    Question about swallowing

I had a similar experience (sleeved on 12/2/15) where the water seemed to hit the top of my stomach, stop, and then slowly trickle in. Meanwhile, I would feel discomfort, like something was stuck or like I needed to burp. Often tapping or pressing on my sternum would seem to help relieve the feeling or getting the air out. It got better each day, and to my best guess (and the nurse's), it's probably because of the swelling post surgery- at first liquid doesn't flow in really easily since the opening to the stomach is a little swollen, but as the swelling comes down, it becomes easier. Hope that long explanation helps!

    Surgery day!

Good luck! Hope all goes well wishing you all the best!!
  4. If you've been seeing a doctor (primary care) about weight loss, they may be able to go back a few months and enter data on the worksheet that your insurance requires (your surgeons office can get you that paper). In the meantime, things that would help your supervised diet requirement is using a food tracker or diary (I used myfitnesspal, but there are other apps too) to show your efforts in maintaining a healthy diet, even if you don't manage to lose weight on it.

    I'm bummed, y'all. So bummed.

I'm sorry you had such a crummy experience with your psych eval. Mine had a horribly long test, but the consultation was helpful, and discussed primarily weight loss-related topics (and some mental health concerns regarding stress, anxiety, etc. but in a context that I felt pertained to my surgery). Have you considered providing some feedback to your program about this psychiatrist? It might be helpful for them to know how the evaluation went and what was discussed. if several patients have similar concerns or experiences, it might prompt them to stop recommending or using that physician for their psychiatric evaluations. I hope that the appointments and submission to insurance go by quickly and that you are able to have your surgery during the time frame you had in mind. I wish you all the best!

    Thursday surgeon appt

@@cookies_queen Good luck! Just had my meeting with the surgeon today All went well, but I was a nervous wreck going into it. Just know that your program wouldn't let you get that far if they didn't think you were ready. Hope all goes well and you get quick approval from your insurance!

Having a period right before surgery?

I was just in the doctors' office asking about menstrual cycles and the surgery today. The nurse told me that regardless of when I have had my cycle before the surgery (I'm going with the sleeve), there's a good chance that I'll start my period very soon after. She even said that there are women who will start their period on the table. From what she explained, the surgery impacts your hormones and starts weight loss mode immediately, and when your body starts burning the fat, it can release estrogen levels that can cause menstrual irregularity. Since it's common, I'm sure that your doctor will not be taken aback by it, and the nurse should have pointers on how to deal with it or what to expect I didn't, however, ask about appropriate sanitary products to use during that time, so thank you to the previous posters for mentioning that! I now know I need to ask about what is appropriate to use so that I can prepare for what's to come. Best of luck, and I hope that you're able to keep the surgery date that you had set your hopes on!
