LPNAshley got a reaction from Stephinae Howard in 30-rule?
I don't necessarily chew 30 times and I can't always not drink 30 minutes before eating. I never know when I'll get a break at work. But ABSOLUTELY 30 minutes after. It only took one time of forgetting. Results were not pretty!

I agree that there's no need to beat yourself up over something that's already done. And no, I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV. However, I am a registered nurse, and I have to take exception to some of the things being said here.
The post-operative diet progression instructions are given for VERY good reason - the patient's healing and SAFETY. As my surgeon says, it's a little surgery on the outside, but a VERY BIG surgery on the inside. The entire length of your stomach has an incision with staples and has to heal. Eating things outside your surgeon's post-op diet progression orders is not "cheating" on a diet, it's violating your prescribed post-op instructions, and it can have very serious consequences. Anyone saying that there's no reason to worry, simply doesn't know what they're talking about.
It is very true that many people can eat things not on their post-op diet orders and not suffer any consequences. But it is also very true that a few can suffer leaks or abscesses that can land them in the ICU or worse because of it. We are not being overly dramatic when we say these things.
@@huskergirl1972, it is more likely than not that you have suffered no damage from this. However, it's important that you understand the gravity of deviating from your doctor's diet progression orders for the first several weeks post-op. Until your surgeon has cleared to a full diet, your incision has likely not healed, and you are vulnerable to complications. Your surgeon can tell you specifically what to look for in terms of complications, but the biggies are very sharp pain that is much worse than the pain you've had so far post-op (and usually very localized to one spot), very fast heart rate, dizziness (especially when standing up) and fever. If you develop those symptoms you should call your team and consider going to the ER.
The post-op diet is hard, especially the first couple of weeks when it's liquids only. But it is only a short time, and it is for your safety. Please work very hard to follow your surgeon's instructions closely until released to a full diet.

LPNAshley got a reaction from Lema in Anemia despite high dosages of iron
Not speaking as a vet or newbie, just as a nursing student. It has been pounded into my brain throughout school that Iron is best absorbed with Vitamin C. Don't know if it would make a difference in your levels but if you can stomach OJ it might be worth trying.

Glad I am not a newbie taking your advice. This is just my opinion and I am positive you could care less, but just because it turned out ok for you doesn't mean it will for the next newbie who does it.
This is a forum, and there are people who have been through this, some for many years. They are going to share experiences and concern when they see posts like this. Most folks responding her are concerned and asked her to contact her surgeon.
No where did I see anyone be mean about it. Every post was trying to help her see that she might consider getting some help to deal with WHY, she did this because at this point, her tummy is likely fine but will it be the next time? or the time after that?
It is clear that you don't care what others think when it doesn't agree with your point of view based on your vulgar responses.
I am older with 2 grown boys and 2 teenage granddaughters. I certainly hope they are not as vulgar when trying to get their point across. I would wash their mouth out with soap.

LPNAshley got a reaction from MTWilliams in Dr. Does not stand by choice
A surgeon and his team would be able to give you guidelines about pregnancy too. My rules were no getting pregnant for two years post op. More than enough time to heal and be able to nutritionally support a developing life. Every doctor is different, of course, but most will say that this surgery increases your chances of having a healthy, uncomplicated pregnancy.

Even from veggies. They can get stuck in incisions and cause all kinds of problems. It's not stick to liquids because we're trying to be mean. It's so that your body has time to heal.

I don't understand how you equate not going out or not eating applebees to someone is starving themselves. Those are not the only options. You absolutely CAN go out with friends and not eat. It's a choice. Congrats on the weight loss so far. It's great. But this period of time doesn't last and it's the CHOICES you continue to make that will dictate how much you lose and if it stays off. People here will give great advice but it's not necessarily sugarcoated.

Well mushed veggies aren't a full liquid. You could ask them to strain a Soup for you and just have the broth?
