  1. Poor thing! It will get better. And there are harder days too, but at some point around 10-14 days out it starts to get a bit more even-keel. And hey! Water weight or fat weight- a loss is a loss! Way to go!!!!
  2. Glad to hear you're feeling better! I'm kind of the opposite- having just started into the purée and soft food stage, after weeks prior to and after surgery, it is like I'm Rediscovering tastes. Today had tuna mixed with cottage cheese awesome seasonings and 1 tbl of scalloped potatoes. Blended most of the chunks out, heated it and it was like having a tuna melt! At dinner I had some homemade pulled pork ( no bbq sauce) with cottage cheese and frozen spinach and more seasonings. Mixed, blended, heated- yum! Try and get creative. I'm allowed 1/2 c food per meal. That is 8 tablespoons. Add different things to it to make something that explodes in your mouth! Good luck!
  3. Hope your surgery was smooth sailing! The gas pain is the worst of it- walk walk walk! Check in when you feel better!
  4. Oh goodness! You should have seen my post from This past Saturday when I went nutsoid on my oldest son because he didn't throw some papers out I told him to- and he is 18! Poor kid! I didn't recognize myself. So the gist is- hormones are stored in fat cells. Lose weight fast- release a crap-ton of hormones into your bloodstream - instant raving lunatic! Lol it passes. Good luck!
  5. Hi meimei. I'm in the same boat as you with the RA. There was research done that shows Bariatric surgery has a positive effect on people with RA. I was diagnosed 9 years ago- right after I turned 40. Went through every drug they had. Finally got some relief from Actemra. Get infused with that in addition to my methotrexate shots weekly along with plaquenil. My weight gain was mostly due to being on 60-80 mg daily of prednisone for 6 years. The worst best drug out there. It was the only thing that allowed me any mobility while trying to find something that helped me. I even ended up allergic to Orencia! That was lovely lol. So between lack of movement and the pred- boom! Obese. Funny thing- I was completely flaring prior to surgery and assumed it would be more of the same after. Not! I've been hitting anywhere from 3-5 miles walking a day. Who knew? I'm not allowed to resume methotrexate or Actemra until 30 days out. Kind of wondering if I will? I suppose the best bet is to have some blood work done to check disease activity level. I don't want to go two steps back, but heck- the thought of no RA meds is certainly appealing!!!!
  6. Awesome! I'll forward the info tomorrow!
  7. Park ridge. But we can move around[emoji4]
  8. I'm 2 weeks post op now and moved to purée foods. Let me tell you all- keep plugging with the full liquids- clear liquids until it is time. You will SO APPRECIATE the added flavors! It's like learning foods again! I've spent the day getting very creative with my 1/2 allowance of foods and it's been fun. But stick to it- your new tummy will thank you. Good luck! Btw. My schedule was day 1-5 clear liquids AND protein shakes. Day 6-14 full liquids. 15-30 purée and very soft foods.
  9. Jesus Mary and Joseph Wicked- how amazing!!!! I can't even tell you were the same person. Congrats on all Of your hard work!!! Just thought of this- never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would say "Jesus Mary and Joseph " and wicked in the same breath
  10. I just walked off more than my daily caloric allowance! Does that mean I get to eat double? Oh wait. That was my OLD self talking! Calories in--- more calories out---->>>. Weight Loss!!!!
  11. I am the main cook in the house and I think maybe that may be the case, but I cook a lot before surgery and froze a lot of food for him and our kids on top of that he can cook and has done is more than once. I think it was really just a miss understanding and he just didn't think. Lol. Then he's just a typical guy While I was in the hospital and immediately after two things happened- my 15yo daughter went to France for spring break with her French club and my 18 yo had his wisdom teeth out. My hubby was in charge of getting them where they needed to be. My daughter- he dropped off at the airport to her group and immediately left. My son he took to the oral surgeon, checked him in at the desk and left to run errands saying see you in a bit. As a mom, I'd have seen her pass through security and then leave and waited for them to take my son back before I sat down with a magazine in the waiting room. They have different brain connections these husbands!!!
