Hey I am almost on my 4th out of 6th appointment with my doctor and we should probably have the sleeve around the same time as my last appointment is the end of June. I would love to have a person to discuss my worries and excitement with

Mine was when my 3 year old was playing tee ball this past fall. Running the bases winded me. I played college softball so that really bothered me. On month 4 of diet/exercise visits with my PCP. Looking forward to the sleeve in June/July.

I know how you feel, I'm only 21 and when people find out I'm getting the surgery they're like your so young you can do it by yourself. Little do they know I've been overweight my whole life and it's just getting worse. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Obesity is hard to beat especially because like you said, food is a huge part of some people's lives. When my mother got the surgery she was miserable and had many regrets but after 1 or 2 months she said she'd never go back. Once you start seeing all the benefits you'll realize it was worth it. My mother was so upset because when we went to resteraunts or buffets we'd eat like monsters and she could only nibble. Little did she know we were jealous because we wish we could control our eating and be losing weight lol

I know it's disappointing but be thankful that you have a good medical team looking out for your best interests. The complications could have been deadly. Stay strong and feel better soon!

Everyone deserves to be treated like everyone else, with respect, regardless of their size but at the same time we've become so over sensitive to the word "fat" and "obese" that if anyone calls us that anyone who calls us it even with good intentions in their heart, we feel offended. My doctor has told me I'm obese and need to lose weight for my health and never once have a been offended however is someone was to call me a fatty or make fun of me I'd be very hurt. The line is very very thin.

Amurillo04 reacted to gowalking in So why does this annoy me so much?
A friend at work told me her MIL had WLS. As this friend has always known about my being banded, she had no problem telling me her obese and ill (comorbidities such as Type2 diabetes and hypertension) MIL finally decided to do something about her situation and had some type of surgery. (She's not sure which one).
It's now about five months since mom had surgery and my friend tells me she hasn't lost much weight at all. I was surprised that it wasn't noticible after this much time but now I know why. Friend had her in-laws over last weekend and she said her MIL ate basically the same way she did before surgery. The only difference she could see was the amount was somewhat smaller but otherwise, she was eating the same food she ate before. Bagels at Breakfast, bad choices at lunch and dinner....and still drinking both wine and hard liquor. Including mixed drinks with high sugar additives.
I can't begin to tell you all how much this bothered me. Why have surgery if you're not going to follow the rules? How did this get past her meeting with the psychologist? Why waste the opportunity when I see so many on these boards who desperately want surgery and can't get it.
Anyway...that's why I put this is rants & raves. Can't do anything about it even though I'd like to shake this woman into appreciating the opportunity she was given..and has decided to throw away.

    For the record ...
I did NOT like my body or a lot of other things about myself when I was fat.
I didn't accept my body when I was fat. That wasn't the body I was meant to have.
I had trouble walking, I was agoraphobic, I was embarrassed, I was not happy.
    Frankly, the whole situation sucked.
And, frankly, my unhappiness with my body and that situation motivated me mightily to learn about WLS and, eventually, decide it was a solution that might work for me.
I like everything about my body and myself and my life a WHOLE LOT MORE when I'm not fat.

don't go getting rid of a 16 year friendship just because people on the internet are telling you to based on this one situation that's ridiculous
it's obvious that she is threatened by you having the surgery she even admitted it by asking if you'd be the same person..you have to tell her how you felt about it instead of be quiet..that's the problem with most relationships..people speak in code and don't say things instead of coming out with what bothers them in plain english
if she continues to act this way then you should consider reevaluating your friendship with her

I hate when adults say another adult is jealous as a knee jerk response. This isn't middle school.
After her success and relapse, you being successful is going to highlight her own mistakes. She is probably more ashamed than anything.
Honestly, 2 years from now, I doubt I will be talking about surgery at all. I don't want to be the poster child for surgery so that anyone that has surgery, that I know for the rest of my life, will come to be and ask me questions. The reason I kept my surgery a secret was because I don't want to be talking about the sleeve for the rest of my life. It was a thing that happened, it has helped me, but it isn't the focus of my life or the most important thing.
If you failed at something would you want someone reminding you of that failure every day? With gleeful enthusiasm?
Hopefully you both can take this as an opportunity to strengthen your friendship. At 26 though, most people aren't that evolved. Also something you might end up learning in your 20s is just because you grew up with someone and you were friends when you were younger (before your personality was fully formed) doesn't mean you are going to be friends through your adult lives.
Focus on yourself, your surgery and your success. Good luck.

I think we can sometimes take for granted what a huge, mind-blowing gift we are given by having the means and opportunity to have wls. I think we sometimes forget, when all is said and done, that not only are we losing weight and becoming healthy, but most of us avoided death that had been lurking just around the corner. I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of this woman, and it grieves me to consider the enormous amount of people who never had the chance that I've been given, or never will. It's humbling. I'm going to cherish this gift and live my life remembering every day just how incredibly lucky and grateful I am.

I am on a 6 Month supervised diet to qualify for my surgery. Already have done a few support groups and 2 dietician visits. One more dietician visit then 2 with my primary provider, plus my psych eval and finally can meet with a surgeon!
I have United for insurance and when they first told me six months, I was discouraged but it's passing very quickly! I'm on target to meet with my surgeon in August.
I have to drop 8 pounds to qualify to move forward as a requirement as well.

I'm on the same timeline as you also! I had my initial consult on 3/25. My insurance requires nutrition classes & Med supervised weight loss for 90 days, which I started on 4/5. I hope to be approved in early July.
An aunt of mine had gastric bypass & I was amazed by her transformation. She has been very open about her process but I'm really shy to tell anyone about this. I'm in my early 30s and worry that people will think I'm being lazy or taking the easy way out because I'm so young. That being said, I'm determined to do this and feel a lot of hope about the future.

    Hello WLS family!
I am in the beginning stages of the pre-op process. I just had my initial consult with my surgeon on 4/9 and I have my first appointment with the nutritionist this afternoon.
My insurance only requires 3 months of supervision by a nutritionist prior to surgery, so I will be looking at an operation sometime in July or August.
I came here so that I can surround myself with people who have been where I am, or still are. I have received mixed reactions from my friends and family about my decision to do WLS, ranging from full support, to something close to anger or embarrassment.
I have been reading through the posts here and I can see that this is certainly an exceptional group of people. I have already learned so much.
I would really love to hear all of your individual stories. What made you decide that the Sleeve was for you? What were your fears and struggles, and how did you overcome them? What are you still struggling with? What was your journey to surgery like? The first few days post-op? How much weight have you lost? What are your favorite post-op foods and exercises? How did your families react to your decision?
I would really love to see your responses if you have a moment. I sincerely look forward to getting to know all of you.
Also, I am located up in Nor Cal near Roseville if any of you want to get together for a walk or something
