YAY! So, I have had to annoy my surgeon's office since Feb 8th to submit my file to insurance. Seriously. My surgeon was just named the Chief of Surgery at the hospital, so his workload has doubled. It took him 6 weeks to approve my surgery, then it took another 3 weeks for the office to submit it to insurance. They only have one person who submits to insurance and works on getting approvals. She was on vacation, so it sat in the office. But at least we're moving in the right direction
I was already told I'm on the schedule for June 15th, if insurance approved it on time. Yes, the waiting is awful but I'm using the time to mentally prepare for this!

I'm one week post op and guess what? I can already feel my Adam's apple, cross my legs without physically lifting them with the help of my hand AND wrap my fingers on one hand around my wrist of the other. It's absolutely overwhelming and I know it's mostly Water weight but it just feels so incredible. Small Victories right? Share yours!

Yaaay! Good for you. I started off pretty similar, wanted to do lap band for a long time but when I met with my surgeon he thought the sleeve would be the best for me and I agree! I'll be 6 weeks out on Friday and I've never felt better.

No, BCBSIL didn't give any further info about treatment length. Doubt they would either.
However ... My surgeon's office called me today to say that they resubmitted my preauthorization request - and it was APPROVED! If I were a cynical person I would think that the insurance company had purposefully rejected me in December in order to push me out into a new plan year with reset deductibles, etc., especially since the rejection and subsequent approval happened over the span of 3 weeks. ???? I think having an official dx of high cholesterol was key so definitely get your medical conditions formally diagnosed and part of your medical record. Fingers crossed for you!
How is that hospital pre-certification suppose to work? Do you have to call BCBSIL? Or does the surgeon? The hospital? My plan has $300 hospital co-pay as well but I would obviously love to have it waived if possible.

I just got my date scheduled, it's Feb. 26th...i think it's the perfect way to end one month and start another!

It's going fast for me.. I went for my consultation on 1/20/16. With my insurance, and possible yours (I'm PPO) they don't require a medical assisted diet. So I was told around the end of February to beginning of March is when I will have surgery (if everything comes back good for all my testing). And my mouth dropped. They scheduled all of my test that day except my EGD test.. which will be scheduled as soon as my EKG test clears. First they sent me downstairs after my consultation for labs. I had to blow into a bag.. drink something that tasted like lemonade.. then wait 5 mins and blow into another little bag, and they took blood work. My Radiology/Ultrasound tests, and Psychology appointments were on 2/3/16. My EKG/Stress tests, and Nutrition class are tomorrow morning 2/8/16. My At Home sleep Study test is on 2/11/16. She said they will be submitting my paperwork next week to insurance.. and I'm like WOW.. I knew I wouldn't have to jump through so many hoops but this is so fast I'm getting nervous. And I made a post asking a similar question and many told me how fast the process went for them, and it's no joke.. with my experience. My Radiology test came back good, and I was cleared by my Psychologist. So warning.. don't be surprised if this process goes fast. Good Luck to you!

I went for my first doctors appt on 12/10. Did psych eval, nutrition visit, lab work... Submitting tomorrow. BMI is 37 and I have osteoarthritis. My labs showed high cholesterol, ldl and prediabetic. We shall see. I'm hoping this happens. I'm very nervous. Hoping for late March/early April surgery date.

My surgery is scheduled for 2/26. So far only hubby and my mom know. Both FULLY supportive. Right now only 4 key people at work know I am going be in medical leave for 3 weeks but I didn't say why. HR won't ask and to the rest I just say that I'm a private person. We had 3 people go on medical leave last year (ranging from 3 weeks to 4 months) so people just chalk it up to our department being "unlucky".

I just got the call yesterday that I was approved by BCBSIL! (They initially denied me in December.) Official surgery date not yet set but office said it would be end of Feb or beginning of March. I need a cardio clearance appt date and then they will schedule my surgery date. My surgeon requires a 2 week full liquid pre-op diet.
Excited and a bit overwhelmed.

Just came back from my Nut appt. it went well. My lab results are back. I have cholesterol and hga1c slightly high. LDL is high and low vit D. Between that and my Hx of arthritis I'm hoping is enough for insurance approval. My weight keeps creeping up. It was 196 when I first went and it's 202 today. Ugh!!! Can't wait to get started on this process. They require a 2 week pre op diet. I have another appt with NUT at beginning of February and also a Endoscopy.
So it's looking like it will be end of March/beginning of April for me.