  12. SW 248 GW 230 Checking in
  13. Not that you need another take on this but- being 5 days post op perhaps if you were the main "cook" in the family this is just his way of getting a meal? I agree that you have a hard time watching it- totally get it. Pre op I would make dinner for my family, put it on the table and go for a walk while they ate if I was having a hard time. Basically I'd just say " I can't be around the food- see you in a few".
  14. Once on full liquids - per my. NUT- I was able to add puddings, yogurt and hot cereals. I mix 1/4 c of Greek yogurt with 1/4 c of cream of wheat cereal. This combo really seems to do the trick. As an aside, I left the " regular' Cream of Wheat and moved to the baby wheat cereal. It's much easier to make a small batch with and a smoother consistency.
  15. Does your doc want you on your Vitamins yet? If so are you taking them? As for a home health aide- go for it! Personally I gave birth to three who are now teens and took care of me lol.
  16. Am I too late to join? If not count me in! And thank you!!! Is my GW what I hope to lose by Memorial Day or actual GW post surgery?
  17. Congrats! When was it?
  18. My protein is going down faster when I double the scoop to the same amount of liquid, or, I add one scoop of a flavored protein and one scoop of unflavored. Only gets a bit thicker but by volume of liquid it's the same but way more protein. My am shake totals 48 g ( I use water) and I get the additional in with yogurt. My buddy here adds protein powder to her yogurt!
  19. Welcome!!! Hope you are able to get and give lots of helpful information!
  20. I'm finding that 12 days out I am able to keep everything down. I have zero issues with drinking. I mean zero. I can finish a cup of tea in the same amount of time as pre surgery. I'm not really feeling much by way of restriction at this point. The first week I did. This truly scares me. I've tried foods on the soft stage I shouldn't be able to eat yet without issue. ( just a couple of times[emoji4]) Found that if I chewed the heck out of it it went down, stayed down and no issues. Many of us have gone into surgery thinking "what of THIS doesn't work?". My ability to eat and drink so well so soon almost reaffirms that preop fear. I guess the best I can do for now is keep to my liquids, protein and serving sizes along with exercise. Time will tell.
  21. Nope! Lol. There were three dental schools in Chicago way back then- I went to Northwestern University the went to University of Illinois about 5 years ahead of me! I did hugely apologize to him. He accepted, hugged me and said its ok. What a kid. I'm going to miss the heck out of him next fall. All of him but the anal retentive part lmao. Thanks for the words of encouragement too!!!
  22. My docs said drink up to the meal but wait 30 min til after. Pretty much as stated above. They told me it was de rig our previously for the 30 min on each side but has since been revised. And they are crazy strict with protocol.
  23. Sandy- I make "bone soup". Crazy name, but the idea is that you very slowly cook the crap out of bones lol. Seriously for like a day or two. Extracts anything and everything from the bones. So you can do chicken, beef. Anything with a bone. You use quite a few of them. It turns out extremely dense with taste. Tons of minerals and nutrients from the marrow. Search bone soup or bone broth. Good luck. As an aside- I didn't prep too much for myself- some broths/ mushroom soup. I did, however, cook an army's worth of meals for my hubby and three teens. Stock piled the freezer with almost a months worth. This was I could pop something into the oven without the need to actually cook. Or they could if I wasn't feeling well.
  24. Holy cow!! A few years ago my hubby ordered a pressure cooker. I was completely against it. I'd had a previous patient who experienced burns on over 80 % of his face and on his arms from one. Fast forward to today- couldn't live without it!. Ours is electric, no worries of explosions and the meals I can make for a family on the run are amazing and so fast and good! Can literally toss frozen chicken breasts, Beans, rice and extra veggies, seasoning and some broth in for thirty minutes and have a magnificent meal. And the pulled pork from it- wow! Put it in a bowl with some of the "juice-liquid" and use a hand mixer to "pull" it. Takes all of four minutes.
  25. Wow Jenn. Isn't it amazing how different our tastes are??? I wish you luck!!! ( and total bummer you didn't like the strawberry shortcake! Lol
