@@IrishGermanRN I had Pasta with chicken and a crab cake ontop in a lemon creme sauce... With salad and BREADsticks.... Bye bye to my long loving relationship with bread... And carbs in general. You're almost done! Are you taking your Vitamins? Funny thing was I felt super healthy the whole time I was on my pre surgery diet. Enjoy your last few days being able to drink diet soda and chug Water. Almost every time I drink now I get rumbling gas pains, I have to relearn how to drink without taking in air too.

I'm scheduled next week the 20th. Completing day 11! I"m suprised at how well I'm doing with it. Since I have an unfilled band in place, I'm wondering if that is helping. I have no restriction though so I could eat a whole pizza if I wanted. The day I got my unfill, I knew I was going to start the liquid phase the next day. So i had everything I could not have with my band. Fries were my number one go to and with the band i couldnt keep them down.
So bye bye fries for a loooooongg time.

You don't mention purees in the food choices you're so tired of. Throw some cooked chicken in the blender with some chicken broth and unflavored Protein powder. Throw canned tuna in the blender with broth and plain yogurt.
And of course you can stand it for a couple more days. You worked hard to earn the privilege of all these liquids, and they're the means to an end. You've got this.

Hi there, I am scheduled for surgery on 1/12. This is my fifth day on the pre-op diet and everyday for me is getting easier. I struggled for the first couple of days but now the hunger has subsided. My only problem is those darn commercials triggering my mind to want some real food. I have been drinking the Premier Protein shakes and they don't taste bad at all. Maybe you should try it.

I'm getting the revision too. My band slipped. Then decided to have it removed as it was not giving me any restriction and with all the fills. Then I learned to eat around the band. I was always hungry. If Protein did not go down.. I would eat things that did.
I've learned so much since deciding to proceed with the revision. Proteins first.
I would get so frustrated with the band. eat Proteins. chew chew chew to then slime. And this would be a year out. Band tight during stress or anxiety. getting an unfill then a fill. I would stop eating when I felt a little tight after a few bites but still be hungry!! Then I would wait for the food to go down and take a few more bites. By NIght time I could eat whatever I wanted.
Looking forward to a better tool!

Hello Everyone. I have my revision scheduled for the 25th of this month. I am currently 220lbs, 5.5" and plan on being around 215 lbs the day of surgery.
My question is, will the sleeve help me reach my goal of 150 lbs. I have seen a lot of posts of lower 200's not loosing very much with the sleeve (when it is a revision). Looking for personal experiences and insight! Thanks :)

Hi everyone! I'm getting sleeved on 1/26. I started my liquid pre op diet today and...UGH. I am already sick of sweet things (I'm looking at you Protein shakes!). The only thing that I can have that is savory is Nutrifast cream of chicken Soup or broth. Man, this is going to be a long two weeks. Hoping tomorrow is better! And maybe it will get a little easier once I can see the scale moving down

I avoid simple carbs. I do eat a lot of vegetables and some complex carbs (fruit, Beans, some grains) in moderation. I avoid Pasta, rice, and bread. I don't count or limit my carbs, but I think I've only gone over 100 g once since my surgery over seven months ago. The vast majority of days I'm under 80.
I'm not sure I could stick to an ultra-low-carb diet for very long and am glad my surgeon's office recommends a more balanced approach, even though I haven't lost as fast as some of the ultra-low-carb folks. The balanced approach seems like something I could keep up with indefinitely. Plus carbs don't unleash the "carb monster" in me like they do a lot of people.

Since undoing low carb at the moment this is really relevant to me. I've found doing low carb helps me break the sugar addiction I've fallen into the past few months but also, obviously, for me I lose weight faster.
With that said I ALSO have to be very mindful of calories knowing that for me to lose I have to be somewhere around 1000 a day. To maintain somewhere around 1350 or less.
I started this last Tuesday and have lost about 9 lbs in that time. Quite amazing to me but I know a lot is Fluid retention from the holidays.
My carbs are primarily eggs, hard cheese (light mini baby bel) and chicken. Small amount of beef. I try to keep the veggies to low carb kind with a few small amounts of carrots thrown in once in a while.
For me the hardest is fruit. I LOVE fruit. I was amazed to see on my MFP how many carbs a small banana had!! ????. I do usually have a half a Fuji apple with 1 tablespoon PB2 at night for a snack. I've also had a couple cuties which are not as high in carbs
Once I get really under control and re-lose my 15 lbs I will gradually add back more carbs BUT not like before where it was a free for all.
I need more fats at the moment but scared to add much since this seems to be working for me.
Oh, yeah, and I'm doing REALLY low cal couple days a week (500) twice weekly as part of semi-5:2 intermittent fasting which has worked well for me in the past.
Oh, yeah, and I'm 5 1/2 years out from Sleeve

I'm still early in the game(sleeved 12/08/15) so I try to limit my carbs to dairy only. I am a type-1 diabetic on an insulin pump so unfortunately, some carbs are almost a necessity for me. Those are mainly in milk and/or Greek yogurt form, which are fairly low. I am allowed to have saltine crackers with my tuna, rice, grits or oatmeal, etc. on this phase in the diet, but I haven't because I feel like that would be a slippery slope for me.

