My ex-husband and his girlfriend took me along to Disney World and paid for my trip. We have the best family. They rented a house and I had my own room. We also had our two kids, three grandkids and Peggy's three kids. Everyone got along. Eleven of us in our matching 2015 Family Vacation T-shirts. My friends said, Wait, you are going to spend a week with your ex and his girlfriend???? Yep. He paid for me because he said he was trying to make amends for being an ass when we were married. Yep, I'll take it. We are all going on a cruise together in July 2017. You are a good guy, Pirate. You won't have any reason to spend your vacations with your ex-wife.

This surgery was the best thing I have ever done for myself. I had surgery in Jan 2016 and I feel great. I didn't get any of the nausea or other issues.
I can play with my three grandchildren on the floor finally. My knees don't hurt so we can go hiking. I am camping again. I'm not in constant pain.
I'm 62 and I don't care about some hanging skin on my arms. It's just not important anymore. I don't take all the meds I used to need and that is what's important. I CAN eat anything I want, but I don't because I want to remember what got me to 296 pounds. ugh!
Good luck to you all along this path.

After five months, I can eat almost anything in small amounts. I've noticed that I throw away a lot of food without guilt now. We just got home from camping last night. I took yogurts and fruit, fresh cheese ravioli and premade sauce, chicken with fresh mushrooms and zucchini w a box of rice, eggs and pre-cooked Jimmy Dean turkey sausage crumbles. Stuff like that. I packed too much food, I still put too much on my plate, and think I can eat more than I really can. My only advise to you is to stay with what you know you like and can tolerate. Just because we are camping, nothing really changes for us. Take baggies for the leftovers. Plenty of ice to keep everything cold and fresh. Hydrate and remember your Vitamins. Take games and your camera. Enjoy the sounds of children. It's not about the food.. we are living life now.

Stage 3 kidney disease now stage 2(moderate to mild) don't know if it will reduce more but will ck in 2 months on next ck up. hair, was falling out before surgery (age/menopause?) in Jan went with a short cut (always have colored) .

My tips for the liquid diet are just to remember why you are doing it...The doctor told me it was to shrink the liver so he would have room to do his work. This is not just another diet...I looked at it as a way to help my doctor do a good job on my body. I envisioned him trying to move all my fat and innards around trying to staple the right areas. Graphic but it helped me stay strictly on the Protein drinks like my life depended on it and a successful, complication-free surgery and recovery depended on it. Do it for YOU.

I had surgery in January. Sometimes I still wear my old big clothes just because I am not ready to say goodbye yet. Silly. I love being thinner and I love my new clothes that are 4 sizes smaller. it's just hard letting go. I told myself that I don't have to give the clothes away until I am ready. I have already given a lot away but I am holding on to some favorites. Once they are gone, they are gone. PS enjoy the new life.. it's amazing.

It's funny (strange, not haha), but I really went back and forth about that, too. I was torn between putting in my weight as of my first seminar, or my highest known weight that prompted me to make the change. Ultimately I chose the latter because I felt it was an equal part of the journey.

SactoWendy reacted to Dr. Adeyeri in Simple Ways to Fire Up Your Pre- & Post-Op Metabolism at Any Age
Whether you’re young in age or young-at-heart, there are a few key steps you can take to keep your metabolism motor humming so you are blasting away calories at the highest rate possible.

As you age, your metabolism slows down. Older people also tend to have less muscle mass than younger people, which also reduces metabolic rate. This is why we encourage older patients to add light weight-bearing exercise to their fitness routines.
So how do you keep that furnace burning in order to burn calories, even if you’re already achieved your goal weight?
There are many simple tools to accomplish this task. I’ve outlined my favorites below:
    Exercise
This weapon is key to maintaining and increasing metabolism. Seniors, take note−The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends people 65 and older get 2.5 hours of moderate-intensity aerobic activity every week and perform weight-bearing exercises on all the body’s major muscle groups at least twice a week.
At any age, indoctrinate a 30-minute daily work-out, just like brushing your teeth and eating lunch, into your daily routine.
    Sleep
To increase the chances of boosting metabolism, adults should get seven to nine hours of sleep each night. Getting too little shut-eye can significantly alter your body’s processes enough to predispose you to gain weight.
(Do you ever feel hungry for no reason when you’re exhausted and then reach for the wrong foods to boot?)
    De-Stress
When you’re tense, your body releases cortisol, a hormone produced by the adrenal system that is linked to weight gain. It can also significantly weaken your immune system and open the door to acute and chronic illnesses.
Turn to regular physical activity, deep breathing, a quiet evening stroll, or professional help from a psychologist or counselor if you are experiencing chronic stress.
    Eat and Drink
(First and foremost, follow your bariatric practice's instructions on post-op nutrition.)
Eating the right foods−clean Proteins, fruits and vegetables−fuels your metabolism firing on all cylinders. As soon as you awaken, charge-up those calorie burners by feeding them a Protein and a fruit (think omelette with feta cheese, spinach and veggies and a cup of berries).
Eat small meals throughout the day but stop by around 7 p.m.
Staying hydrated is key to maintaining good health. Keep a glass or refillable water bottle with you throughout the day. You are properly hydrated if your urine is nearly clear.
Other than choosing the right foods to eat and finding spiritual solace in your life, these tools serve as a roadmap to good health, including maintaining a healthy weight.
Best of all, once you’ve adopted these tips, you will look and feel better--sooner than you think.

I had gastric on 1-12..one month ago. I've had no troubles, no nausea, and I can eat anything...and I mean anything including sugar. salad and meats are not a problem either as long as I chew well. My concern is that I don't feel the restriction they said I would feel when I started eating solid foods. I have to really be on my game or this isn't going to work for me.
At my two week checkup, the surgeon said I could eat anything. I took him literally and I haven't lost a pound since. Monday I started meal planning and weighing my foods so I can start losing weight again. I have to remind myself that the surgery was a tool and not a fix.

I'm scheduled for Monday! (Jan 18) Eeeekkkk! I started Protein Shakes and Clear Liquids on Monday (the 11th) Today has been my biggest challenge of the week but I didn't cave! I had my grandson today and he asked to have Taco Bueno for lunch. Ugh! Mexican food or anything that resembles Mexican food is my weakness. I had nothing. I got it to go, brought him home and had some Jello and some Water. I am so nervous and now that it's so close I am going through the second guessing all of it. I'm just so afraid I will regret this. That something will go wrong. I think my concerns are "normal". I have to keep reading positive threads. If I read one about complications or regrets I start the 2nd guessing again. 4 more sleeps are all I need to get through to make it to surgery. After that... I will cross that bridge post op!
