I should clarify that the nutritionists agree, and STRONGLY emphasize not wasting calorie consumption on fruit. They compare it to eating a cookie with a Vitamin.< /p>

Hi---I had surgery the same day as you :-)
Sorry to hear about your complications! Someone once told me to just step on the scale every other week, so that we aren't dwelling on the number. The weight will come off, some weeks more rapidly than others. I'm guessing that once we become a little more active, the weight is going to just melt off.
For me, five days postop, I had already lost 18 pounds. Now the scale hasn't budged in three days.... But I'm not too concerned.
I will be starting on puréed food today, not really sure what exactly I will be having, it seems so weird just preparing two bites of something, Lol.

I was sleeved one week ago today. I know every doctors requirements are different but I need to take A daily Multivitamin, 1200 mg calcium citrate, Vitamin D3 and vitamin B 12.< /p>
Everything is either liquid or chewable. They told me no more softgels, ever again. I started with all the Vitamins after I got home... Didn't need to bring anything to the hospital.
Something I wish I would have known prior to surgery? 1) pain meds were only necessary for 24 hours and 2) One week postop, and I feel completely back to normal :-)
    Good luck!!

I do understand my plan and I will follow it. They also recommend no more carbonated beverages---ever. (Now hopefully nobody else freaks out about that too, Lol) #tooManyBossyPeopleHere

chap stick for dry mouth a pair of comfortable shorts to get rid of the hospital gown so that you walk without being an exhibitionist. slip on shoes (slippers), try not to get anything of the flip flops. Won't help with walking. keep a pillow in the car that will get you home. Helps incisions with bumps on the road. Mouth wash, tooth paste, tooth brush. Sometimes is not included in care package or are flimsy. an extra pair of under garments a very loose pull over shirt, replace the gown. bottle of sugar free Water Enhancer or pkg. of crystal light. You won't be able to drink anything after surgery until you are cleared the next day, but, man, flavored water tastes good. The sooner you get up and walk, the better you will feel the next day. Sip your drinks

I think I waited until about 8 or 9 weeks post op. I tried a filet. I have had filet, ribeye and a good sirloin since then. I eat my steak really rare. Come to think of it I like my fish that way too. Yum, sushi.

I was allowed small amounts of fruit after 3 months. They said to treat it as a dessert and I was encouraged to eat soft skinned fruits (strawberries, blueberries, etc) as they had less sugar. Than being said I do eat half a small banana sometimes or about 1/4 of an apple sliced with some good cheese. I am 8 months post-op. Everything in moderation. The way I see it - God made fruit for us to eat!

I had a two-week liver reduction diet which was pretty much no carbs and high Protein. Then two days of Clear Liquids which was pure torture :-)
To me, that was the hardest part.... Those two days.

I made pureed lentil Soup today. Red lentils, onions, garlic (you need to sweat out the onions and garlic. I did so by adding Water and the teeniest amount of olive oil I could fathom). Make sure to pre soak the red lentils for a bit before starting. Add the red lentils, onions, garlic and water to a Large pot and enough water tocover all the lentils plus more. Lentils get thick as they stew so keep adding water and keep stirring. For seasoning I used salt, pepper, cumin, tumeric to taste. Once the lentils are quite soft, add water and blend it into a pureed soup. Sort of the consistency of pea puree soup or carrot soup. This is a middle eastern recipe and a huge fave of mine.

I never actually pureed any of my food. I had mashed potatoes, smooth Soups, applesauce, yogurt, hummus, Jello, pudding, etc.
I wouldn't puree what the rest of your family is eating if it's something that's not on your plan. For instance, if they're having Pasta, you can't have that even if it's pureed (according to my plan, yours may be different).

I made a puree one time. It was some kind of meat I don't recall with some jarred gravy. I found it disgusting and that was the end of my puree adventure. The lentil Soup sounds good!

If I went the hummus rout what could I eat it with at this stage?
Normally I'd use celery, crackers, carrots before surgery.

I'm currently on full liquids, 5 days post op. I know Protein is the priority---so does this mean eventually steak will be able to be consumed, even if it's just a couple bites? I can't imagine eating it now, but I assume if it's tender enough there won't be a problem? (Can you tell I'm craving to CHEW on something? Haha)

I'm super glad that your surgery went really well, and that you're feeling better! Did you have any gas pains, and if so, how did you relieve them? I'm really nervous about that bit going into my sleeve on Dec. 9.
