Cape Crooner got a reaction from VSGAnn2014 in Does anyone regret their surgery?
There are good foods and bad foods after wls, just like before. And just like before, your diet should consist of 90% good foods.
The difference is, when you eat good or bad foods, you can't eat much. Yesterday I took my mother to lunch and we split a dinner salad. I ate half of my half and she ended up taking half home.
The key is having a disciplined maintenance program. I weigh myself just about every day and if I go over my goal weight, I go back on my low carb 1000/calories day diet.
10 months post opt, I've only gone over goal 3 times. All by less than 1 pound, and never for more than one day.
Yes, I can eat pizza, but seldom do.,,

I was able to eat a piece of pizza about 6 months post opt. Everyone's different. My solid food limit is about 8 ounces.

The reason I asked if you had an attorney is because this sounds like malpractice. But seeing that you're in England and get "free healthcare" from the government, I guess you can't.
Best of luck and I would seek help elsewhere.

This experience is so statistically inconsistent with everyone else I've ever talked to or read about, it's hard to believe. 1. Where did you get your surgery?
    2. Did you all have the same surgeon?
    3. Have you got an attorney?
Has anyone else ever heard of anything like this following VSG?
My surgeon told us that about 2% had complications. After reading comments from hundreds of patients on a variety of forums, I'd say that number is HIGH. I can't recall anyone but you!

Good - what the Nut recommends
Bad - what you reach for after a few drinks

I guess I have no idea what you're talking about. I was talking about WLS and my hospital presented 5 years post surgery stats and they were similar to that of a root canal.

Sorry, I don't buy it. WLS is a multi-billion dollar industry in a country's where shyster lawyers like John Edwards convinced a jury that MS was the result of not enough c-sections.
If WLS wasn't as safe as a root canal over the long haul, we'd be hearing about it on 60 Minutes, let alone every forum we follow.

I agree on pants first. I was a 44" waist and didn't buy new pants until I was down 50 lbs. I bought 40's, 38's, and now 36's.
I was a discount store shopper and never spent more than $25 on pants.
I did TOTAL PURGES at goal. Gave away eight 55 gallon trash bags full of clothes.
Looking back at my pre-wls weight gains, I never averaged more than 2-3 lbs a year, so I figure I'm 5+ years away from 38's worst case!

Two that I never get tired of:
    1. The way all 36" waist pants just fit (some a little loose). When I wore 44" pants, I'd have to try on a dozen different brands to find one that fit (no, 46's didn't fit well either). Now all just fit!
    2. When I eat out I order anything I want knowing my sleeve won't let me eat more than 8 ounces. My favorite is fish and chips. I eat about 6 ounces of fish and 2 ounces of chips - then I'm done and I start passing food to everyone else.
    So sweet!

    Cape Crooner reacted to Beck90 in Those who drink diet pop post-op {Only nice comments PLEASE}
So.. LOL I started this topic before surgery about drinking diet pop after surgery.. I thought you guys might like to know my experience after being sleeved!!!
I'm 7 weeks out and was cleared to try all foods at my visit with NUT. I was also told that I'm doing much better than most of her patients who have the same surgery (losing more, more healthy choices, more exercise).
But throughout this time I have missed my diet pepsi something fierce.. and it's not simply a caffeine addiction or a pop addiction - until yesterday I hadn't had a sip of pop in 10 weeks and I had no withdrawal symptoms or problems giving it beyond just.. it tastes good.. but nevertheless I've been missing the taste... the same way you'd miss the taste of lemonade or any other drink you like..
So yesterday we went to eat at Cheddars and I took the plunge.. When we were ready to leave and after we'd eaten (and sat and talked for about an hour) I asked for a diet pop to go. They brought me a roughly small medium to go cup. I took slow sips. I did not have any pain or issues whatsoever other than needing to sip it very slow (for the gas to leave my stomach) and doing a lot of burping LOL and so there you have it. the OP can indeed drink diet pop (through a straw GASP!) upon occasion without a problem apparently lol.

Cape Crooner got a reaction from Squeek2000 in Alcohol post op:it's possible? When, how much?
I have endured many slings and arrows on this forum, so you can check out my posts if you'd like.
    Here's what I know:
    1. The number one issue early on is preventing ulcers. The sleeve is fairly well healed after 6 weeks and that seems to be the earliest point any doctor suggests a return to alcohol consumption.
    2. Transfer addition is the number 2 issue. I think it's very serious for people who were food addicts, not so much for people who became obese for other reasons. My test for addiction syndrome is to ask yourself the question:
" ...after I start [eating/smoking/drinking] the thing I'm addicted too, do I almost mindlessly consume more?"
If this is your mindset, you could be at risk for alcohol transfer addiction.
    3. Alcohol has calories that can easily cause obesity along with the slider foods we tend to go to once we get drunk. My advice is to avoid high calorie (sugary) drinks, plan what you're gonna eat after you've had a few, and log it all so you can figure out why your Weightloss failed - if it happens down the road.
Me, I started back slowly after week 7. I followed my guidelines above and since then, I've gone from 225 to 182 (8 lbs below goal).
What you drink and eat matters greatly. You can easily consume thousand of calories in a few hours drinking sweet cocktails and washing down chips!
Like everything, there is no free lunch...

Cape Crooner got a reaction from MrsSugarbabe in Three Weight Loss Surgery Maintenance Models - Abstinence, No Dieting, or Mindful Moderation
I have seen this study before. It mostly seems to talk about diabetes.
In one of my pre opt sessions, I asked the nut about failure.
For what it's worth, she said it was generally caused by grazing on bad foods. Eating small amounts of bad food continuously all day long.
As I think about model 2 above, it seems that it could lead to this sort of failure. Imagine eating a snickers bar every 45 minutes?
Face it, we all got here by eating too much of the wrong thing, even though our brains told us not too.
If we "pretty much eat what we want", how long will it be before we start eating more often and allowing our palette (rather than our brain) decide what we eat?

I used spices post opt to liven up my limited menu. My first treat was refried Beans with a little melted cheese. I'd add either Stubbs spicy BBQ Sauce or Green Tabasco. I think spices are a great way to enhance Protein.

I suppose there is a small hunger reduction, but after 9 months, it's mainly the restriction.
I avoid hunger the same way I did pre-surgery, avoid sugar and white carbs as long as possible each day. Protein and fat keep my appetite at bay.

I'm starting to see the questioning die down which is great. I don't feel like it's a total lie unless they ask me outright "did you have surgery?"
What's weird has been that the 4 people who asked directly are people I barely know and certainly not close friends (and I have over a hundred close friends)...
