I am so excited! I am on day 13 of my clear liquid, Protein shake pre-op diet so I understand what you new pre-opers are going through. Here are a few things that has helped me - if you can have sugar free popsicles try putting an orange one in your vanilla shake (or any flavor popsicle), put a little Decaf instant coffee in shakes it helps cut down on sweetness as well as changes the flavor and of course the sugar free syrups. I have caramel and I combine a chocolate shake with a few squirts of caramel and a little instant coffee and its just like Starbucks...not really but it's something different! I also got an ice tea maker so I can put decaf tea in it and add stevia if I want it a little sweet and mint if I'm feeling real crazy. I got tired of the taste of sweeteners. Also, congrats to all that are on the losers bench already! Its so inspiring to hear how well everyone is doing! Keep letting us know what works for you and how you're doing! I'm praying and thinking about all of you!!! I have surgery this Monday, Feb 8th so if you could do the same for me I would appreciate it!

I'm Feb 8, too! I go in at 5am, and I'm the second case for that morning. It's okay to be scared-it's completely normal ????. You are getting ready for the final part of this journey. Your new life and the road to a healthier you is about to begin!! I can just guess all the thoughts going through your mind--because my mind is like those super 6-lane highways where everyone is trying to merge and all the traffic is driving 75-100mph ????. Nerve racking and crowded to say the least. And, on the flip side, there is probably a part of you that is excited, has a little "rush" of adrenalin, and is ready to just go ahead and get on that highway. As so many have said, you're not alone, ever. Reach out no matter what, and someone will be ready to respond. I've met/read several others in these forums that are Feb 8, and all the other dates of Feb too. We are going to be fine. Slow and steady wins the race! I wish you only the best! When you wake up, your new life awaits ????

    1. Can you also have Protein Shakes, sugar free Jello and sugar free Popsicle on your plan? I found that the variety of those things helped. I also tried a lot of different Protein shakes and that kept things interesting. Just remember this phase does not last forever so you can make it through.
    2. The purée soups depends on your plan. Pre op I was only allowed protein shakes, broth, SF jello and SF Popsicles. Post op I was allowed puréed soups
    3. For the first approx. three months I found it hard enough just to get all my protein and Water in for the day. food didn't taste very good in the beginning for me and I didn't want any snacks, I just ate when I was hungry. We are all different. Just listen to your body, stick to your plan, and when you do eat snacks make sure they are healthy snacks and you will do fine.
    4. Wish I could remember how long mine took to heal. I did go on a beach vacation at five weeks post op and they were completely healed by then.
    5. After surgery my tasted changed drastically. I didn't have any cravings for about the first nine months. Now when I have cravings its for sweet things- pre op I loved chips bread and Pasta, now I have no cravings for those things. Now that I am at maintenance if I have a craving for something sweet I eat it and just get right back on my high protein low carb way of eating.
    6. Going out to eat has always been easy for me. I just make sure to pick high protein food. Almost all restaurants have something you can pick from. Nowadays I usually just split a meal with my husband or get an appetizer. Makes eating out cheaper. For instance today I was out running errands and shopping and went through chick fil a and got the grilled chicken nuggets.
    Good luck on your surgery!!

    1. I didn't have a pre op diet so I just had broth after I first got home and it wasn't just broth but broth, sugar free Jello, Protein shakes, v8 juice, Water...and I had no desire to eat so it wasn't miserable.
    2. That will depend on your doc and his/her instructions.
    3. I'm 3 months out and I don't snack. Snacking can lead to grazing and grazing to weight gain, so I just stick to my plan. I'm never hungry so the desire to snack has gone away which really helps.
    4. My scars were all closed on the outside within 9-10 days except for my drain hole. That one took about 2wks to close. My scars are really tiny, but will probably remain dark purple for about a year then fade to a pink and hopefully disappear in the stretch marks like my gall bladder surgery scars did.
    5. I don't have cravings...so that changed, but my taste buds completely changed. Before surgery cherry anything made me gag and throw up. Since surgery it's my favorite flavor! I also find that chocolate tastes like dirt...it did when I was pregnant too, but now it's all the time so I had to ditch all my chocolate Protein Shakes because of the taste.
    6. It depends on where you go. I love sushi and sashimi so when we go out for like Chinese food, we'll go someplace that does Asian fusion and has sashimi. I'll have a couple pieces of that and maybe half of a crab Rangoon if I'm in the mood and that's about it. If I'm going to an Italian place, I'll look for a fish or something non breaded and take the rest home. If we are doing a burger place, I'll do a bun less burger with Condiments on the side and give the fries away to the kids and take the rest of the burger home. You'll be surprised how long leftovers go. I had a ribeye steak one day and it lasted me 6 meals with plenty leftover for the dog. lol

1-what is a chicken broth diet? I didn't have chicken broth so am not sure why you are drinking something you don't like. Are you referring to your pre-op diet? The clear phase?
I haven't had any chicken broth and am doing fine.
2-Pureeing should be ok preop because texture doesn't matter except for when you are supposed to be on Clear liquids.
3-pre-op or post-op? I have Snacks all the time.
4-My incisions healed in about four weeks when I was cleared to get in the pool. I still have scars.
5-For me, I find I "crave" more healthy foods.
6-again, are you talking pre-op or post-op? Post-op, it really depends on what phase you are on and where you go out to eat. Liquids: Soup is a good choice. Soft foods: soft fish, refried Beans, cottage cheese, etc.
Sorry I don't have more explicit answers. A lot of these answers really depend on your specific program requirements and where you are in the process.
Use your program materials and ask your NUT if you have questions about your specific requirements. Leading up to surgery and in the first month or so after surgery I didn't put anything in my mouth without double-checking my program manual.

It looks like you haven't had your surgery yet. I had bypass and I don't know how different the sleeve is but I had absolutely no interest in anything sweet initially after surgery. In fact anything that even smelled sweet would turn my stomach and I was a sugarholic before surgery.
For me at about 5 months post op I went on a Hawaiian vacation and my granddaughter had a slice of Oreo cheesecake. It looked absolutely delicious so I stuck my fork in it and then did it again and one more time. That was the night I learned that I truly don't dump.
Now I still don't like anything overly sweet and thank goodness for that but I do get cravings for something sweet. I try very hard not to give in to my sweet tooth because it really is a slippery slope. I will usually have a pot of chocolate chai tea made with skim milk. The only sugar is that in the milk but it's enough to satisfy me.
On occasion I will have a real treat but it is definately the exception not the rule.
Anyway, are you wondering because you have a sweet tooth now? You definately want to focus your efforts on good carbs and stay away from processed foods and sugar to have the best possible weight loss.
There will be the occasions down the road but initially I personally would stay away.
    That's just me.
    Good luck Monday!
