Wow..can I relate to this thread! I had my surgery 11/19/15..and returned to work 2 weeks ago...(having lost 35 pounds since anyone last saw me)...one doofus @ work immediately blurted out, "Did you have gastric bypass?!?"---I confronted her and curtly told her that my surgery was personal...and essentially none of her concern.
The next day, I returned to work to hear that she told everyone I had vaginal reconstruction!!! I was appalled.
Again, I confronted her..asking just WTH her problem was...spreading lies that had placed her on a fast-track to a workplace harassment charge...now possibly sexual harassment....and she meekly replied, "I was just concerned about you"--- BS...."concern" would have been checking in on me while I was off from work...not speculating and fabricating BS lies upon my return because you don't know ANYTHING about my personal life...and you have some sick need to be the focus of everything. --- I told her that if anyone wanted to 'really know what went on while I was gone from work', that I'd gladly tell them, provided that they be willing to pay a portion of my medical bills....otherwise, it's NOYB. Period.
I told her that if she spoke one more word about my health or appearance, there would be consequences beyond which she cared to imagine.....Strangely enough, she has been quiet as a mouse since.
Some people just have serious issues seeing someone else experience anything positive....My choice to undergo such a life-altering procedure didn't come lightly...and the victories are MINE...and of no concern to anyone other than those I choose to share with.

Luck has nothing to do with it. I've paid to have health insurance most of my adult life.
And no, if I had to pay $21,000, I probably wouldn't have had it done. And I certainly wouldn't have started a GoFundMe to have people pay for it, either, because it's not everyone else's problem I couldn't pay for it.

And if you can't afford it, maybe you shouldn't be buying it or begging for money to buy it and realize that sometimes we can't all get what we want?
    But that's just crazy talk.

In January when I started the process I was 275lbs with the of my PCP and surgeon I lost around 10-12lbs pounds before starting the pre-op diet. After pre-op diet I lost 20-21lbs and went into surgery around 246. As of today I am 222lbs that's a total of 53 pounds.

Hi Healthyamy, I am pre-op as well. Only I don't have a date yet! I'm waiting for my insurance through my husbands work to start next month and go form there! Although I'm not too confident that weight loss surgery will be covered. Boo! Anyway, I'm keeping my options open and staying prayerful that I'll have the surgery sooner rather than later. I am new to this forum and know that I'll need friends as well through this process. I'd be happy to chat with you and hopefully encourage you as well. I do feel your pain about not being able to get around comfortably. Knee , back and hip pain! The struggle is real girl! Good luck with everything that is coming your way. Here's to smaller clothes in the not so distant future.

As a nurse, I have to agree w/ Daisee68...The Voltaren gel can be a life-saver when you can't ingest NSAID's.
--Or Lidocaine Patches..those are great & you cut-to-fit and apply them only where you most need the relief.
...and it is unfortunate for all of us that damages to our joints (hips, back, knees...everything) is already 'done', although relieving the pressure on our musculoskeletal systems by losing weight helps, the stress and premature/ undue wear and tear cannot be undone.
Hope you feel better soon. [[[[[ hugs ]]]]]

Ask for Voltaren Gel. It is prescription TOPICAL anti-inflammatory so it should be fine because it doesn't process through your stomach. (At least I was told it would be ok.) Also as heather said, elevate it, wrap it and ice it - 20 minutes on/20 minutes off for probably 3 or 4 times per day. Also, I have been told that you can take NSAID on a rare occasion as long as you are taking a PPI. It probably won't be enough to really help your knee though. The Voltaren Gel should help until you can determine if something else needs to be done.
Sorry you are having a bummer vacation!

I am getting into a huge holiday slump! I came home from work on Thursday night and went to change from my work clothes and my skinny jeans wouldn't go over my right knee. It had been achy for a few days but now it is swollen and looks like my 250 lb knee looked.
Went to the Dr and got a referral to an orthopedic doc. I am just feeling so down! Losing 85+ lbs should eliminate this kind of thing (or at least that is what my crazy brain keeps telling me). I am now spending my vacation from work laid up on the couch trying to talk myself out of grazing on snacky foods all day! Also, I wish that I could take a NSAID. I really think that getting the swelling down would make a huge difference!
This sweet gingerbread shirt is doing its best to keep my spirits up!

    Totally my opinion...
If you have to beg others (friends and strangers) to afford something like this, then you can't afford it.
Reduce your spending, save money and pay for it yourself. Living below your means (which means you aren't spending every last penny of your paycheck and that you are saving a good percentage) should be a given. Just off the top of my head - cut out the high phone bill (plenty of low cost phone plans out there below $40/month - I pay around $30/for TWO phone plans!), stop eating out, cook in bulk and freeze meals, do away with shopping for fun or things like car washes, manicures or cable... just about everyone has one or two (or 10) things that they do that could be stopped to save up without causing real pain. The money is there, you just have to give up some other luxury to find it.
Again, completely my opinion, but I think it is a really sad sign that some people think they are owed an easy time just because they want something, instead of working hard and making some effort to do it themselves.
