Why does people treat you different?
I have noticed this too. People are more friendly, guys hold doors for me now and look me in the face and smile at me when they never used to. It does make me feel like all they care about is my weight/looks rather then the person on the inside. My therapist made a good point though the other day, that physical attractiveness plays a huge role in how you feel about someone, it does for everyone and we can't be upset at others for feeling the same way we do when we look at someone. It is hard to deal with though. I want to scream sometimes and say why am I suddenly worthy of your time now, but it is what it is and I just need to move past it.

Vitamins?
I would check with your surgeon. I was told to take Bariatric Fusion chewable tablets and chewable is needed after surgery until your surgeon clears you to swallow tablets.

The Gas Topic?
I fart much less since my RNY, I notice it increases if I eat more carbs and stuff I shouldn't be eating. Since I mostly stay on track I fart less and I think it smells less too.

Stomach bug
I am three months post op and am just getting over a stomach bug with vomiting and diarrhea. It seems I can barely eat anything now, I fill up super fast and stay full for a really long time to the point that I am eating half of what I used to. Has anyone else had this for a few days afterwards? Is it normal? Is it almost like a pouch reset because I couldn't eat for a day and a half? (I am pushing fluids, just curious about food). Update - had my 3 mo post op appt and I am doing fine. I was told it can take a few extra days to get back to normal eating compared to before I had gastric bypass.

Help with anger issues
I go to therapy and am being treated for mild depression/anxiety which I think is helping a great deal. My husband said that I am occasionally bitchy, but otherwise he said I haven't been that bad. I wonder if it's because of my meds.

Insurance coverage
It varies from plan to plan. Mine is a 70/30 plan once the deductible is met. My surgery was about 55K and I ended up paying $2800 out of pocket because I hit my maximum out of pocket for the year.

Had Gastric Bypass 1 1/2 months ago & I have gained.
I was thinking this could be a stall myself. I have experienced a few so far and while the sudden gain or maintenance between a couple of lbs is frustrating, it does eventually start coming off again. It seems like you are exercising quite a bit...how many calories are you taking in? I know sometimes I actually had to start taking in more calories to get the weight to come off as I was not eating enough and the additional exercise I was doing just made the deficit larger putting my body into starvation mode (per my NUT).

Feeling weak and eating everything I find
I used to eat for any reason, happy, sad, bored, etc. Are you bored now that school is over? Is there anything active you could get involved with, go to some local exercise classes? Make plans with friends?

7 Days away with a COUGH
I had a head cold on the day of my surgery and was told that since I didn't have a fever and my respiratory status was find that they would move forward. They gave me some hefty antibiotics during and when I woke up the cold was gone from my head, but slowly moved to my chest. Continue to communicate with your surgeon and while a delay may not be ideal, if it's safer, best to wait it out.

My Pouch Fights Back!
I threw up a handful of times after my surgery and I always thought back and realized I ate too fast. It gets easier.

WOW
Glad for you. I had minimal gas pain, but much muscular pain where the incisions were no matter how I moved. That's all long gone though and it was all so worth it.

Where to purchase sample protein?
Do you have any bariatric stores near you? The one by me allows you to try samples of all of them for a small price. Vitamin Shoppe has quite a few sample packs to choose from (next to the big containers on the shelves) and GNC has Quest protein sample pouches to try.

Has anyone found the journey after surgery easy?
Nope. I struggle at times with wanting to eat things I shouldn't, I still see the 250 lb woman I was before the surgery in the mirror at times (going to therapy for this), I struggle with plateaus even though I know it's a normal part of the process. I have to deal with people who don't understand the process telling me I am losing too much weight (even though I am still obese and a nurse at that!). I still have to talk myself into exercising at times. Despite all of this, overall I feel so much better. I wouldn't change it for anything.

Almost one week out post op
For me it was about a week.

Lifting Restrictions
Mine was 20 lbs for six weeks, but when I spoke with my surgeon before I was d/c home from the hospital, I told him I had a 21 lb toddler at home and he said depending on how I was feeling I could lift him after two weeks. Even at two weeks I would have increased abdominal pain when I lifted things, so I held off. It was about four weeks off that I could finally lift him comfortably.

Overall how have your moods changed?
After the initial recovery period, I started feeling much better once the weight started coming off. My attitude has changed for the better. I feel more outgoing and interactive with others as I am less concerned with how I appear to others weight wise.

What goes in, must come out, right?
If it was used as a preventative, I would check with your surgeon to see if you can use only as needed. As a nurse myself, this if what I would recommend to anyone and would do for myself. I had issues with constipation after my RNY due to the increased Protein intake and pain meds, so was told to take stool softeners and laxatives as needed. Excessive diarrhea can lead to other issues including pain when moving your bowels and wiping and skin breakdown, fissures, infections (including UTIs from all the wiping). Definitely check with your surgeon.

Do You Eat Breakfast? What Do You Have?
I typically have one of the following: 1. low calorie/sugar greek yogurt 2. low carb toast topped with low fat cottage cheese and sugar free fruit preserves 3. ProtiDiet Cereal and almond milk 4. high Protein waffle or pancake with sugar free syrup and fruit 5. eggs occasionally with salsa and Beans, but the eggs sit heavy for me, so I don't have them often

INSURANCE DENIED FOUR DAYS BEFORE SURGERY !
I work for an insurance company as a nurse care manager and sometimes it isn't hoops at all that they are putting you through. Sometimes the nurses that do the reviews get very little documentation from the doctors with the request and they don't have the appropriate information to make an informed decision. Please, communicate with the surgeon and as mentioned above, if the denial was very recent ask for a peer to peer reconsideration (your surgeon can call in and request to speak with a medical director at the insurance company directly if they offer it). Otherwise, you will have to go through the appeal process, have the surgeon send in anything and everything that they feel will help support the medical necessity of the procedure. I almost went below the BMI and had to maintain my weight for a couple of months to ensure I would get approved because I had no other comorbidities. If your surgeon knew the requirements and didn't communicate what you should do to ensure approval, then that is on you and the surgeon, not the insurance company. The insurance company is just following guidelines that have been in writing in your policy since you had the policy.
