  1. Ack! I was told to be off shakes by eight weeks. I couldn't have done it. I was so over shakes! I feel for you. Wonder why they'd rather you do that over real food.
  2. I hate breakfast ( unless it's for dinner lol ). I usually don't eat until the earliest 11 and usually it is more like a snack. Cheese stick and some almonds.
  3. Hi! Yes I had a thyroidectomy in 2005 and have been on levothyroxin since then. I'm 53, post menopause and have lost 44 lbs in sixteen weeks. I never would have thought it possible!
  4. Wow, I'm so sorry for you. I can kind of relate. I got a blood clot and surgery had to be pushed back for three months but it wasn't like I had a date and had done the preop diet. I'd be crushed. I have no advice just feel so bad for you.

    How are people losing 10lbs/month?!

I don't blame you for being frustrated at all. I'm eating low carb and around 1000 calories a day. It really varies but I try not to consume more than 20-30 carbs. My weight loss feels slow compared to some but I'm very pleased so far. I hope your stall breaks soon. I have had many in just three months. Oops, edited to add that I'm just walking and lifting weights (neither vigorously either)

    How are people losing 10lbs/month?!

I just did the math and I'm losing an average of 11 lbs a month. It's just not linear. I'll stall for two weeks and then drop. Just keep doing what you're supposed to and you'll see results.

    Cold Feet

You got this my friend! I know you're scared and you know I was too. Your time has come and I'm so excited for you! Can't wait to hear your journey! Stay strong!
  8. That's what I'm thinking as well. If it's not a thyroid issue something else is going on. I "couldn't lose weight" and was convinced of it, till I went on the preop diet and lost 15lbs in two weeks. I wasn't weighing measuring or tracking food before preop but still thought I was eating well. Clearly I was not. I too wonder if the OP can't lose weight and actually gained on 800-1000 calories how this surgery will help. I'd have my thyroid checked and suggest really looking at what is actually being eaten. The math doesn't add up.
  9. How much weight do you need to lose and by when? How many carbs are you eating? I did low carb (under 20g) and low fat preop and lost 15 lbs. three months out from surgery I do low carb higher fat and have lost 44 lbs I would have to agree to cut carbs significantly to reach your qualifying goal weight for surgery.
  10. What kind of scary ass squirrels live near you? [emoji23]
  11. ~stay off the scale the first month ~all protein is not created equal. Eat real food over shakes and bars when possible ~don't compare yourself to anyone ~if you haven't dealt with your food issues before surgery you'll be faced with them after whether you want to deal with it or not. ~move your body ~I am no different than I was the day before surgery in most ways (which is ok cuz I like me). ~no magic or cure-this is for life and without making the changes I need to nothing will change long term. ~I have no regretted this surgery once, I haven't always enjoyed how I felt, but zero regrets (and zero complications) ~this is a wonderful opportunity that I feel grateful for. This is just my list in two short months. I'm sure I'm missing lots of things. What have others learned?

Gastric Leak for 6 Months - Help!

I've been following your story for a while now. I think I'd rather the bypass over a stent too. So sorry for all of you suffering and hoping that in the end you all end up happy and pain free.
  13. Lol! For real! I was so frustrated and then I found myself deciding that I was agreeing with the things I liked VS the things I didn't (like, woohoo I don't have to exercise even though my surgeon said I should). I realized what I was doing and decided I need to do what my surgeon said. It's amazing how it varies from program to program.
  14. I just had my teeth worked on last month and it was killing me to chew the vitamins and calcium chews. I just started swallowing the vitamins and using liquid calcium citrate for a few days till I could go back to my chewies.

    Fried pork skins

I can't believe I never thought of using them for "breading". A whole new world just opened up! I've been using Parmesan cheese but it lacks the crunch I like. Thanks!

    Surgery regret

    Ugh. So sorry [emoji52]
  18. There have been some interesting side effects post op. I care much more about myself. I've cut my hair to my shoulders (I'm sure I kept it long to "hide"). I've had my nails and toes done. I've bought new clothes, perfume, jewelry. I've gone to the dentist and had some cosmetic work done along with a good cleaning. All of this keeps compounding and helping my self esteem. I laugh and smile more. I move more. I'm friendlier. I wasn't expecting any of these side effects!

Lacking the motivation to even walk...

I had zero energy for two months. It was so frustrating and I have been losing slowly too. But I'm losing and keep losing. Try not to be discouraged. Many people don't exercise for months after surgery. Hang in there. It'll happen.
  23. Start tracking. You need to be sure. That way you can rule it out. I'd still expect fatigue even when meeting goals. Age, healing, blah blah blah it's just part of the process. You'll feel wonderful soon.
