My gastric bypass operation is booked for 11th August!

I just had bypass surgery 5 weeks ago. I was a little nervous also, but knew that I wasn't really living my life to the fullest. You've obviously decided that this is what's best for you. Keep reminding yourself why you're doing this. Sometimes the things that are best for us aren't necessarily the easiest things to do!

(Your) Relationship with Food: A Quick Self-Check

Congrats on keeping up with the weight loss! It was very interesting to read the self-check you posted. Before my surgery (which was only 5 weeks ago) I would have checked almost every item! But now I don't relate to any of them. Hope this continues! Thanks for posting this!

    Feeling "bummed" after doctor's appointment

@MinaDina. THANK YOU! You are so right. I guess I am one who seeks the approval of others, and I need to quit doing that! My husband reminded me that my doctor, while good, is not Mr. Personality, and an "ok" from him is probably as good as it gets. Either way, you are right. I have a lot to be proud of! Thanks for putting this in perspective for me. As for you.... 1 week to go! I know you're excited. I was anxious, nervous, and excited before my bypass! I wish you well. Please let me know how your surgery goes.

    Home care post op?

I probably could have managed on my own, but it was great to have someone here to help me reminding me to drink and fixing Jello and broth for me, etc., I think I could have done it on my own but I probably would have felt a little overwhelmed.

5 wks post op - Don't want to eat anything! Need HELP!

Thank you all. I have a follow up appt with my surgeon tomorrow and look forward to hearing what he says about this.
  10. So, I'm 5 weeks post op and don't really feel like eating. I've not been getting my Proteins in the last few days and may not be getting my fluids in. I was doing okay, and then all of a sudden I just don't feel like eating anything. The things I was eating a week ago don't taste good to me anymore. Water doesn't taste good anymore. I've had trouble with feeling like my food is stuck a few times and since then I haven't wanted to eat anything. I know I need to eat something and get these proteins in but I'm just struggling. Nothing appeals to me. Not sure what to do. I could really use your suggestions if you've been through this. Thanks in advance for your help!

    Unflavored Shakes

The unjury Unflavored isn't bad. I can't taste it in most things, but it does seem to have a slight flavor. Beans probably have a strong enough flavor that you wouldn't actually taste the Protein powder.

    How slow is slow?

Try a different brand of Protein shake. I could not tolerate the Premiere Protein shakes, but lots of people on this board seem to like them.
  15. Glad you had a great experience! I did too! I told my husband, if it wasn't for these incisions I wouldn't think I'd had surgery! Hope you continue to do well!

    Realistic goal?

Our stats are similar. I'm 5 weeks post op and have lost 29.5 pounds. The first 3 weeks I lost 21 pounds, but it has slowed down now to 3 to 5 pounds a week. Good Luck!

    Pokemon Go!

Somebody posted something about Pokemon GO somewhere on this website. I read about it, and while I'm not "into" Pokemon, it does look like an entertaining way to get some exercise. I'm just wondering if I would be able to play this game without knowing anything about the Pokemon characters.

    Postop questions?

I had chicken broth, sugar-free Jello, and sugar-free popsicles -- all with unflavored Protein powder added. And, of course, Water. I had something about every 3-4 hours or so.

Discomfort when swallowing @ 4 wks post op

@@Pegasus012587 I have a follow up next week. I will let you know what my surgeon says. (I'm assuming that I'm eating too fast - even though it doesn't seem that way to me - or something like that.
  23. I'm 4 weeks post op and on the soft/pureed food stage. Sometimes when I swallow food I have an uncomfortable feeling in my chest. It almost feels like a tightening. Hard to explain. It happens when I take my first bite of food, so I don't think it's the feeling some get when full. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I will ask my surgeon about this during my next appointment but that's still a couple of weeks away.

    Trouble sleeping...

I started having insomnia about a week after surgery. It was bad for about three weeks. I would go to bed feeling sleepy but couldn't get to sleep until 3a.m. Or so then wake up 3 hrs later feeling wide awake. Now, in week 5, it has gotten a lot better. Thankfully!
