  1. I, too, had a hiatal hernia repair during gastric sleeve surgery. I haven't had one hint of heartburn since then. It's lovely.

    Dumping Syndrome

I'm five weeks out with gastric sleeve, and I've had dumping issues for the past week. I thought it was the cheese I tried, but I haven't had any cheese today, and I'm still going. Of course, I had dumping problems long before my gastric sleeve surgery. It just took a lot more food to make it happen before surgery. If this continues, I'll be calling my surgeon.
  4. Apparently, cheese is a no-no for me. :-(

I can't eat eggs :( I hear though that the food issues often resolve themselves after time. So give it some time. It would suck not to be able to have cheese. It sucks for me no eggs :( I love eggs and good protein too.

Oh how tragic! Maybe it was the kind or you ate it too fast or just the day. Sometimes you can try again later. Don't give up on it! I LOVE cheese!

Carl Dickenson, I had my surgery on August 18, 2015. I am just starting to be able to eat eggs. I can eat anything...but eggs make me nauseous. This morning, I had a fried eggs and for the first time, it was delicious! I am getting back to normal.

Will anything ever taste good again?

Your taste will continue to change over the coming weeks and months, but yes, food will taste good again! Five weeks out from surgery, I find that simple food tastes best, and I appreciate the taste of food much more than I did before surgery because I eat very slowly.
  6. My last straw was falling down at my brother-in-law's funeral. It was the first time I'd worn heels (short ones, at that) since gaining more weight, and I couldn't keep my balance on the grass. I fell down, and even with two people helping me, I could not get up. I spent the entire graveside service sitting on the ground. Afterward, I had to get on all fours in my dress and stand up like a toddler. It was humiliating, and I felt horrible for causing a scene for my husband and family.
  7. I use two of the unjury Protein powders: unflavored and chicken Soup flavor. The chicken soup flavor is not thick, but you have to be careful to mix it with Water under 140 degrees. If the water is too hot, the protein clumps. I also have the Unjury chocolate and vanilla, but I'm having trouble with the sweet protein flavors, too. I also drink Pacific Bone broth (http://www.pacificfoods.com/food/broths-stocks/bone-broths/organic-bone-broth-chicken.aspx). One serving has 9 grams of protein, but it doesn't have high sodium, so I add some of the Unjury chicken soup flavor Protein Powder. (The regular Pacific chicken broth has more sodium.)

    NSV shout outs

Me, bursting into my daughter's room, "Look, I can fit into my smaller panties!" Daughter: "That's great, Mom. I'm on FaceTime with David."

    Ladies please

I had my first post-op period recently. I did have cravings, but they were muted. I didn't eat anything off my plan, and the cravings faded quickly.

Don't be too hard on yourself. The first few days back are tough. My suggestion would be starting the day with a high protein shake like Premier Protein ready made shake which is only 11 ounces but contains 30g protein. That helps knock out part of your fluid and protein goal. Tomorrow will be easier!

    Rude people

Well, I guess I should have expected it, but 16 days post-op, someone very close to me just said something hateful to me and then left the house. He was out the door before I even fully realized what he'd said. This makes me very sad.

    Cravings....when do they go away?

The worst of my head hunger is gone 15 days out from surgery. I can't say it will never come back, but I think a few things are helping: 1. I limit artificial sweetener. It tastes too sweet, anyway, and for me, it just perpetuates cravings. 2. I make a high-Protein "dessert" with non-fat, low-sugar (but not artificially sweetened) yogurt, regular soy milk, unflavored Protein powder, and cinnamon. I use enough soy milk to make it liquid. (My fave yogurt is Siggi's.) 3. Instead of chocolate Protein shakes (which now taste disgusting to me), I use the unjury chicken Soup flavor protein powder. This feels more like a meal than a chocolate shake. When I started eating baby food meats (puree), it helped a lot, too. Before surgery, I could put down fast food, full-sugar soda, and Desserts with the best of them. If someone put a burger, fries, Dr Pepper, and sundae in front of me right now, and I could eat it without sleeve consequences, I would have no interest in it. Of course, none of this helps with the chewing aspect, but it won't be long before you can chew food again. I promise. You will not fail. The liquid phase will be over before you know it.

    Restriction time post recovery

If it's financially feasible, you might consider doing it at separate times. That way, each of you can take the time to heal in the way that makes most sense for you and your different jobs.

      OutsideMatchInside

The gas pain in my shoulder and my hip were the worst part about the whole thing. Other than there, there was basically no pain.
