Emotional wreck...need to vent...
I'm AWESOME!!!! Tomorrow is my 6 week date!!! I'm down 30 lbs so far but MORE importantly, I feel great!!! Had bypass surgery. Best decision I've ever made. I'd been on high-high doses daily of prednisone for years! Talk about a moon face and apple belly! Lol. My surgery was at Evanston Hospital in the North suburban Chicago area. Love my surgeon and support staff. No problems at all either. Working out 5-6 times a week, walking daily, personal trainer 2 x a week. And I'm cleared to progress to a general diet (1/2 c food per meal) as tolerated. And yes!!!! Go Hawks!!!! I miss them so much already!!!

Emotional wreck...need to vent...
You go girl!!! I had to post pis mine by a couple of weeks because I was scheduled to take a road trip a week post op and my surgeon said NO WAY. Looking back- even though I was recovering well one week post op I would have been miserable!!! I was driving from Chicago to Texas! Lol. Not a short trip by any means. Doc put it off til the week after I got back. I had already completed all but five days of my preop. He gave me the "green light" to enjoy my trip- food and all- and just do 5 days more when I got back. But I DID postpone mine- had $500 in hockey tickets and hotel rooms prepaid on my own dime. ( we went to St. Louis and then Dallas in 4 days to see my beloved Blackhawks play!!!! THAT I wasn't giving up!!!). A family gathering- that I'd give up for surgery any day. People who want privacy - what is or was your cover story?
Gall bladder surgery works! Same incisions, and after, all you have to do is say your stomach can't seem to tolerate most foods these days and if you eat too much you get sick. Voila!

Whats Possible? 43 y/o, F, 5'6 280lbs, medium build
And do NOT expect it to "fall" off. For some it does, for others, like me, I see a jump in the numbers. I'll stay at one number sometimes for a week and then boom down 5-6 pounds. Bypass- 3/23. HW - 272. SW-262. Current - 233. That's 29 lbs in 6 weeks.

Day 8 of pre op liquids
Call your docs office. Mine, who is VERY strict- crazy so compared to what I've read here, allowed for raw non starchy veggies plain. Helps a ton!

Coffee
Valentina! Genius idea!!! That will hit the spot. I actually avoid my chocolate shakes- too heavy!- but this is a great way to use them! Thank you! It's like November here right now- damp and cold.

Just got cleared for soft foods today
You really do want more moisture in that lol. Consider adding cottage cheese and a teaspoon of mayo. So maybe 1/4 c tuna, 2 tbls egg, 2 tbls cottage cheese and a dollop of mayo to mix it up. And for goodness sakes- if you can, go ahead and add seasonings!!!

Coffee
Didn't they give you a handbook? I was given a huge binder just for dietary needs, how to introduce new foods, when, what is or isn't allowed, and spreadsheets of typical Bariatric foods, nutritional values, amount to be consumed and on and on. It literally is my bible. As for coffee- we are allowed a cup of real coffee daily after 6 weeks.

Very excited for my new life!
That baby is the PERFECT reason to do this! Good on you!!! So adorable!

STUCK
Are you sleeve or bypass? I may be wrong here- but shouldn't we be keeping to 1/2 cup of food per meal? I'm bypass, maybe that is why? I'm 6 weeks out as well and can't eat more than that physically. I'm so scared of stretching that little pouch! Lol

I found my cheekbones! Pics
It's like "BAM". There it is! Lol. I used to walk past mirrors and store fronts and not know who the reflection was because my face was so distorted. I'm sure many of you have had that horrid experience where you don't recognize yourself. And with this blessing of surgery and the tool it gives us, we get to actually "see" ourselves again! Not to mention all of the wonderful things about ourselves that aren't visible!!!

Puréed food recipe or the best puréed food?
Wait on tuna until you hit soft foods or you can grind it up. Also the chunk canned chicken is good. Mix them with a little cottage cheese and add seasonings to taste. Purée does not have to be bland unless you can't tolerate it. I'm a spice nut and have tons of small packets from spice stores of different blends. Makes the same dish taste different. Lol. You can purée anything really as long as you add moisture to it. Dry foods are harder to get down. So things like broth, cottage cheese, yogurt, etc go a long way to helping your cause. And be careful- things like refried Beans are wonderful but if you also have another "dry" item it may be too heavy on your new tummy. Also- one of my favorites was taking 1/4 C tuna or chicken, 2 tbl cooked spinach, 2 tbl cottage cheese and a tbl of mayo, blending it and warming it. Kind of like a tuna melt!

Tell me about your progression of foods...

I found my cheekbones! Pics
Ok, it's 2:30 am, just got back in from a great night seeing people I have not been with in 3+ years. But wanted to say today I found my cheekbones! I'm 6 weeks post op bypass. First pic take a couple years ago when I last saw this group This pic I just now took. Sorry for the bags under my eyes. It's late! So this is what My 50 year old face looks like!?!? I see a mini face lift in my future! Lol

I was 3/23/16. Do you recall when you tried the cucumber?

Tell me about your progression of foods...
Now that I'm six weeks post op bypass, I've been given the go-ahead to progress onto different foods at my own pace. I'm CRAVING salads and raw veggies, but scared to death to try them! How some people look at cakes and pastries with food envy is how I feel about a simple tossed salad or a stalk of celery! NUT said to move from soft, cooked to a little crunch to raw as tolerated. What were your experiences? I realize there are some I won't be able to tolerate, but bring on your stories!
