1. Congratulations!! Many people (myself included) have "fat goggles" that keep them from seeing the progress they are making. Trying on stuff that you do not think will fit and finding them too big is objective proof that your body is changing no matter what the scale says. WooooHooo!!!!!

Thanks. Yes!! My fat goggles are still working, sadly.

  2. Even with my 130 + pounds of weight-loss, I weigh more than my younger sibling. I get frustrated by scale numbers some days tbh. Even though I workout and stay very active and have maintained a pretty good diet focusing more on toning and gaining muscles still I get secretly bummed. Since surgery, I have overhauled my lifestyle.
Last weekend my sister was showing me some clothes she bought and just for fun I started trying them on. To my surprise everything was big on me. I was secretly ecstatic. Because I’m gaining muscles and losing inches so that means my workouts showing results. I want to be as fit as I possibly can be. I do eat more carbs like whole grains, Brown rice and quinoa now but I keep away from simple carbs because of my fitness goals. Moral of story the numbers on scale is not everything.

  3. At my last physical, my PCP was full of compliments about my weightloss. He also reminded me how great it was that I was maintaining two years and 5 months out because majority of folks start gaining after two years out. And all the labs came out good. This is the same Dr. who harped about how I needed to lose weight if I wanted to live a bit longer. It was a really proud moment for me.

  4. I am just over two years post VSG and I still smile when I see the huge gap between myself and tables when I’m sitting in a booth at restaurants. Also, when I see my collar bone I love it.

It’s a nice reminder how far I have come. And keeps me motivated to stay on track with my fitness and nutrition.

  5. The way I see it loose skin won't kill me. Having lost 130## i have a lot of sagging skin but I wouldn't trade it for anything. I'm still not done losing. My journey was slower than most people but I am so grateful for everything.

  6. I made it to onderland but because I haven't been weighing regularly I don't know when it happened. I am beyond excited. Been over 16 years since I was in onderland. I am so grateful and thankful for this decision to make myself healthy and fit. My relationship with food is so much healthier now. I don't obsess about anything I consume. If I do eat a carb mainly as dessert I don't beat myself because I know I make good food choices 90 percent of the time. I am proud of myself and how far I have come.

Just like everyone else I get my fair share of not so favorable days in life but I don't seek comfort from foods or alcohol like old me would have. It is my choice to make me and keep me healthy.

Please be kind to you because you are very special and don't give up.

  7. Lately I've been focusing on rebuilding the muscle I lost during my weight loss phase. I do weight lifting every day (on different muscle groups) and then I run for about 20-40 minutes using an app that helps me run in intervals. It's awesome. I've seen great improvements in my muscle tone and my stamina.

Hi@bellabloom, girl I wish I could run. Running leaves my left heel hurting for weeks and out of commission. Why I don't know. Keep it up!!

  8. 45 minutes of upper body weight lifting and the 45 minutes of HIIT with the butterfly stroke in the pool mixed in with free and breaststroke. Rarely do it but love the feeling of total exhaustion until just lifting my arms to shower is hard.

    Hi@ ryan_86

I wish I had access to year round pool. I would rather be in the pool

  9. Big fan of squats and dead lifts. I know it is because prior to surgery my back was in constant pain and my left leg was being dragged behind me because of nerve pain. Just being able to do the motion of a squat or pick something up off the floor is novel. Doing it with heavy weights is surreal.
dusky goddess - what type of squats are you doing?

    Hello@BigViffer,
I do pile, pulse, sumo and barbell. Trying to get into one leg.
I would love to get into dead lifts now. But I want to do that under someone's guidance at the gym as I don't want to get injuries.

I'm 10 months out. Nearly lost 120lbs. Way exceeded my surgeons goal. I work out religiously. Always trying to find the right balance with eating.

I have the most supportive friends and family, I'm so blessed-but how do you deal with the pressure to continue to succeed? To not gain? How do you ignore the eyes that are watching to see if you actually can keep this weight off? Just feeling a bit emotional and stressed today and would love to hear from some veterans... ?

Congrats on your success !!! Seems to me you are already doing what needs to be done. Keep it up! You did this for you and your health don't let anyone or anything bother you. You are strong and empowered.

I guess it can be for some, but we are at such different levels that there really isn't any, She needed to restore basic functional strength after anemia induced atrophy after plastics while I had been working out and swimming for years. I mostly tagged along to get a bit of professional guidance and be with her through the process. I never thought I would ever see her doing two minute planks though!

you are such an awesome hubby !!

My wife and I used one for a year or so who was a referral from her physical therapists as one who they worked with to do follow on work after one is beyond the physical therapy level, which is what she needed, and I tagged along to work at my level (I think it was an additional $10 per hour to do both of us.)

I have also known some post ops who have hired kinesiologists to specifically help them with balance issues, as that can be a problem for some with the rapidly changing center of gravity that we can experience as the weight comes off (I used to joke with my wife that it was like going through puberty in reverse....)

Hi Rick! did you and wife get competitive ? I feel like a little competition would be good.
