flat butt blues - shapewear recommendations?
kaitlynm replied to CowgirlJane's topic in The Gals' Room
Any suggestions for swimsuits? I tried some on in the store last week and the pancake butt looked really sad. Kind of takes the fun out of getting a new much smaller suit. -
Blue Shield CA and the insurance update
kaitlynm replied to Shanni1269's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would talk to the surgeon and tell him about her behavior. It is his office and reputation and he needs to control his staff. If that doesn't work, then switch surgeons. -
Like the poster before me I wish I could have gone home the same day. The hospital that my insurance required me to stay in was horrible. I got no sleep whatsoever because they were shredding paper outside my room all night long. The nurses did not respond to equipment alarms that we're going off constantly. It was a horrible experience. When I finally got released I think I sprinted to the car to get out of there. The only sleep I got in 3 days was the surgery itself.

Can't wait to start enjoying shopping
kaitlynm replied to csawesome's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm not sure anyone looses evenly. It depends on your body type from the beginning. I know I have lost in my butt and there wasn't anything back there to loose. My stomach is shrinking but not nearly as fast as I would like. I went from a tight size 24 and 3x to a 14 / 16 now. I'm an XL in tops. I was buying jeans in all sizes on the way down and it got really expensive because I was going through clothes so fast. I'm holding pretty steady right now so I went to the outlet mall and got some spring/summer clothes. I still have 50 pounds to loose, but I don't think it is going to come off nearly as fast as before. Have fun with your clothes shopping on the way down. It is great to shop at the regular sizes again. -
An Unbelievable Day: JOY...!

That is great news. Just think how much money you will have to spend on new clothes since you won't be buying prescription drugs. -
Pretty dinner plate?
kaitlynm replied to Nurse_Lenora's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I still have trouble judging my serving size and put too much on my plate. I must admit that my dogs love it because they get the leftovers. They are the first rinse cycle in the washing process. -

Wow, congratulations! It is great to discover things that we can do now and couldn't before. I have been walking and doing cardio classes and today I decided that I should try and jog to get my heart rate up. I was shocked at how easy it was for me. Love the new fitness level.

For those who have already been sleeved...
kaitlynm replied to tailor-made's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had already met my max out of pocket when I had the surgery so I didn't have to pay any additional amount to the hospital or surgeon for the surgery. I did have to pay $300 for the psych evaluation and another $200 for the nutrition class that insurance did not cover. I also saw a claim to my insurance for $2800 that was denied because the assistant surgeon was not in network. My surgeons office has never asked me to pay that bill, but I'm still kind of worried that it will come up. I will fight that however since I didn't get to choose the assistant and can't believe he would use someone not in my network. My insurance's negotiated rate for the Surgeon was only $1200 and they only paid the hospital $1500 for the operating room and the one night stay. The insurance did make me go to a really bad hospital however. I find it interesting that for less than $3000 they fight this type of surgery so much when I have already saved that amount in not needing prescription drugs. -

October List of Surgery's
kaitlynm replied to 60&goin4it's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow @@anewme2015, you have lost almost 100 pounds since Oct! I wish I was doing that well. I think you are loosing plenty fast and 165 seems like a dream to me. I was only 10 pounds heavier at my surgery date but no where near 165 today. -
I was going for thin and crispy, but that isn't what I got. Maybe it was because I did cook the cauliflower first and not wring the Water out of it. Not sure I will try it again however because I could not get past the cauliflower taste either. Funny, because I actually like cauliflower. I noticed it was pretty liquid when I spread it out but I thought it was because I added too much egg white. Good to know about it not keeping as well. I guess I will just have to splurge on the real thing a couple of times a year. I was so happy when they opened a Gino's east in my neighborhood last year here in Texas, and now I can't enjoy it.

Has anyone else experienced this
kaitlynm replied to HippyChick73's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wouldn't cancel the trip just yet. I think the excitement of getting surgery scheduled gives you a boost and makes you want to jump start that diet. It may not last long term. Most people either react in one of two ways before surgery; loose weight by starting to diet before the surgery, or gain because they want to eat all of their favorite foods before they can't any longer. Hopefully you are in the first group. I lost 18 pounds between my first visit with the surgeon and my surgery date. Now 5 mos post op I still have cravings for sugar and have to work really hard to stay on track. Hope everything goes well for you and good luck with your decision. -
I think someone else already said it, but just put up with the NUT to get their sign off. Luckily I only had one encounter with the NUT at my Surgeons office. It was a required group meeting and all she did was read from the bariatric manual that my Doc provides. I had to pay $100 for that! Total waste of time and money, but at least I got the sign off. Try the high protein, low carb and fat diet. That is what you will be doing the rest of your life so you might as well get used to it now. It is not so bad once you get used to it. The ultimate goal is the surgery, and it sounds like there are a lot of not so competent NUTs out there.

October List of Surgery's
kaitlynm replied to 60&goin4it's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was Oct 13. HW 286, SW 268, and CW 199. I feel like I'm not getting anywhere lately (the last month). I have only lost 2 pounds in the last month and no matter what I do I just can't seem to get the scale to move. I eat about 1000 calories per day because I work out 2 hours every day. (Intense Cardio). I get 100g of protein per day and drink at least 70 oz of water. I did so well up until the middle of Feb, and then now just nothing. I have started adding more weights into my workouts. I understand that there is stalls, but this seems crazy. I still have 55 pounds to loose, and I'm not going to make my 6 month goal of 190 set by the surgeon. Anyone else having this problem? -
Great job! I walk 6 miles a day and just started jogging for one minute every 5 of the walk. I can't push it too much because of bad knees, but it sure is easier now than before the weight loss.

Did Your Doctor and/or Surgeon Give You Confidence?
kaitlynm replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My GYN is also my PCP and he is actually the one who recommended the surgery to me. We tried all kinds of other methods and nothing worked. We worked out at the same gym every morning so he knew it wasn't related to lack of exercise. He and I have had a really good relationship for 8 years now. My Surgeon is also very good. I'm not quite as comfortable around him, but I wouldn't say that he intimidates me. He helped me make an informed decision, and gave me lots of facts about the different options for WLS. I have had no complications so I haven't seen him much post op. I went for my 3 month and he said I was doing great and to come back in 6 months. -
I just discovered syntrax nector protein drinks. Each pkg is 23g of protein with no fat or carbs. It is more like crystal light and you mix it with water. I get mine on Amazon.

I don't think it is a cheat at all. There is a book "the bariatric foodie guide to perfect protein shakes" sold on Amazon for around $12. This book has great recipes using protein shakes, sugar free flavoring syrups, sugar free instant pudding, and other items. They have some great recipes in there. My favorite is the butterfingers candy bar drink. I make it with ice to have consistency like a milk shake. Yum!

Nausceos from water
kaitlynm replied to nervousnelly719's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't have this problem but someone in my support group does. He has to add crystal light to all his water to drink it. I believe he also has to have it really cold. -
We are almost exactly the same. I think you are doing fine. If you are like me, your just impatient. I'm still looking for a magic pill where all the weight is gone over night. I find that I am the most hungry when I'm bored. I know that has to be head hunger, but don't know a good way to stop it. When I'm super busy I have to remind myself to eat something.
