  1. Sorry I had surgery 1/4/17. So I am a little over 2 months out.

    Eggs and refried beans

CocoNina, I am the same. I just cannot handle the scrambled eggs but can have fried, boiled and poached. Thought it was just me, but really they just don't move through. Pureed Pinto beans are my go to. They make my tummy feel better. Kathy
  3. Hi everyone. I had my RNY 1/4/16. My doctor advanced me to a regular diet Feb 16th. I have finally figured out how much to eat and knowing when one more bite will bite me back. At least most of the time I do. The last few weeks I am having issues when I start drinking liquids 1/2 to 1 hour after a meal. It causes pain and vomiting a lot of the time. I know that I am chewing good (you can tell when it comes back out). Sometimes there seems to be no ryhme or reason as to it beign WHAT I ate. One day I do eggs just fine, but the next they don't move on through. I backed down to soft foods and purees, and today has been ok. But this did actually happen once with a SF fudgcicle. Is this normal for my stage? Kathy Sandoval HW 320 SW 291 CW 247

    Your Favorite Puree

For a quick spree I liked canned chicken breast with 1TBL mayo, pepper, dill and onion powder.
  5. Update on my surgery. Sunday night hubby had to bringing me to ER. I was in severe pain all day and throwing. Turns out that scar tissue caused hernias in lower abdominal. My surgeon probed around and found the blockages and fixed them all. He also ran the entire bowel to ensure there was no blockages left. It was open surgery though so I am touchy, but on my way to better things!

    Gained a pound

I know that my surgeon said it is normal to gain at first. When a body is injured it collects fluid and that is notorious weight gain. I believe one gal of water weighs about eight pounds.
  7. Thank you everyone for the encouragement. I actually do feel a bit better today and managed to get my liquid down along with some clear liquid. (Jello and Broth) I am walking and doing my spirometer faithfully. It feels almost like painful gas bubbles now, Also no BM's yet. I am sure that does not help. Here is to successfull, healthy journeys for us all!
  8. I have never hurt so much in my life. And I have had 6 other oooperations. Is this normal?
  9. I am still pre-op, my surgery is tomorrow! I like the Bariatric Advantage Meal Replacements shakes. You mix with Water and they have 27 grams of Protein. I saw somewhere that some add sugar free flavorings to the shakes. So I tried that too. DiVinci has a sugar free/0 cal variety pack on Amazon. So far I like the chocolate shake with raspberry, caramel or hazelnut. I like the vanilla shake with caramel, choclolate or Irish cream. My surgeon also recommends Carnation instant Breakfast light made with skim or 1% milk. I hope that helps and good luck on your journey!

    Depression and Hormones

I think I am in the middle of menopause. I am currently 55 with my surgery set for 1/4/17. I have not had a period since 2005 but lately I am getting terrible hot flashes. I thought I was about done with them. Those of you with experience, what did the surgery do to your hot flashes?

    BCBSNC coverage

I have BCBSTX and I know that the out of pocket max, is the most you will pay for the year. Log into your portal and see if your plan is 80/20 or 90/10. If your deductible is less than the max out of pocket, typically the insurance covers a portion (80 or 90%). I don't know about your plan, but with mine, the family deductible is met by whoever/however gets there first. So for mine, I have $1300/person deductible. then 6000 out of pocket max. Since my husband and I are both on the plan, I have to meet $2600 before the insurance kicks in and pays 10%. Once I reach $6000 for the year, the insurance will pay 100%. So my surgery is 1/4/17. That is a whole new deductible for me and I have already paid the surgeon $2860 and the hospital $870. The hospital was only half though and I will owe another 870 before my surgery day. That is just for the surgery. Then I will be billed for the recovery and care after. (2-3 days) Hope that helps!
  12. I hope everything went well for you! Sometimes what we imagine could happen is worse than the reality. Here is to your new journey! I have mine on the 4th so I share your fears too. Let us know how it all went!

New here and preop for rny

Hi there! I am new too. My surgery is sceduled for Jan 4th. I am so exicited for a healthier me as well!
  14. I am using Bariatric Advantage. The vanilla flavor has 27 grams Protein, 7 grams carbs, 1.5 grams fat and 150 calories per 8 oz serving. I actually do not find the taste offensive as I do other high protein Meal Replacements. I buy on Amazon for $63 for 35 servings. I have the chocolate flavor as well and that is also good. I was told that after surgery I could add powdered milk to up the protein. Not sure how that would taste!
  15. Happy 51st Birthday sandokat!
