    Motivation...

My motivation was to be Healthy...Looking awesome was going to be the icing on the cake!! I just had my band removed after 4 years-It didn't make me healthy,It made me thinner for awhile and then it just made me sick, Literally, Please please look into all the wls available to you especially if your doing this to fall pregnant-statistically you WILL have more surgeries with the band weather to fix a flip/slip or removal or reband. I just went through three pretty scary years with this and im far from alone you need to look up the failed band sites and the negative stories as well as the posotive you also need to look into people that are 3,4,5,8,10 years out not just the ones that are 6 months or 18 months!! I wish you all the best and i hope that you have a beautiflu and healthy pregnancy when the time comes.

    It's Out!

Chi-Girl...you are so lucky to be able to eat veg!! I could only eat it if the life was cooked out of it and even then it usually came back up...I had resorted to juicing all my veg for the day just to try and get some in!! I hope your friend gets her band troubles sortedmine didn't really amp up until almost a year out and then it took me another 3 to get the courage up to fix it!! I love hearing about people that are more than 18months out and are doing well with the band, you dont hear it all that much especially not three years out-Good luck i hope you stay on the happy side of the band :-) falling leaves-Yes i had it just over 4 years if you want to know my reasons for removal i have two blogs on here one from early days of the band and this one more around my removal- I stopped posting pretty early on after being made to feel like I had failed my band when in fact My surgeon failed me and the band faile me-Good luck to you as well.

    One Week On

So it's now exactly on week since having my "band" removed. I did 24 hours in hospital, I was quite well prepared for the pain as it was very similar to the band going in-the port site was a little bit sorer than the first time but i knew that would be the case given my port was flipped and surrounded by scar tissue so needed to be dug out! I was told by my original surgeon at my third or forth fill that my band was "slightly tilted but that's ok it won't make any difference at all" which was his reason for doing the fills under xray. When i started having troubles keeping anything down i sked if it could be because theband was "tilted" he assured me that no that's not it and that he'd meant the port?? He also "assured" me that if i was vomiting it was my own fault i was either eating too fast(no) to much(no) over too long a period(wtf??) or just to eating right...when i pointed out i some times had troubles with liquids in the morning he said it was in my head....Hence why i stopped going!! fast forward three years(so four years out and moved to a different state ) and Im not keeping very much of anything down ,what i can keep down are generally sliders,I've gained a lot of what i lost and im having trouble swallowing so i finally fessed up to my GP(pcp) that i had a band and what trobles i was having-she sent me for bloods and a barrium...I had/have esopheagal dysmobility which is why i now have trouble swallowing and nearly all bloods were tanked out well below "low" levels. I found a surgeon who wasn't going to try to push me to be rebanded and set a date-thankfully he slotted me in pretty fast-surgery went well and i spoke to the surgeon a few hours later,He let me know that NONE of this had been my fault The original surgeon had placed the band in the wrong spot-too low and on an angle,it had at some stage sllipped from there, not a big slip, but enough to make more scar tissue, the port was totally flipped and had been for some time it also had A LOT of scar tissue around it. I regret that i ever got the band,I wish when i had asked the surgeon initially about sleeves and RNY that i had pushed him when he had responded with"your BMI isn't high enough" I found out later he ONLY did the band and my BMI would have been ok for a Sleeve. I don't wish anyone with a band anything except happiness success and for it to work as it's supposed to but statistically speaking that's not going to be the case for alot of people. Please don't bother to respond to this if your some 5 month out band cheerleader that thinks you know everything and wants to "bash me" for "bashing the band" that s not what im doing -I'm putting forth an honest situation you may be met with in the future and quite honestly im not intrested in your opinion!! Good luck guys xxx

    Considering Lap Band Need Advice

My advice would be to do as much research on the positive and Negatives as possible-especially the statistics for 3,5 and 10 years out-the band can be great but it's not for everyone and sometimes the people that are singing it's praises at one year are dealing with a totally different sitaution at 2 or three years. I think its fantastic that your looking into ways to make yourself healthier(and thinner)just remember that lapband is not the be all and end all and as for it being the "least invasive" it also has the highest revision/repair surgeries. Good luck with whichever way you choose to go i wish you lots of health and happiness :-)

Please Please Really Really Research This

2muchfun....Not to be a b***h but at 5 months out i was singing the praises of this thing even with the what i thought were mild issues-your 5 months out you have no idea what your talking about and i pray to god you don't go through what i've been through which is mild in comparision to some others,Speaking to the Surgeon today it was pointed out to me when i said that i felt like a failure that he's taken more bands out this year than he's been asked to put in and that removal rates were nearing 40%,4 years ago i was told 1% by my then surgeon. Yes i'm angry i have esophageal dysmotility from all the vomiting which should have been looked at early on but i was told i was lazy/eating to fast/eating to much/silly/whinging/imagining i was also told today my post is totally flipped-it was always tilted and my band is severly slipped AND after having all my xrays(all my fills were dione under xray with barrium) commpared you can see it had slipped slightly whilst still seeing the original surgeon-I HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO BE ANGRY! go look up all the failed band boards and groups!! Lageniafaye,Stephanie81 and Theresa'smom415-Thankyou i appreciate your comments. Im getting it Removed next week but because of how much damage the new surgeon is anticipating he thinks i'll need to wait three months to heal before i can revise he also wants to see how my osophegus goes in that time.
  9. Lap bands are horrible-After four horrendous years im getting mine out,4 years of constant vomiting,4 years of acid reflux,4 years of flucuating weight and the weight i did loose was NOT worth the pain im in,NO I’m not overfilled haven’t had a fill in over 3 years YES i chew chew chew until the food is liquid…Do your research look up how many revisions are being done now from the band NO it’s not the person failing the band. This is NOT a great solution it’ll cause you more problems than it’ll solve look into what other wls you can get! I researched the band for years before i went through with it-if i had held off a year i would have seen the negative posts and stories that started to appear, when i was looking into it i looked for the negative stories I looked for what could go wrong and the few i came across i thought "that dosen't sound right' but then i started living those things and i see that I'm not alone. Why are the doctors not being more honest about the revisions? why are they still doing this on MO and SMO -the chances of it working are "slim"to none. I so wanted this to work,I so wanted to be a "success" and technically i was a success i lost over 2/3rd of my weight and then i was left depressed and feeling like an absolute loser as it slowly crept back on-no matter what i did,I excersised and excersised but somehow ended up heading back towards my start weight-Im not at that weight and i won't get there either. I see the surgeon in 4 days i hope he will be the one to remove this awful thing. I want to be able to eat vegetables,I want to be able to eat meat I want to be able to eat healthy food not just the crap i can slip past the band.

    The Nightmare's Almost Over

What an effing nightmare!! I can't wait to get this nasty little thing out. My time has come-three horrific years is three more than i should have done-to be able to eat and DRINK without vomiting...that's the prize i see in sight~

I finally feel like i'm getting somewhere

So since my last fill i have actually been losing at a reasonably good pace which is great because i was seriously starting to think it wasn't going to work for me no matter how much exercise i was doing it was'nt really budging.......it is now . I weighed myself this morning and it was 88.5 kg so thats 26.4 kg GONE FOREVER-im almost at half way now which is awesome but kinda scarey aswell as much as i WANT to be thin and i do i really really do its almost like im scared to be there, Im scared of not having the imperfection of fat to hide behind and if im not fat anymore people will see that i have other imperfections and faults and for some reason that scares me to the point of having sabotaged/given up my other weight loss attempts. I think maybe i just need to lose a bit more get a bit more flexible and kick myself in my own butt........
