  1. Yes I get it bad to. If you add apple cider vinegar (tsp)(braggs organic)to your drink it really helps. There are also pills you can take if you can. Sent from my SM-J700T using the BariatricPal App Thanks! My nutritionist mentioned ACV as well (and I even have the Braggs brand) but I haven't tried it yet. I'm going to give it a shot - much appreciated.
  2. I'm doing generally well but am relying on Pepcid to sleep. Without it, I have a lot of GERD. Anyone else have reflux issues?
  3. Congratulations! I'm scared I'm losing weight too fast. 10.5 lbs in a week since surgery, 14.5 since I did the liquid diet 24 hours prior to surgery. Of course I did get my period 2 days after surgery so it's likely my initial weights were inflated due to Water retention. Still it's a little scary. Does anyone know if things slow down after we get to the soft pureed foods stage? You would think I'd want to lose weight this quickly but 1) except for closest friends and family I haven't told anyone that I've done this and was hoping it wouldn't be so rapid; 2) I feel like I need every calorie I get in for healing; 3) I'm terrified of hair loss which I know results from the rapid weight loss related hormonal imbalance.
  4. How's everyone doing with hunger? Day by day I get more and more hungry and thirsty! I have absolutely no problems getting fluids or Protein down so at this point it's really mind over matter - I am having to make sure I go slowly and don't over consume but I feel like I could eat a lot!
  5. I'm guessing I'm experiencing those alien movements as well. I've got crazy gurgling; almost every sip I take (and am taking small sips, no straw, resting between each one) results in a belch; and let's just say constipation is NOT an issue. I've checked on other VSG sites I'm on and everyone says this is normal and all dies down, esp. by the time you get to soft foods.
  6. I have a lot of stomach acid and gurgling, even with the medication and so it's hard to tell if I actually feel hungry or if it's just the acid. With that said, I do feel hunger! And, it also takes me at least an hour to get a shake down. I also know part of it is psychological - I saw a friend's FB lunch post which looked delicious and I started literally salivating thinking about a tomato salad...
  7. I was finally discharged this afternoon and am at home. I'm not having trouble getting fluids in but every time I drink, I get A LOT of gurgling in my sleeve. It doesn't hurt so I'm keeping at it but it's a weird/new sensation. Anyone else experience this?
  8. Looks like I'm going home early this afternoon. I cannot wait for a shower. Was able to move some gas and even had a bowel movement so those are all good signs. I'm finding very cold drinks harder to tolerate than room temp or warm tea. Anyone else? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  9. Anyone get released today? Not me - have to stay another day to try to get my fluids up. Still have a lot of stomach acid and gas discomfort but feel better otherwise. Walking for longer distances. Have a terrible new roommate! Sigh. Hope day 2 is better for everyone, esp those like me who had a rough first day. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  10. I sleep for an hour or less then have to get up for the bathroom. These fluids they pump you with are no joke! I'm pretty uncomfortable. The anti-nausea meds only take the edge off and I'm trying to avoid narcotic painkillers and instead having IV Tylenol to avoid the nausea that comes with narcotics. I've taken maybe 5 walks down the hall since yesterday late afternoon but other than some belching I'm not really getting any relief from the gas. I know day by day I will feel better but this is tougher than I anticipated! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  11. Glad to hear it! My surgery itself was fine but I am struggling with a lot of nausea and pain. Doing my best to sip but it's pretty limited still. Hoping to feel better tomorrow when the anesthesia and gas wears off a bit more, Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  12. Good luck everyone! I will be heading to the hospital soon! I barely slept! So nervous... Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  13. Good luck all! See you on the other side! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  14. So, the hospital called later this afternoon and they had a change in scheduling - looks like now I'm second! I guess I got my wish of sorts. I'm scheduled at 10, have to arrive at 8. I'm still not a morning person but that's not so bad. I'll be an hour ahead of those of you at 11am!
  15. Just got my surgery time - 8:30am, have to be there between 6-6:30am. I had been hoping for later in the day as I am so not a morning person and even the idea of having to get up so early makes me anxious and then I can't get to sleep. I also hope my surgical team is awake and alert first thing in the morning! I was thinking maybe it would be better to be 2nd of the day, once they got into the swing of it. Obviously they know what they're doing and are professionals but still... Also, this is dumb but, apparently they arrange the surgeries each day by BMI with the highest BMI patients earliest and then down the list. I feel ashamed for being upset that I'm the biggest! I don't judge anyone by their size, knowing how it has felt for me to be treated so poorly for being my size, but still, I can't help but feel upset that I'm the biggest! I'm trying to look on the bright side: 1) earliest in the day means more of the day to work on walking and keeping liquids down, etc. and that will increase the chance I'll go home the next day instead of Wednesday; 2) I won't have to spend much time thirsty, hungry as well as anxious before I go under; 3) It will be easier to get across the city in a cab (I live in Manhattan, NYC) at that time...I'm sure there are other things. I can't believe this is 3 days away. So anxious. I know this is what I need to do but I can't help but have thoughts like "what if I'm making a terrible mistake?!?" I take comfort in remembering that every time I've seen a question from a pre-op person in a FB support group about whether or not others in the group regret their surgeries, a good 97% of commenters say they don't regret anything, even if they had complications. Those who do regret their surgeries are a tiny minority. I can do this right?!
  16. I'm pretty scared/anxious. I've been taking a lorazepam to go to bed each night for the past 2 nights. Things I'm scared about include: the surgery itself; the recovery and potential complications, and hair loss (I have thin, fine hair to begin with and really can't afford to lose any). My surgeon doesn't require a liquid diet until 24 hours before so I a bit nervous about what Sunday is going to be like. I'm also scared about the social repercussions as I have a lot of friends that I haven't told. With all that said, I'm as ready as I'll ever be. I thought about this decision for a year before I made it and slowly started the process. And I have such bad osteoarthritis and plantar fasciitis with a lot of pain and mobility impairment (esp. now that I can't take NSAIDS before surgery or afterward for awhile). I'm so hopeful that once I lose a significant amount of weight I might actually be pain-free or at least have greatly reduced pain and greatly improved mobility. I'm also looking forward to smaller size clothes options, let's be real here. But health is my main motivator. I'm in my early-mid 40s and I without taking this step, I can't imagine what the next half of my life (one can only hope) would look like. So, I'm as ready as I'll ever be!
  17. I sent you a msg too. Would love to be added to the FB group. Thank you!
  18. Hi all, I'm new to the group and also scheduled for 5/16. I'm in NYC and my surgeon is Dr. Roslin. He does not require much of a pre-op diet - only liquids the day before (as well as no alcohol or NSAIDS for 2 weeks prior). My insurance plan did not require a diet prior to surgery either. I am working with a naturopath separately, however, and she advised me to quit gluten, dairy, and soy. I'm slowly weaning myself off coffee and that's been hard! I'm definitely scared - I've never had any kind of major surgery. But I'm as ready to get this done as I'll ever be!
