  1. Ok, I just got banded yesterday and i have some questions? I was released from the hospital today and my dr told me that I could have a combination of clear liquids and full liquids. Basically he said that I could have anything that I did not have to chew. He suggested chicken and beef broth, pudding, jello, mashed potatoes really soggy, and creamy soup as long as I did not have to chew it. This is a little concerning to me because I have read alot on these threads and most people have to do all clear liquids for a short time and them move to full liquids and then to mushies. This is odd to me because pudding to me is considered a mushy and so is cream soup. The dr. said he did not want me to worry about losing any weight at this time he just wanted my bad to set in it's place and not slip. He said that by drinking and eating things that did not require chewing would help me to do this. Please advise am I sabotaging myself by starting to eat watery mashed potatoes and things so early after that bad. I even asked him if i needed to eat sugar free and low fat jello or pudding and he said not to worry about it.

I just got banded yesterday and have questions?

Ok for example to day in the hospital theya gave me chicken broth, apple juice and sorbet. I had that around noon then sipped on some water until I got home which was around 5:00 I then drank 2 oz of cream broccli soup. Then I just sipped on some crystal light till 7:00 and had 2 oz of watery mash potatoes. I guess since today is my first day I am still a little confused. I plan to call the dietician in the morning to let her know what how I am eating and see what she sais. It doesnt seem like alot of food since it is only 2 oz but I don't want to be eating more than I should.

Thanks so much for your response. I feel a little better. Alot like you I was wondering why he suggested all of those foods when it was only supposedly liquids. Another question I have is that I know we are supposed to eat several times a day he said like every 30 mins to an hour of course only 1 ounce to 2 ounces. This to me at this point seems almost impossible. I guess I could carry a bottle of crystal light and sip throughout the day. What do you all suggest.

    dieting again

Try atkins, it's not to a long term healthy diet but I lost 30 lbs in a month 1 time from doing it. Of course I gained it back but if losing 12 lbs is all you need for the dr. to do surgery then I say go for it. I'm not banded yet but I will be I will have the surgery this Monday coming up. I have tried for the past month to lose weight by exercising and watching what I eat. I lost 6 lbs but I have gained almost 4 back. It is very hard to do.

Length Of Time To Get Approved

I had to fill out a questionaire when I had my first visit with the Dr. Watson the lap band surgeon. I had to provide details about medically supervised diets. I had tried weight watchers,Atkins, slim fast, the grapefruit diet, and even joined a gym, my primary care physician also provided a letter in which he had prescribed adapex, meridia and I had not been successful in losing the weight. I was really surprised that by the August I had received an approval for the surgery and a scheduled date in October. Come to find out later in August that I was pregnant and had to cancel my surgery. Well I had the baby in March of 2005 and in June started submitting paper work again for surgery. I had my visit again in June of 2005 with the same Dr. only this time it took longer than the first. The billing person at the Dr's office kept saying they were not receiving the information and the insurance kept saying they had sent it. After numerous phone calls to the insurance company and leaving messages with case workers I finally got a call back for a supervisor. She was an angel and faxed the approval letter to me. I faxed it to the Dr. and due to another person cancelling. I will be having surgery on Nov 7th. I am so excited. But I tell you what I thought this was never going to happen. It took so long but I didn't give up. I tell you what those people were tired of me but I didn't care. I finally got what I needed but it was a struggle. Don't give up and try to start keeping a journal of your weight loss attempts. That can be supplied as proof also.

    needing help in Dallas!!!!!!!!!

It does take a while to get a date even when insurance is paying. I had been working on my approval since June 26th of this year. Finally got it about 2 weeks ago then they still wouldnt schedule me until late nov or dec but luckily a cancellcation came up and I will be banded on Nov 7th I am taking a week off because a friend of mine at work just had it done and she said 5- 7 days was just enough time to feel better. Good luck! Don't worry and be patient. That what everyone kept telling me and it finally happened.
  10. Oh my god reading all this just makes me realize that I am not the only 1 doing things and hoping other people didn't notice. I have done almost every thing every one has mentioned. Especially ask for a table at a restaurant to avoid the embarrasment of not fitting in a booth. I went to six flags about 2 years ago and got on the Mr. Freeze, the bar was so tight I actually blacked out on the ride. When I came to I realized the ride was over. I also attempted to get on the Batman, my husband pushed down on the bar with his full body weight and the bar would not click. How embarrasing I should have known better. The attendant finally said " Ma'am I'm sorry but you can't ride if the seat will not buckle. Jesus help me! But I still couldn't stop eating it just made me feel worse.
