I got insurance approval the same day she turned it in. It was literally minutes after she hit submit, we had an answer. I'm sure each insurance program is different with their turn around times. As far as knowing a timeline for surgery, I just called my office and asked her when I could anticipate surgery so I could work on childcare for my kiddos. I have my surgery in 10days.

Congrats! I also have my surgery date for April 7th. Have you began your pre-op diet yet? Or was that not required of you?

I finished my pre op stuff today and called the surgeon's office to report in, and the gal asked if I wanted to schedule my pre op for her! I have to do a gallbladder ultrasound and an EKG and labs. She also gave me a tenitive surgery date of April 7!!
I was so excited at the beginning of this but now having a possible surgery date, I'm scared out of my mind! All the research and studying I've done has helped, but the "realness" has suddenly hit me. Anybody else go through this? Any words of encouragement besides to just chill and follow the plan?
    Thanks in advance!

I am from Sacramento, CA. My surgery date of April 19th just got pushed back to April 25th. I'd rather had it moved up, but I'm still good to go in April. No more setbacks!

Hello to you in Iowa! You are one of he very few who got this lucky to not have the liquid diet. A friend of mine didn't have to either. I'm a bit jealous lol. I had 5 months of tons of testing including gyne, stress test, endoscopy, labs, EKG, echocardiogram, sleep study 2 of them! It was crazy all I had to do. Glad that's all over. I have a broken foot so I couldn't do my stress test on a treadmill so they injected this stimulant into an iv and omg it was awful. It raced my heart gave me an instant headache made me sweaty and made me nauseous! Never again!

I only told a few friends before I was approved also. My surgery is set for 4/13 and it is unbelievable the emotional roller coaster you go on when you get approved. The people I told I know will be the most supportive and the others can go somewhere else LOL!!! Sent from my LGUK410 using the BariatricPal App

I haven't told anyone, except my husband, what my plans are. I simply don't want to hear the negative response I will get. Have/will you told anyone? I mean, it's not a huge secret, I just don't want to deal with stupid.

The PFT is a four part test that requires you to breathe through a tube into a computer. It measures your lung function and capacity.
I started everything Jan3, 2016. I have one Dr weigh in left and then a preop apt with my surgeon. I was told that if everything is good, i'll have surgery in April. He doesn't require the crazy 2-4wk liquid diet and I'm so relieved! Good luck to you on your journey!

Ok so today I went shopping because my size 12 jeans were getting fairly loose. I went to my favorite place to buy jeans since having WLS. Lucky Brand Jeans.
I grab a pair of sweet and straight jeans in a size 10 and I am grinning from ear to ear because I am confident they are going to fit and I love that feeling. I have not fit into jeans this small since I was a teenager.
I put them on and I am right! They fit fantastic! I come out of the dressing room and model for hubby who promptly says, those look a little big. Maybe you should think about a smaller size.
I the immediately say "no way!" An 8 is not going to fit me. I am honestly not sure if I have ever worn a size that small. I decide to encourage him and prove there is no way I will get them up.
I grab an 8 and head back into the dressing room. I look at this tiny pair of jeans and go, here goes nothing. They fit perfectly! I could hardly believe my eyes.
Then the sales clerk tells me that they are buy one get one half off but she says the darker dyes seem to be more forgiving so she gives me an 8 and a 6 to try on. I laughed but thought well just see how far off you are.
Well, I put the 6 on, buttoned them up and stood there in shock. Now, I didn't buy the 6 because although I could wear them, I do like my jeans to be comfortable and have a little room.
So when I started this journey I wore 24 jeans and 26/28 tops. I am now in a size 8 and a medium or large top. Sometimes I have to get the large because I have a lot of loose skin.
I cannot believe where I am today! For me, clothes shopping is when I can really see the thinner me.

countryrose reacted to MichiganChic in Anyone women who started 350+ who have reached goal weight?
I wasn't over 350, and I'm a few pounds away from a normal BMI, so I don't quite fit your criteria, but I think I can offer something to the conversation.
My highest recorded weight was 325, and I'm short, so I do know what it's like to be super morbidly obese. I was 306 when I started the process (had lost about 75 pounds on WW 5 years before and only gained back 50 - I can't explain that!). I also felt a little discouraged that even when I had lost 100 pounds, I still had more to go. I saw people being sleeved who weighed less than me when I had lost that much! I'm not sure why, but at the time, it made me still feel like the fattest girl in the room.
I have learned that it IS possible to succeed, even if we do start at a much higher weight. I think there may be more and different challenges for us. For most people, the weight comes off easiest in the early months. You have to go out of your way to not lose. The hardship comes in the fact that human beings can't usually lose more than about 120-150 pounds in a year. When you have 200 or more to lose, you quickly realize that your peers are passing you by. It took me 14 months to lose 145 pounds, and I'd still like to lose that last 10ish pounds. But I'm going to need to work really, really hard to do that because my body likes this weight.
Here is another lesson I learned - I am way better off than I was, with every pound lost. I am my ONLY competitor. I see this as a competition I'm in with only myself. So, I continue to win as long as I maintain my loss. That's a hard thing to live when you are trying so hard and it feels like you will never "get there". I'm here to tell you that even though I'm "not there", I have SO ARRIVED!
The moral of my story is that I was super morbidly obese for 30 years, and overweight or obese the rest of it, except for 5 minutes in the 80s. I lost a total of more than half my body weight (from highest weight) and 145 of it with the sleeve in 14 months. I've kept it of about a year and a half, and that is a fight every day. I wear a size medium top and an 8 pants. I look way younger, and feel way better than I have in years. I have my life back and it holds so much promise. So while I still wish I could lose a little more, when I look at where I started, I am better off. I had to stop comparing myself to others and start comparing me to myself to gain a true understanding of my accomplishment.
The short version of all that is that you can succeed, one pound at a time, just like anyone!
