One thing you can do is make sure almost everything you consume has Protein. My surgeon allowed all fluids to count toward my 64 oz of Fluid.
As mentioned, Premier Protein gives you a lot of protein for a small amount of Fluid. My surgeon said there was no physical reason we couldn't drink three premier Protein shakes (total of 90 grams of protein) in a day the day after surgery.
    Just keep sipping.

Premiere Protein Shakes at 30g of Protein each made it easy for me. I had two of those a day plus Bone Broth and some turkey. Gl

theladyslipper got a reaction from mrs w in Low BMI slow losing encouragement welcome!
I was sleeved on Jan. 7th and had a low BMI of 36.5 I'm around 6'0 & went from 268 to 253 on pre-surgery diet. I couldn't lose more or my BMI would've gone too low (under 35)for my insurance approval. So, lost 15lbs in pre-surgery diet. At then end of month 1, I was 234 & tomorrow will be month 2 & I'm 218. Lost 50 lbs in 2 months (including the two weeks of Protein Shakes pre-surgery). I have not denied myself food post-sleeve--if something looks great, I have 1 bite of it (which is about all I can hold! Just 1-4 bites lol!) I have exercised 30-45 minutes nearly every day since 2-3 days post-op though. I will say that 2 weeks ago I really assessed myself--I'd been traveling to some wonderful hotels & snacking on cheese plates & some other foods that weren't the lowest in calorie, but having them in very, very small quantities. My scale was sitting still, so I tried to become very aware of cleaning it up to Protein shakes, cottage cheese, baked chicken & protein Soups. I went down 4-5lbs in one week. I'm really aware that this Surgery is just a tool & I have to make good decisions in my diet & exercise regimen. I'm sure I'll get distracted again & have to come back to that awareness.
I will say that I look forward to reaching my goal & going into the maintenance phase where I have a little more freedom w/ the food. My mother is 1.5 years post-sleeve and she lost 147 lbs in 10 months--she's 5'8 & went from 275 to 128 & this sounds crazy, but she's struggling to keep weight on. She swears her pouch is tiny--she's ALWAYS eating. I don't think that'll be my case!!!

So, I'm almost at 2 months post-sleeve & the Constipation has been a bit#%! I use Miralax, colace twice a week & I eat 4 prunes 3-4 times a week. STILL, it's been a little difficult to fully relieve in that department. (I warned you it was TMI...faint of heart abort reading now). I actually day-dreamed about the dumping syndrome & explosive diarrhea thinking...the shaking & sweating sounded awful, but to fully relieve my bowels without a BATTLE in the BATHROOM, didn't sound too bad. Well, thankfully, I haven't experience dumping yet b/c it sounds absolutely terrible. I have actually thanked God EVERY single time I've gotten to go #2 since the procedure--I'm talking "Praise you Jesus!" & "Thank you for allowing me to have a bowel movement!" whether it was fully relieving the bowels or not. I'm the grateful type--in this department, somes better than none & nearly ever bathroom visit has been like a mild form of child labor. WORK.
Well, I've gotten a sinus infection--taking antibiotic, Probiotics & a few other things which has caused me to have diarrhea. TMI approaching. It's been some of the greatest times. I'm drinking more to make sure I don't get dehydrated & I VERY begrudgingly took Imodium to be safe on the hydration thing. So today, I'm very thankful for diarrhea & the gift of fully emptied bowels. Now, I feel very unladylike for such a post, but keeping it real[emoji372][emoji372][emoji372]

I'm so excited! And THANKFUL that the weight is really coming off! Now, I've hit a stall or two during these first 2months & I've had to exercise & keep a sharp eye on what I'm eating & Portion Control, but this procedure has been the best decision I've made. I'm filled with so much hope for the future (& the near future involves spring & summer) & that's a gift I have not always possessed. Grateful!!!!

theladyslipper reacted to Kindle in Does anyone ever get periodic IVs?
I only got IV fluids when I was severely dehydrated during my second and third month postop. Prior to that I was doing fine but I couldn't keep up with my Fluid losses due to 24/7 diarrhea from a C. diff infection. Gotta say I really enjoyed those days (even the getting poked 3-4 times trying to find a vein) because I actually got to take a break from drinking.
However, IV fluids is certainly something I wouldn't rely on for hydration. They put you at greater risk for infection and can cause phlebitis which is uncomfortable to say the least. Frequent IV sticks can compromise your vessels and make it more difficult to place a catheter if and when you really need one.
I'd just try and put more effort into drinking more. Keep Water by your bed. Drink till the moment you fall asleep. Drink 16oz before you even leave for work. Drink in the car everywhere you go. Keep a bottle at hand all day. Drink 12-16oz of Decaf tea as a bedtime snack. Set a timer to drink every 15 minutes if you have to. Set goals....drink X amount before the next time you eat.

I would never voluntarily get an IV. I hate them as much as I hate having blood drawn.
Water and liquids should drain through pretty fast at 2 months. Maybe you can see if you are ready to up the pace on how many sips you take and/or the size of them. I think I was easily able to drink a bottle of Water in an hour by then... about 4 oz every 15 min... which coincided with my dr.'s guidelines.

You know how integrative physicians offices often have IV cocktail bars, so to say? Does anyone ever go once a week or every 2 weeks to get a little more hydrated? I'm thinking of just the basic hydration w/ b & c Vitamins added. I'm not getting in 64 oz of liquid & am so used to having even more than that pre-sleeve. I'm 2 months tomorrow & feel like I need more Water. I sip ALL-day, but just can't seem to get to 64 oz.

No dont I truly appreciate it. I'm partially scared to go for the first time cause idk if my exit even works the same. [emoji23] but I will keep. All of this in mind. I purchased some smoove move tea my 1st Day home to keep on standby and I'm wondering should I start taking it, or is it normal not to go within the 1st wk home. When did u actually pass your first bowel movement after surgery?

Honestly today is the 2nd non chemically induced poo in a couple of weeks, anything before that not so much since surgery. I stopped all the internal meds for movement and even the probotic weeks ago because they caused so much cramping etc and still didn't work. I have been using suppositories twice a week up till the past two weeks. I was so excited today, there was dancing and singing. I also added 1 oz of either pecans or cashews everyday to help with the process.

So I'm saying I feel your pain!!

I have both--lucky me! I have the "no goes" from the Percocet I take and I experience the "ol dumping " experience whenever I eat anything spicy or overly sweet.
What I do is try to balance my new life with these two factors. Each are a part of my life now, so I've learned to accept them and work with them rather than fight against them which just makes me more stressed and less focused on my journey.
We all have to choose our battles and I refuse to let the bad things take precedent over all of the good and wonderful things that are happ'n!

So excited about this Bai Molokai Coconut drink!
1g sugar, 5 calories per serving (10 cal for the whole bottle) no artificial sweeteners & it's so flavorful. I'm 7 weeks post-op & plain Water just doesn't taste great to me. I'm tired of adding crystal light & stuff w/ lots of food color to my water, so this is a refreshing change-up...except it makes me feel like I should be sipping it at the beach.
