  1. I mix 1 tablespoon Genepro protein powder (30gm protein) in 1/2 cup lactaid milk when I get up. That has just over 30gm protein before I leave the house. I try at meals to eat protein. If I am short at the end of the day, I repeat with another 1/2 c lactaid with another scoop of Genepro. Bottom line, you need your protein.
  2. My goal for this year was to never get on the scale EVER again. I played the scale game for 45 years. If i was down i didn't watch my food, if i was ip i would practically starve myself. When i go to the doc/nut they weigh me. If they are happy, i'm happy. Just went shopping. I was sleeved on 01/14/16. I am down from size 22pants to 18 (i am bottom heavy) and a 2/3X top to an XL. This tells me i am doing well. ????

    Any FEBRUARY sleevers?!

I lost 12.5 in 13 days on the preop liquid diet. Unlike some, my program did not call for a "healthy" meal once a day. Strictly liquids. Just remember, the reason for a preop diet is to shrink your liver for a safer surgery. You owe it to yourself to follow it.

    Hernia repair

I too had a large hiatal hernia repair. It was very painful just to swallow. I had my time off work extended to 4 weeks. I wish I would have researched the hernia repair recovery a little more. It was not an easy recovery for me. I am still wearing the belly binder for support. It was hard to burp because my esophagus was so swollen. My voice sounded funny and eating is still rough. My doctor said it will take 6-8 weeks for the swelling to totally go away.
  5. With each of my 4 pregnancies I went up 1/2 size going from an 8 to a 10. With my new weight loss I hope to be a 9 when I get to goal.
  6. I've been with my husband since I was 15. He has seen me at my highest and my lowest. He is 155 at 5'10". He loves me at any weight. He always buys me a size medium. I was a 2-3X. Love is weird. I have lost 40lbs so far and when I ask if he can tell he tells me no. Unexpectedly it made me happy. This shows me he loves me either way. Relationships will change. You have to remember who you are doing this for and why. For me it is for me and it is so I can get/be healthy so I can be there for my family for a long time.
  7. Lesley-vsg, try the protein powder Genepro fro Amazon. It is 30gm protein in 1 tablespoon. I put it in my morning milk, cream of wheat, yogurt almost anything. It has no taste. I mix 1c chocolate lactaid, 1/2 banana and 2T. Powder. I drink 1/2 in the morning 34gm protein. If I don't get in enough protein thru-out the day, I drink the rest before bed. I get 68 gm protein every day. Having a backup plan is key.
  8. Ouch! I like hearing the "everything was great" stories. Hope your back heals quickly. It's nice to be able to share those stories with our future bariatric family. Things are moving forward for me and i am getting anxious for starting back on my walking program and excited to join the YMCA fir some muscle building. I am scheduled to do (2) 5k runs in April and June and i am going to attempt The Bravado in May with a friend. It is a 3.2mile hike/run, 8mile bike and a 5mi canoe. My friend will have to pull me on my bike, ???? I can do the other two. Due to chrinic back problems I had to cancel on her in may 2014 so my 13 year old did it in my place and even though she was exhausted, she had a BLAST! I encourage everyone to attempt someting different, something out of your comfirt zone, or something you think there is no way in hell you could do it, do it with a friend. You may not be the fastest and may be crawling thru ghe finish line but you will cross thst finish line. I have in the past done a 5k where everything was cleaned up and people were leaving. They thought everyone was done, not me, i still walked thru where the finish line would have been because i didnt do it for anyone but myself. Recruit a friend that will stay by your side and make it to the finish line with you even when everyone else has left. Best of luck in your exciting journey to the new you!
  9. Hello. I was sleeved on 1/14/16. My coworker had the band and the hernia repair done with no problems. Im not sure if my recovery was different be ause i had the sleeve. I too had the hernia repair. Really read up on the procedure and recovery. For me it was more than expected. I had chest pain (they work behind your breastbone) thriat swelling and felt like there was a marble in my throat anytime i swllowed it hurt. Take the pain meds 24/7 during that time. My doc says my esphogus will be swollen for 6-8 weeks. I do feel better now (3wks out) but my voice changes daily due to the swelling. I miss burping. They tighten your esphogus fo there is little air displacement. When you eat and are full, you will know, i feel the need to burp but i dont because i need to remember that it may be the food due to the sleeve. I would do it all again in a skinny minute, just be prepared. Good luck!
  10. Depends on how far out you are. My surgeon gave me the ok at 2 wks to have a scrambled egg if made very moist. I add milk before cooking. I have also blended Noodles and Company's hot pot entree. It tastes better that way. Check with your doctor. I also found Genepro powder supplement that I add to everything! It doesn't taste like anything but you get your protein without having to constantly drink the shakes. 1 tablespoon equals 30gm protein.
  11. I work for a hospital and got nervous before my surgery as well. Talked to the counselor at the hospital the day before and she reminded me that I didn't have to have the surgery, it is my choice. We see people that come into the hospital and are rushed into the OR. She reminded me I WAS IN CONTROL. Yes I was. That calmed me. I have lost 28 lbs since 1/2/16 before the preop diet and 18lbs since surgery on 1/14/16. You will have rough days but it is so worth it. I had the sleeve and my hiatal hernia repaired. I wish I would have been a little more prepared for what to expect for the hernia repair. Live and learn. Breathe and enjoy the ride. It will be worth it!
  12. Just an FYI, my surgeon/the hospital had me remove all polish prior to surgery. Today, i was able to get my pedi (day 11)
  13. I too am bipolar diagnosed almost 10 years ago. Working thru some of my issues including a way too touchy uncle almost 20 years ago. Remember that gaining and losing go hand and hand with the ups and downs of being bipolar. After you are sleeved, if taking meds/vitamins are difficult, take your bipolar meds 1st. My take is if you are not stable your attempts at wls may be compromised. Good luck.
  14. Some of my puree meals; Noodles and Co Hot Pot in the food processor ( which I like better than how it is served at Noodles), stroganoff, and ham and mashed potatoes. I actually like the meals pureed. If you combine the right items you will enjoy it.
  15. Well had my 1 week post op appt. my blood pressure was 120/78. Yea! Can't tell you the last time it was "normal" . My varicose veins do not bulge anymore and they are not glowing blue/purple under my skin. So here is my progress so far. I am 5'7" when I scheduled the surgery in 11/15 I weighed 259. Jan 2, 2016 at start of the pre op diet I was 255. Day if surgery on jan 14, 2016 I was 243. At my 1 week post op appt. I weighed in at 230.4. I am more than happy with my results so far however, i realize I have been on such a low cal diet. I am finally in the puree stage of my recovery. I did have some crab for lunch about 1 oz. i did well with that. Tonite I am going to try 1 oz of hot ham and some mashed potatoes. Chewing the meat until it almost doesn't exist has been ok. I practiced that so much before my surgery. I do still want something to drink with my meal. That takes all of my will power. I think climbing Mt. Everest would be easier to learn than eating without drinking. I just need to remember that I am not putting too many calories into my smaller stomach so I can't drink and push it thru too fast. I need all the nutrients from the food I eat as Possible. Hope everyone is doing well on their journey to a healthy future.
