  1. I lost 37 lbs on the supervised diet. That put my BMI several notches below 40. I was approved based on my starting weight.
  2. I hope it gets better soon. I have a large hiatal hernia that will be repaired with GB RNY surgery on 6/1.
  3. My insurance required a 3 month supervised diet.
  4. @@taracutch Caffeine is a diuretic which is not a good idea when trying to keep fluids on board and caffeine is an irritant this could cause ulcerations.
  5. @@gina171, I asked for a tentative surgery date on my first appt with Dr. Yoo because of work issues. My insurance required a 3 month supervised diet. Here's my timeline: 1/7: Met with Nutritionist, did Psych evaluation and met with Dr Yoo 1/8: blood work, chest X-ray, EKG 2/1: started supervised diet. My bad there, I was slow to get signed up. 3/2: endoscopy. Found an ulcer. Started meds. 5/1: repeat endoscopy. Ulcer gone and finished supervised diet. 5/3: paperwork into Insurance for approval 5/8: approved 5/26: all day pre op meetings 6/1: surgery which was the original date Dr Yoo gave me in Jan. See you on Tuesday! How fun that we get to meet. I'll be the one with the big curly red hair. Hard to miss.
  6. Wow! @@becomingmandikaye Hi! Are you coming to the WSL seminar on Tues too?
  7. I mix a chocolate premier protein shake with the cafe caramel Atkins shake and decaf coffee. Blend it with ice. Filling and super tasty.
  8. @@gina171 Hey, there is a WLS support group meeting this Tuesday at Duke WLS. It starts at 6p. It's free. You can signup online. People who are"veterans of WLS" are going to talk about their experience and take questions.
  9. @@texasbrit10 You are the first in our Group to have the Surgery. Keep us posted. I'm right behind you on 6/1.
  10. Wow this is great! We'll have lots of folks in June for support, advice, celebrating and the occasional whining too!
  11. Each time I read that someone is headed in for their surgery, I get that nervous jangle. Three weeks left for me. It felt so far away when I started the process now, gulp, the time is almost here.
  12. Coconut and the Green tea! The grape isn't bad either.
  13. Look for my thread: June Surgery. We're firming up support for each other having Bypass surgery in June. I'm scheduled for June 1.
  14. Dr. Yoo is doing my surgery. I liked that he did my endoscopy as well so he's seen the inside as well as the outside!
  15. I have my RNY surgery scheduled at Duke on 6/1. So far during the preop period, everyone in their Office has been great. I dropped off my FMLA paperwork at 10a and they called me at 12n to say it was done and ready to be picked up. The WLS Support classes each month are well attended and the topics have been interesting. My Surgeon has responded to any email I've sent him promptly. I've been happy so far.
  16. @@selenarp I'm in Pittsboro, right near Chapel Hill.
  17. I don't know about approval with revisions. I'm taking a month off work but I have a job that requires lifting and being on your feet for 12 hour shifts.
  18. Pittsboro, right near Chapel Hill.
  19. I water down some Isopure zero carb drinks and make my own Popsicles.
  20. I like the Isopure zero carb: coconut and green tea flavors. Premier protein shakes and Atkins shakes: caramel cafe or cookies and cream.
  21. I've been low carbing for the last 3 months during my required 3 month supervised diet. It definitely helped with my sugar cravings. I tried a bunch of different protein shakes. I've lost 34 pounds. I'll have one week of liquids prior to surgery and of course, nothing after 12a the night before. I'm 54, so the saggy skin thing worries me too but I would consider plastic surgery if I was really bothered by it. We'll see. One step at a time, right?
