  1. Hi everyone. I had my RNY 1/4/16. My doctor advanced me to a regular diet Feb 16th. I have finally figured out how much to eat and knowing when one more bite will bite me back. At least most of the time I do. The last few weeks I am having issues when I start drinking liquids 1/2 to 1 hour after a meal. It causes pain and vomiting a lot of the time. I know that I am chewing good (you can tell when it comes back out). Sometimes there seems to be no ryhme or reason as to it beign WHAT I ate. One day I do eggs just fine, but the next they don't move on through. I backed down to soft foods and purees, and today has been ok. But this did actually happen once with a SF fudgcicle. Is this normal for my stage? Kathy Sandoval HW 320 SW 291 CW 247
  2. Sorry I had surgery 1/4/17. So I am a little over 2 months out.

    Eggs and refried beans

CocoNina, I am the same. I just cannot handle the scrambled eggs but can have fried, boiled and poached. Thought it was just me, but really they just don't move through. Pureed Pinto beans are my go to. They make my tummy feel better. Kathy

    Your Favorite Puree

For a quick spree I liked canned chicken breast with 1TBL mayo, pepper, dill and onion powder.
  5. I have never hurt so much in my life. And I have had 6 other oooperations. Is this normal?
  6. Update on my surgery. Sunday night hubby had to bringing me to ER. I was in severe pain all day and throwing. Turns out that scar tissue caused hernias in lower abdominal. My surgeon probed around and found the blockages and fixed them all. He also ran the entire bowel to ensure there was no blockages left. It was open surgery though so I am touchy, but on my way to better things!

    Gained a pound

I know that my surgeon said it is normal to gain at first. When a body is injured it collects fluid and that is notorious weight gain. I believe one gal of water weighs about eight pounds.
  8. Thank you everyone for the encouragement. I actually do feel a bit better today and managed to get my liquid down along with some clear liquid. (Jello and Broth) I am walking and doing my spirometer faithfully. It feels almost like painful gas bubbles now, Also no BM's yet. I am sure that does not help. Here is to successfull, healthy journeys for us all!
  9. I am still pre-op, my surgery is tomorrow! I like the Bariatric Advantage Meal Replacements shakes. You mix with Water and they have 27 grams of Protein. I saw somewhere that some add sugar free flavorings to the shakes. So I tried that too. DiVinci has a sugar free/0 cal variety pack on Amazon. So far I like the chocolate shake with raspberry, caramel or hazelnut. I like the vanilla shake with caramel, choclolate or Irish cream. My surgeon also recommends Carnation instant Breakfast light made with skim or 1% milk. I hope that helps and good luck on your journey!

    Depression and Hormones

I think I am in the middle of menopause. I am currently 55 with my surgery set for 1/4/17. I have not had a period since 2005 but lately I am getting terrible hot flashes. I thought I was about done with them. Those of you with experience, what did the surgery do to your hot flashes?

    BCBSNC coverage

I have BCBSTX and I know that the out of pocket max, is the most you will pay for the year. Log into your portal and see if your plan is 80/20 or 90/10. If your deductible is less than the max out of pocket, typically the insurance covers a portion (80 or 90%). I don't know about your plan, but with mine, the family deductible is met by whoever/however gets there first. So for mine, I have $1300/person deductible. then 6000 out of pocket max. Since my husband and I are both on the plan, I have to meet $2600 before the insurance kicks in and pays 10%. Once I reach $6000 for the year, the insurance will pay 100%. So my surgery is 1/4/17. That is a whole new deductible for me and I have already paid the surgeon $2860 and the hospital $870. The hospital was only half though and I will owe another 870 before my surgery day. That is just for the surgery. Then I will be billed for the recovery and care after. (2-3 days) Hope that helps!
  12. I hope everything went well for you! Sometimes what we imagine could happen is worse than the reality. Here is to your new journey! I have mine on the 4th so I share your fears too. Let us know how it all went!

New here and preop for rny

Hi there! I am new too. My surgery is sceduled for Jan 4th. I am so exicited for a healthier me as well!
  14. I am using Bariatric Advantage. The vanilla flavor has 27 grams Protein, 7 grams carbs, 1.5 grams fat and 150 calories per 8 oz serving. I actually do not find the taste offensive as I do other high protein Meal Replacements. I buy on Amazon for $63 for 35 servings. I have the chocolate flavor as well and that is also good. I was told that after surgery I could add powdered milk to up the protein. Not sure how that would taste!
  15. Sounds like you are allergic or sensitive to adhesive. I have had some surgery after the band and have had a bad time with anything with adhesive. My surgeon used a glue instead of the strips and that worked really well for me. You want to make sure the lotion you are using does not contain formaldehyde (I know I spelled that wrong!). If you have to have the strips reapplied, ask them to use skin prep. It puts down a barrier between your skin and the adhesive.