I am all about balance. My nut taught me from the very beginning that you need to focus on a balanced plate of food. Fruits and vegetables are a part of that balanced plate.
I use myfitness pal to track my Protein, calories and carbs. I know exactly where I need to be consistently to lose weight. I will soon figure out where I need to be to maintain. I think maintenance for me will be somewhere around 1300 calories, less than 100 grams of carbs and between 70 and 85 grams of Protein, not in that order.
I do try to select good carbs everyday but I also have to be realistic, there are times when I do indulge. Those Cheezeits or a tiny piece of cheesecake once in a while is not going to kill me.

I love carbs, lol. When I started the sleeve diet I knew I would not be willing to give up carbs for the rest of my life and that if I lost all of the weight on a strict low-carb diet the chance that I gained it back quickly when I went back to carbs was high. As such, I ate carbs the entire time I was losing and while I probably lost slower, I can now eat pretty much whatever carbs I want without worrying about gaining. To be accurate, I don't eat Pasta mostly because it makes me sick and I rarely eat bread, I do however eat crackers most days, oatmeal and granola for Breakfast, and other things that have a good degree of carbs in them. When consumed in moderation, I see nothing wrong with carbs and in hindsight I am glad that I didn't follow the Protein ONLY diet that I have heard people talk about because I would never be able to sustain that in the long term. Also, I found that while I was losing and even now, carbs are the sole source of energy that gets me through hard workouts. They have a solid place in my diet and in the weight loss I have attained and maintained.
    So, I <3 carbs!

I have no problem with carbs in the form of fruit or Beans, etc. I do when it is not something I can justify in terms of getting other nutrients. A banana is still a better thing than chocolate. A carrot is better than a piece of bread.< /p>
I don't see them as good or bad just which is the healthier choice I can make overall?

Hey! I'm having my sleeve done on Jan 20th, also at the OCC! I'm also doing the 2 week liquid diet thing, and it super sucks for me I haven't lost an ounce since I started liquids last Wednesday (lost 14 lbs right before that though on the atkins-esque pre-pre op diet), and I'm starving all the time. I think I'm winning the head hunger games though since i'm not cracking! KEEP THE EYE ON THE PRIZE. See you in 8 days!

So, today I had my two week post op appointment at the surgery center where I started my journey.

    I left quite excited.

We'll just start off with the stats and then will come the feels.
    Sw: 281
    Preop: 264
    Surgery day: 252
    Today: 241
I went in a little apprehensive about how I was doing so far. To my discredit, I started on soft foods a little early, at day 10 instead of day 12, just because strained Soup was really going to be the ******* death of me. So there I am in the waiting room, trying to be cool, looking down at my stomach like man, I really could have gone without that cottage cheese yesterday. I was sweating over what the scale might say; that it was going to out my head start into phase ll foods and that obviously I was failing.

I've been worried and wrong before, and today was no exception.

When I walked into the room, the MA weighed me in and ta da! I was 241.2 lbs. That is 10.8 lbs lighter since surgery two weeks ago. I'll take it! The doctor then came in and proceeded to tell me that since I first visited (weighing in at a whopping 281 lbs) I lost 40 lbs. 40 ******* pounds. Uhm, can I just say go me? Because gooooo me! I was thrilled. On top of 40 lbs lost, as for the percentage of my excess weight needed lost to reach a healthy BMI given my height of 5'7, I lost 28% of my excess. I went from needing to lose 141 lbs to only needing to lose 101 lbs.

Now don't get me wrong, 100 lbs is still a lot. But it's less than what I started at. Today, I am half way to reaching my first goal of 200 lbs. I really hope to make that goal within the first few months post op. Ideally by my next check up, scheduled at the end of February. That seems like a pipe dream to me still, but if I can remain dedicated and smart about using my VSG tool, I know I can do it.

Here's a little thing that's bugging me though. I can't see the loss of 40 lbs yet. I recognize my clothes are getting a little baggier, and right at this very moment, I'm wearing a pair of jeans I bought last year to have them just now fit comfortably, but I still see the almost 300 lb girl looking back at me in the mirror everyday. Being a woman lustful for instant gratitude, and high impatience, it upsets me. I know it's gone. 40 lbs is gone. But from where? I think it's just that I'm used to seeing myself everyday (and because Im kindaaa a narcissist, all day.) My mom makes the comment, look how skinny you are! And I see her about every two or three days. So, It's just me. Even the doctor said she barely recognized me and that I've done "marvelous" so far. The fat girl in me just assumed she was stroking my ego.

Still. I feel good. And I'm ready to keep losing more more moreeeee!

another vote for premier Protein. Even 4 years out, i have a hard time hitting the targets without it.
You can also do Protein Bars - but warning - the high carb content and candy like nature of many of them can give you problems over the long run. For now, might be a good way to get you to your Protein targets though. My target is now 80-100 g which is WORK even with a "mature" sleeve.

I was having the same problem as you pre surgery. I ended up finding the Premier Protein shakes at costco that are pre- made. In the beginning before surgery I would just gulp it down all at once and fingers crossed hope to keep it down. As I got use to it I actually started to enjoy them. They have 30'grams of Protein and 1 gram of sugar.
