So I measured my calf when I went home at lunch. It's still 16.75 inches (really pushing closer to 17") at 159 pounds. The "good" news is that my lower thigh is now smaller than my calf? I can get my hands all the way around my lower thigh now, with the tips of my middle fingers and tips of my thumbs touching, but I still can't do that with my calf.

I've always had very large muscular calfs. Now I'm in the misses sizes I find it to be the most difficult part of buying jeans. I had 2 Achilles surgeries on my right leg and ended up in a cast for 6 weeks after each surgery. That calf is actually 2 inches smaller than the left one. Mine are pure muscle so I don't anticipate them getting too much smaller as I lose more weight.

My calves (and knees) are also large. Yes, they're smaller now than 100 pounds ago. But the fat on my calves (at 135 pounds) is still noticeable.
But given everything else that's so much better now, I'm not sweating it much.

I will have to measure my calves today when I go home for lunch. I stopped tracking my measurements when I got to goal and started just maintaining, but I am training for a half marathon now, so I am sure that's had SOME effect on my calf size. The first time I took my measurements at one week pre-op, I weighed 239.2 and my calves measured 19.5 inches. The last time I took my measurements was 13 months post-op. I weighed 163 and my calves measured 16.75 inches. I now weigh 159 and run more than 20 miles a week, so it will be interesting to see where I am now. I'm wearing my wide calf boots as I type this and they are still fitting pretty snug.

I can only fit in normal, knee-high boots when I am under 140. I started at 237 and I had mailman calves- thick, muscled, calves. As I dropped weight, I did a lot of running so I still had big calves, but they were slightly leaner. They still didn't fit into boots. It was only when I dropped beneath 140 that regular boots fit me and I tend to wonder if part of the reason for that is I was doing a lot of walking (recovering from plastics) as opposed to running and the muscle size was reduced. Some of us just have annoyingly thick calves, but at least for me they did eventually drop in size to a point where I can wear boots. As an NSV, this year when Target put all of their boots on clearance, I ended up getting about 8 pair. Part of the reason involved the fact that I was totally stoked that they all fit me, lol.

I started at 18.25 inch calves and one calf is now 15 and the other is 14.75. I have lost 90 pounds since surgery. I am still in plus sized horse riding boots for most brands but not the xxw. I have always had muscular calves even when I was a teenager and at goal weight. My mom had chicken legs so I am not sure where I got my calves from.

Because calf muscles work, they are generally more developed than other muscles even in people who are more sedentary than not. Yours will slim down at least somewhat and probably have already begun in that direction. Don't lose sight of the fact that it's overall weight loss that you want.

At least they haven't gone up in size. Based on measurements mine actually went up a bit but I have been going to the gym more than before and exercising.

I'm basing this on my yo-yo dieting days because I'm still pre-op, but:
When I've lost a lot of weight in the past, I've gone from not able to wear any boots to being able to wear wide-calf boots. I have muscular legs and used to cycle a lot. It's the one area of my body that doesn't get slender when I lose weight, much to my chagrin. YMMV.

My calves are still huge. I wear size 10 jeans. I am 6 pounds below goal and still have to wear wide-calf boots. Oh well.... there are worse things in life. Talk about #firstworldproblems!

Hello my name is Tina and I live in Oklahoma. I am currently 359 pounds and in desperate need of surgery but my insurance refuses to cover the procedure. I am considering a self pay option with Dr. Kim in Texas. Has anyone had surgery with him and what was your experience. Any information will
    Be most appreciated.

I was also sleeved on 12/28. I had gas pain, no drains, and some sharp pains when eat Popsicles etc. other than that I feel good. My procedure was outpatient so I've been home since 6p Monday. I think everyone's experience is unique to that person. As for the weighing I have weighed myself also. I think we should wait until at least week 3, swelling should be down etc. I hope this helps!

I would love for you to pray with me. I am trying desperately to get the sleeve surgery without help from my insurance. It is very expensive but if I do not find a way to have it. I will not be around for my 5 year old son and my husband. I am praying for guidance. Thank you for your offer to pray. I am a strong believer in the power of prayer. Thank you and God bless.
