lap band surgery with hernia in abdomen

Hi Normajean. This is Sue and I have a huge hernia on my right side. I had 2 surgerys for hernias after colon surgery 3 years ago. Guess we get them because we are overweight & they keep coming back. My doc said he wanted to wait until I lost about 50# before he did the hernia so it would not come back. I wear a band every day to hold it in so I will not have a problem. My husband calls it my alien in my tummy. Thought it was getting bigger, but my other side was getting smaller because of the weight loss. Wanted to get them both done at the same time (lap band & hernia), but the doc talked me out of it and it made sense to wait for a weight loss. Keep me posted and I will do the same. Sue
  4. Wow, this is the first I have heard of a leak, I had a fill last month and did not feel any different, but it hurt when the doc stuck me and I thought maybe he missed the port and shot that stuff somewhere else. I have not lost any weight this month, but not gained any either. Am curious about my next fill and if I will feel restricted. My doc just feels it then shoots me, never had a scope done. Does the shot hurt anyone else? I have never had a problem with shots, but this one did hurt. Sue

    The untold of lapband

Was banded Jan. 15 this year, always had a problem and being banded didn't change anything. The doctor told me to take laxatives every day. Did not know it would cause problems. I usually take them twice a week. I ate prunes for a week every day, still did not go. Some of us are just bound to hold it in. Looking forward to some other answers. Sue
  6. I think our brain tells us we are still hungry because we have eaten this way all our lives. But you will feel different after your first fill. I have had 2 fills and cannot eat as much, but my head still tries to tell me I can. It will start coming up on you after your fill. Hang in there, we are all going through the same thing.

    knot/lump in stomach

Thanks for missing me. Had a lot going on. 90th birthday party for my mom and company. Did have lots notice my 40 pound loss. Now I have to get back on track and get busy losing more.
  8. Hi Julialois, this is Sue and its nice to hear someone near my age (66) has had the band done. How are you doing, had any problems, is it harder for you? Had mine done 1/15/08 & had 1 fill and some taken out this week because everything was coming up. Would love to hear from you.

Hi Lee, glad to hear all went well with you. Mine went pretty good too except I seem to be experiencing more pain than other folks. I have a hernia problem and they did not fix that yet. Want me to wait till I lose some weight. I have that pulling pain on the port site and pain in my chest like heart burn. Also had some in my shoulder. Good to hear am not the only one. Kind of scarey, but like the others said I have to shape up and show those young kids us old birds are tough. Does anyone have a problem with hunger? My stomach is groweling and telling me to eat. I am being good but surprised at the feeling. Sue

    over sixty seven

Good to be able to read about others my age. I am 66 and had my surgery last week. I also had to have it done because I could not walk without a problem breathing, or stand without back pain. Want my husband & I to have some good years together and felt this was the way to go. Tried everything there is and it worked for about 25 pounds then I would gain it back plus more. My doctor was wonderful about getting this all started for me & no problems with Medicare. Hope you will allow me to join your group, I need the support as well. Sue

    Will also join sixties group

Hi there, I am a healthy 66 year old female, had surgery last week and have lost 12 lbs so far. Being on liquids for a week has made this possible am sure. I am still having pain, so have not started being active yet, but hope to next week. What are you eating? Have you had that full feeling yet we are supposed to get? Happened to me for first time today. Would love to chat.

Where are all the Michigan people at??

Hi everyone, just had my surgery last Tues. Went to Port Huron & very happy. Everything is still too new and don't know how I feel yet. Still in pain & hungry sometimes. Have lost 12 lbs so far. My hospital room mate sent me to this site. Will be good to hear from others and hear if they are as scared as me.