    "Stuck" Explanation please...

The best way I can describe it... Have you ever been drinking cold Water or soda and swallow an air bubble? You can feel it go all the way down. It feels kind of like that but a little worse. Kathy

    Banded and Confused...

Does it seem that you are getting stuck mostly when eating bread items? I know that I can not ever do white bread, and cannot do any bread at all that is not toasted. I get stuck and it really hurts. I can sometimes do a small piece of whole wheat toast with jelly. But teeny tiny bites, and lots of chewing and eat it slowly. You mentioned the sub sandwich and the bread was my first thought, but I also have problems getting down processed lunch meat as well. For some reason it does not chew the same as the deli meat. That is another thought. I know that different foods will affect each person differently. For instance I have no problems eating corn. Some lapbanders get stuck with corn. Keep a log of what you eat, and what causes problems. That should help. Also talk to your doctor and or nutritionist. They should be able to help. Kathy
  18. Hi all. I was banded 10/1/09. On Feb 16th I had to have the port out because of infection. (Also had my gallbladder removed at the same time). On April 16th they replaced the port at a different location. On May 29th they had to remove it again because of infection. It is a common staff infection, but I got very sick. Has this happened to anyone else? Are you still losing weight? I still have the band and do have some restriction. I hope I can end up at least keeping the band. Kathy:cursing:

    Port Infection - twice

In my case it did not hurt but didn't feel right. It wasn't until I started having gall bladder attacks, and the port site got a big lump that we knew it was infected. In my case I originally had an infection in the incision where the pain pump was. The staff could have travelled down that line to the port. The infectious disease doctor thinks that maybe there was staff on the tube from the band to the port that may have infected the 2nd site. I am just hoping I don't have to lose the band. I have not lost a lot (77-79 lbs since September) but I feel so much better without the weight. I need to lose about 75-100 more. I am scared I won't be able to get to a healthy weight. Kathy:wub:

    Hi from Michigan

Way to go Cindy! I just got my band on October 1st, along with a double hernia surgery. I hope I can lose as good as you! I am out of the 3's and down to the 2's already though! Kathy
  21. I was banded 10/1 and still cannot sleep on my side either. We too have uncomfortable furniture (no recliner) . Hubby took me to Bed, Bath and Beyond and we got a wedge pillow. That helps tremendously as far as comfort goes. I tried last night on my side and it was a big NO. Hubby had to help me up and fix the pillow back. "My bed is a sleep number bed and I lowered the number to help support me better." Thanks for that tip. We have a sleep number bed as well. I turned the bed up...I will turn it down tonight and see if that helps. I am so sore from the bed, the couch, the chair. I know I need to see the chiropractor but at this stage he probably can't help me much. Kathy Banded 10/1/01 Highest 320 Preop 305 Today 301-with my heavy shoes!
  22. My first attempt at surgery was on 9/18/08. They opened my up and closed me up. Apparently, the hyatal hernia was just to big for my doctor to handle alone. That surgery was on Thursday and I went back to work Monday. I got a call on the 29th to see if I could come in for surgery on October 1st, which I did. So I am banded (yeah!!!) I am so very sore. I am not allowed to do much until my diaphram heals more, they say it will be extrememly painful if my stomach slips up past my diaphram again. Has any one else had this occur or am I the lone ranger? Did the pain ever, ever, ever get better? I am walking, but not every hour. I try not to cough much because the hernia guy said I shouldn't. Basically I am paranoid that the hernia will reoccur. As for the rest, it is going ok. I am still on liquids and having a hard time getting all my Protein. I did discover those "bullets" though, it makes it much easier. If anyone has done this I would appreciate knowing your experiences. Kathy :tt2:

Congratulations! I get my lap band on the 18th! I am hoping also to get out of those 3's! Kathy
  25. Hi all. I am new at posting here but have lurked a long while! I finally got a date for my surgery! The Drs office called and I am set for September 18th. How fast that is! I went from not being sure my insurance would even approve it (Aetna) to having a date in 3 weeks. I have the mandetory nutrition class next week. How exciting. I have to give kudos to my family doctor, he called the insurance and fought for me. I am in Colorado, my surgeon is Dr. Synder. I really like him. Anyone else have experience with Dr. Synder?
