Many nutritionists will not focus on calories in the first several months. Why? You should be focusing on the amount of each serving (1/4 cup, 1/2 cup, etc). The emphasis should be to get your Protein and fluids in.
Don't fixate on calories especially if you weren't given a specific number. Stick to your nutritionists plan for you.

I'm only 5 days post op and on full liquids but my NUT has never said anything about a calorie goal... Just carbs, Protein, fluids. Right now I'm having a Protein Shake for Breakfast, light and fit Greek yogurt for lunch, and another shake for dinner. This is about 500 calories and meets my carbs under 50g and 60-80 protein rules. I feel like as long as I'm focused on low carbs/high protein calories don't matter too much. I can't imagine that it's possible to even consume many calories on 60-80g protein and less than 50g carbs.

Yes my nutrionist didnt tell me either. So i thought it was normal and because i feel great i didnt question it untiol i saw all the videos. Watching this post. I am 7 weeks post op and get between 500 and 700 cal. I want to start exercising more and I am worried I need to work on eating more.....A bizarre thought for somebody who's trying to lose weight. My NUT has me focusing on Protein first, vegetables and carbs if I have room. However she is never told me how many calories I really need to work, exercise etc.

BonnieJo reacted to Cervidae in 2 1/2 weeks post surgery
I would definitely give my doctor a call tomorrow. Especially if you do actually start vomiting. At this early stage in your recovery, staying hydrated and getting Protein into you is really important for the healing process. If you have to go in just to get rehydrated, do it. While you're there you can tell them about your symptoms.
If it gets worse before you go in to your doctors, I would go to the ER. Most likely it's not anything very serious and it will pass, but on the off chance that it is serious, don't gamble with your health. The whole reason you had surgery was to take care of yourself. Hope you feel better soon, keep us updated!

BonnieJo reacted to jj7481 in Average weight lost early on
What was your starting weight and when was your surgery date. Like @@kayjay14 posted you will lose the greatest amount the months to 1 year following surgery. The greater your weight the more you will lose per day.
Typical weight loss is 1/3 to 1/2 lb per day in the first few mos post op.

Everyone loses differently. It depends on how much you weigh. People that way more, tend to lose more initially. I started my journey at 243 and am in a stall right now at 195 and I had surgery October 28th. Be patient, it will start to come off

I'm in the pureed food stage. Does anyone know what the average weight loss is during this time? I don't seem to be losing much.

BonnieJo reacted to LosingLily16 in Calories Post Op
I have a question, Iam three weeks post op and my calories range between 800-900 and that works well for me but
Iam constantly watching you tube videos of other Gastric SLeeve patients and they all say 400-600 calories. Im concerned that Im over
doing it even thou I feel good and no bad effects from it. Im in the mushy and soft phase but all the calories come from foods I allowed to have.
Can anyone tell me if this is to much ?? and what there calories intake was or is ? Please

I think if you CAN get in that many this early out, then more power to you. One of the main reasons people experience fatigue post-op is not being able to get enough calories in early out. The sooner you can get up to a reasonable amount of calories, the better you will feel!

It's so good that you're acknowledging it to yourself and making changes to improve.
When I was deciding whether or not to get surgery, I looked into the five year outcomes of popular diets vs bariatric surgery. Five years after diet and exercise alone and almost everyone has gained the weight back. Five years after surgery, and almost everyone is still successful. That showed me that it's possible for people like us, who have struggled with our weight for long and have deeply ingrained bad food habits, to be successful. So you may not be perfect, but as long as you keep trying, everything will work out.
Love this, and I totally agree.

Stories like this keep me real. Thank you for sharing. I KNOW I am doing good, but little things are creeping in early. I used to have a pickle for the 'crunch". Now guess what? Three pickles. Not much right? Well, also my omelet at night has gone from one egg to two. I'm having a Jello that's only 10 calories, but I'm not bothering to log it.(or the pickles.) Its little things but I'm only 3 months out. What about later. I know I can't be so strict that I say "to hell with it all" but I must keep vigilant. I didn't pay 10,000 dollars out of my own pocket just to set myself up for failure ONE MORE TIME. It's all good, just keeping it honest.

Give yourself credit for acknowledging behaviors creeping back in, Maintenance can be tricky. Treating yourself once in a while is ok. It can trigger hunger and old behaviors. You can turn it around before it gets out of hand. You know yourself. You know what is healthy for you.

Hi there! I buy chocolate chai tea from Teavanna. There is cocoa nib in the tea it is not something I add. It has a subtle hint of chocolate and lovely chai spices. It is a loose tea and wonderful treat.
I order mine online. You can buy a 2 oz. sample and try it. I loved it so much that I bought a whole pound of it. LOL!

I'm glad the recovery time improves over time, but I'm not happy to hear that even you--people who are quite a ways past surgery--still have this happen. This is definitely a huge lifestyle change. People need to realize that presurgery. Although there are so many benefits...i guess it's just something that must be expected, and patiently endured.

That's amazing! I'm pretty jealous! I know an 8 is not in my future ever, but I am pretty content to fit into a size 10 skinny jean at least!

Congrats! I love Lucky. I am trying really hard not to buy any clothes until I am closer to goal so will live vicariously through your new jeans.

That's fantastic! I used to wear a size 50 waist for my work pants. 2wks post op and I was already swimming in them. I was going to be conservative and order a 46 just to make sure they "weren't too small." My wife (the ever so intelligent better half) prompted me to get a 44. Well, she was right. The 44's fit PERFECT!
I can't even imagine how great I'll feel when I can fit in a jean size that is closer to my age.
