    I am 46 years old, 210 lbs, 5'7" and I shared my upcoming surgery with one friend who felt like she needed to talk me out of it because I have lost weight so many times before (and gained it all back and then some each time) and I'm "not that big" and she didn't think I should go through that kind of pain to loose weight. Now I am a little less excited about it, but more determined than ever to have this surgery - the date is set for December 27th. I just don't know how to explain the health benefits of this surgery to other people, and after that experience with my well meaning but overbearing friend (did I mention she is thin?), I have just stopped sharing with anyone other than the two people closest to me: my husband and mother support my decision. My pre op diet starts on the 13th and I am ready for this. My only small concern is follow up because I am having the surgery in Mexico - far away from my home in New Hampshire. I will follow the pre and post op diet completely. I am now cutting back on caffeine. Did I mention that I am ready for this? I am looking forward to the positive life changes in my future. :-)

      Here is the thing: you don't have to explain anything to anyone. Ever. This surgery is a personal decision, and no justification is needed. Move on with your decision and embrace the changes that will occur. Naysayers be damned.

    I just booked a trip tonight to the South of France in July for my daughter and I...her birthdays present, my present to me for hitting goal. We both win on this one, and I finally get to travel to France with someone who actually speaks the language! Most important is the mom-daughter time before she leaves for college the next year.

      I KNOW, right? The Festival in Avignon!!! And is there anything better than Provence???? Ahhh well, there is always the lungomare in my family city of Bari...lol. But that trip is reserved for son#2.

    My boss and co-worker both made comment about my ass yesterday. Another co-worker made a comment about my ass today. All three of these people are females. Not that I care but it is kind of nice to have a female that isn't my wife check out my ass for once!

      Thanks darlin', I plan on avoiding croissant ( though my daughter will literally LIVE on them) and instead focus my energy running through hills and fields of lavender! Nothing compares to the sight and smell of Provence in full bloom!!!!

      @ShelterDog64 ... This will be HER third time, AND she's going again the following Spring...she is a Francophile lol. The nice thing is this time it is ME who is going along, not her and her friends lol. I usually just foot the bill and get lots of lavender from Provence as a thank you gift...

    Despite taking biotin and B-12 since June of 2015, it has finally happened to me! 10 months post op and I am seeing hair breakage around my temples and frontal scalp. Isn't this a bit late for hair breakage? I was expecting it around 3 to 6 months not 10 months post op. Veterans, how long did it take for you to go through this phase before hair started to grow back?

      Heck. I TNOUGHT mine was slowing til I washed my hair today. Damn. Worse one yet. But. I can also see new stuff growing in. Odd phenomenon isn't it? I'm two days before my month mark...

      Perhaps it is because I'm still losing weight rapidly, but I have zero interest in trying to slow it down.

      Thanks guys!!! Such a journey isn't it?? A year ago I was prepping for my first visit... @Babbs 8 lbs which is 140-- but now thinking it may be possible to get where I "lived" most of my pre-gain life which falls somewhere around 128. I've been as low as 120 and frankly look sickly that low.

    I missed it yesterday, but yesterday was my 15 months post-op date. :) I've lost 200 pounds since surgery and 263 overall. Still baffles me!
