one week. I am THRILLED!!! I hope yours goes just as smoothly.

    SURGERY DATE!

I got my surgery date! It will be March 29. I'd like to know how you all felt right after surgery. Were you in a lot of pain? Nauseous? Diarrhea? Mine will be done laparoscopically and with the DaVinci. My doctor says only one day in the hospital.

  11. I had my lap band placed in 2008 and did really well, with it, until last November. I ended up in the er unable to keep anything down and waking up choking with reflux. Band was unfilled and, turns out, has slipped. I got my insurance approval, for revision, on Thursday and will be getting my surgery date on Monday! I'm so excited and scared! What advice can you guys give me???

    Band to Bypass Approved!

Thanks, so much, everyone!! I have a MAJOR sweet tooth which is one reason I chose bypass. I believe that the fear of dumping will be enough to keep me from sweets. Is it ANY amount of sugar that can cause dumping?
