  1. Yes, I had surgery and am doing well. Thanks for asking! I've lost 33lbs so far so that makes me happy! Eating is going ok, still trying to figure it all out. It's hard to get everything in each day. I'm still on mushies and I'm suppose to get 3 "meals" and 2 Protein shakes in each day and then the 64 oz of fluids. It's a lot and add in the 30/30 before and after meals and there isn't enough time in a day, but I'm doing my best. Any suggestions? Exercise is my next goal. I have started walking and that is all that my doctor wants me to do until my next visit. Then that challenge begins How is your journey going?
  2. How are you doing? Did you get a private room?
  3. Hi, I just had surgery Monday and I got at private room. There seems to be a lot of them, but the minute I got there to register I would ask who ever I was talking to "are you the one I should talk to about getting a private room." Finally their was a nurse that said "I'll put it on a yellow sticky and stick it on your chart that you are requesting a private room." And I got one! I found everyone there very kind and helpful. One young women names Liz who was from Russia was really sweet. I was doing so good I only stayed one night which I wanted. My husband spent the night too and he got no sleep and of course I didn't sleep much either so home was the place for us if I was fit to go. And I was! Good luck on the 17th let me know if there are any other questions you have. I know what your feeling right now, hang in there

  8. I am so excited! I am on day 13 of my clear liquid, Protein shake pre-op diet so I understand what you new pre-opers are going through. Here are a few things that has helped me - if you can have sugar free popsicles try putting an orange one in your vanilla shake (or any flavor popsicle), put a little decaf instant coffee in shakes it helps cut down on sweetness as well as changes the flavor and of course the sugar free syrups. I have caramel and I combine a chocolate shake with a few squirts of caramel and a little instant coffee and its just like Starbucks...not really but it's something different! I also got an ice tea maker so I can put decaf tea in it and add stevia if I want it a little sweet and mint if I'm feeling real crazy. I got tired of the taste of sweeteners. Also, congrats to all that are on the losers bench already! Its so inspiring to hear how well everyone is doing! Keep letting us know what works for you and how you're doing! I'm praying and thinking about all of you!!! I have surgery this Monday, Feb 8th so if you could do the same for me I would appreciate it!

  11. Ok, I'm definitely having broth tonight!!! Who knew me and my sweet tooth would be so OVER dessert-y shakes? I'm on the Optifast meal replacements and they're not that bad at all! I just can't anymore. I am only on day two of twelve and had a cup of broth today and I agree it was amazing!!! My NUT told me I could strain a can of chicken noodle soup or beef and vegetable soup if I wanted more flavor. There is definitely more broth in my future!

  13. I feel your pain! I started today too. That's a sweet young man to support you like that and he's right "it's going to be alright." But at times it's not going to be easy. We have to keep our eyes on the prize! Hang in there...I'll be giving myself this pep talk tomorrow.

  15. I am a member of a WLS support group in Fredericksburg. It was started through "Meetup" and we meet the first Monday of each month at the University of Mary Washington. We have been meeting for 2 months and it has been very helpful. I just started my pre-op diet and am scheduled for surgery Feb 8th!
  16. Started my pre-op diet today! For two weeks each day I get 4 Bariatric Advantage Protein shakes, two Protein Bars, clear liquid and a banana. Two days before my surgery I can't have the banana or bars. One day almost down, it's going to be a long two weeks but totally worth it!
  17. Anyone having surgery at Fair Oaks on or around Feb 8th?
  18. I am having mine done at Inova Hospital in Virginia. What about you?

  23. I have felt the same way...no pictures please. Then I would feel bad not being in family photos. I will be glad to have that behind me. My insurance required me to have a 30 minute phone conference with a nurse once a month for a year I started 1/16/15. Well the year is up! I "graduated" from the program and was approved 1/19/16. I finished all the medical tests and just had my pre-op appointment with my surgeon 1/21/16, which went great, and an appointment with the NUT to get my pre-op Protein shakes and bars. I am scheduled for surgery 2/8/16 and I can't believe its finally here. I start my clear liquid, Protein Shakes and bar diet on Monday. It's all so surreal. It's finally here! This web site has been so helpful preparing me for these days. I look forward to going through this life changing event with each one of you! I found a support group in my town too. There are only 4 of us but it has been great. I am going to keep a journal on my computer on imovie so I can see the changes as well as hear them. I, like you, think it's important to remember where we have come from so we don't go back. The protein brand I have to drink is Bariatric Advantage has any one tried them? Good Luck Everyone!
  24. I got approved today! Surgery date the 8th!
