Deep breath...just like they taught you in the Lamaze class...this too shall pass. It stinks. But I swear you will puke if you try it at this point. (I did, I puked).

I'm 3 1/2 weeks on liquids, including the preop liquid diet & Im starting to lose it I think. I have 5 more days on liquids & then I Transition to soft solids. I've really done pretty good so far. Cooking for my family and then having my broth or Protein Shake or 4-5 oz of Soup with no lumps, bumps, or chunks.
Tonight I feel like I'm losing it...my husband ordered two large pizzas for him and the kiddos & they smell and look SO good. I got a little snippy and was like....I'm so tired of liquids! I want to CHEW something. Holy crap! This is hard. As I write this my husband is on his 5th piece!!! I'm sipping green pea soup. God, please let me get through this without hurting someone ????

Becase too few medical professionals don't realize coffee is not an diuretic. Moderate use doesn't dehydrate you...http://www.abc.net.au/health/talkinghealth/factbuster/stories/2014/02/27/3951831.htm
That said...that satisfying burn in the gut that only comes from a great cup of joe in the morning...yeah that's stomach acid. That's not conducive to healing a stomach that was cut. So give it a month to heal. Respect the sleeve.

I know it is not nearly the same thing, but today I thought I was going to DIE if I didn't get some flipping chocolate. I had chocolate in my desk drawer, but I resisted. Instead I went in the kitchen and got some hot green tea with a Splenda in it and went on....I skipped the candy and went on about my business!!!!!

The biggest tip I can give...give yourself time. Do NOT expect results over night. Stalls are going to happen. It's part of it...but I promise, if you are following the program, the weight will come off. When you aren't losing pounds, a lot of times you are losing inches. Take a before picture. I didn't and regret that. Wished i would have.
    Good luck.

If you live near a Sonic, get yourself a bag of sonic ice for your freezer (or at least a couple of cups of it). They have the best crushed ice and it really helped me to stay hydrated the first week after surgery.

Tomorrow is my big day! I am very excited, and a bit nervous. Not really nervous about starting my new life, more nervous about the actual getting put to sleep, and the procedure. Worried about possible complications and things of that sort. Once the surgery is done, I am sure I will be here on the boards continually for questions, advice, tips and tricks. I am very glad that there is a place where we can get support on our journeys.

You can do this! Really think about what is going on. If you want to eat but not hungry, are you bored? If so find something to do. Go clean. Go walk. Go volunteer somewhere. Are you stressed? If so do some stress relief. Go walk. Call someone. Find a way to work through your stress. Do not waste this great opportunity. Your feelings will pass. It will get easier I promise!!!!!!! Just do not give up!

I get it. It's obvious that we are/were fat, but to put it out there in actual numbers is embarrassing! I've been fairly open about saying that I've lost over 100 lbs when people ask, but there is part of me that thinks, "Oh, no... now they know that I was well over 200 lbs before!" Of course, they're not blind, I'm sure they were aware of it, though not in terms of exact numbers.
I mentioned it in another post, but so far my favorite comment has been when a friend saw me a few months after surgery and said, "Is it just me, or have you lost a F**K-TON of weight?!" I was still quite a ways from goal then, so I replied, "No, more like half of a f**k-ton so far."

I'm too scared to bite them. Might sound totally ridiculous but my head goes oh gosh what if you swallowed one and it's not smaller than an eraser or it scratches something. My heads a strange place at times.

I told my kids. They are 8 & 12. I wanted them to be aware of the changes and be able to understand what was happening. They were pretty cool with it. We had discussions about it prior. It mainly consisted of, " Mommy, we think you are beautiful like you are" & "will you still be soft for us to lay our head on?" ????

I'm 5'0 and the smallest I've been in my "adult" years is about 165 ish...I'm 30 lbs from that now at 196, but getting too thin was a concern of mine and my husbands also. He met me at 180 ish and likes me with some meat on my bones, so to speak. I think at our heights, a healthy weight for us is 115-130 ish. I can't imagine being that small either...
As for others saying your wasting away, I think it's because they are used to seeing you at a certain size, so of course, the smaller you get, the more you will seem too small. They will just have to get used to the new you!

As my hubby told me repeatedly...you didn't gain all that weight over night...it's not all going to come off overnight. It's a marathon, not a race. You are doing great. Look at the big picture. When you are not losing pounds, a lot of time you are losing inches. It'll get there. Be patient.

jembell01 reacted to Emilie.Lancaster in One month post-op today.
One month after a gastric sleeve.... Ups and downs.
I'm eating all kinds of things, in tiny amounts, and sipping. 23 pounds down since surgery day, so, not too quick, not too slow.
I now take two chewable Multivitamins, calcium+D, and Biotin. I am off the pain meds, but I've saved some percosets for when I'm feeling better... *wink* I just took my last prilosec. I wonder how that will shake out.
Physically, I feel mostly back together, but not 100%. I teach 7th grade, and I have enough energy to teach all day, so a win there in the recovery column, but I'm having a devil of a time finding all the words I know that I know. Several files in my brain have bad directories now. Very frustrating, but I have hope that it will resolve soon. Stoopid anesthesia.... My incisions are still angry red, but totally sealed up. I had a pesky suture that kept poking out of one, but I finally clipped it off below the skin and it covered and closed itself. I realize just now that the itching has gone down dramatically in the last day or so. Win. My waist and thighs are drawing in, but that makes my flabby lower abdomen look bigger! I know it's melting, too, but not as quickly, and relativity is a bitch.
I'm tracking all my foods, and I'm hovering around 8 to 9 hundred calories on a good day, sometimes less, but I am getting consistent patterns established. I can go on this way indefinitely, I think.
In 30 minutes, on an empty stomach, I can bring 12-16 ounces of Water. I can totally feel the water flow through the pylorus. More solid things, say, cottage cheese, I can take about 4 ounces, but I need to take a break in the middle. Fish, I can get 2-3 ounces in, and no more. And it must be very wet fish - not overcooked. I threw up once, and it was overcooked trout. I had slime first, and when I could not stand the discomfort any more, my husband said, just get it over with. I don't like to vomit. Myself needed convincing, but I felt better after. I've only puked once on the soft foods, so I count that as a win, too. I've tried some other more solids, too. A bite of carrot even. No problems. But I don't want to push it.
I'm cooking and shopping out of habit, and my freezer is FULL. I think I will just stop cooking altogether. What I cooked tonight will literally take me a week to eat.
Maybe over sharing here, but the first real poop was rough. A week after surgery, we were shopping and I realized what needed to happen. I made a nice normal poo, and then felt nausea. I think the intestines had been in a shock and the waking to do their job was too much for them. It's gotten better since, but its days between the little poops. Small eats means small outs. Doesn't bother me much. Similarly, sex was a cautious adventure, too. A week out, we managed a gentle try, three weeks after surgery, all systems were ready for anything. Win.
And, as always when I am on a diet, I want to put hot sauce on everything. However, I don't think this is a good idea just yet.
I am curious as to what comes next and to see how this goes. At one point several years ago, I was 293 pounds (5'11"). I worked hard and dieted down to 187. That was impossible to maintain through a divorce, a brief time of homelessness, a career change, and a new relationship. I'm at 227 as of this morning. I'm pretty sure that losing some more is in the cards, but how much more? At my lowest, I was thin looking. Some said too thin, but 10 or more pounds would not change that look much, not at my height. My doc says 149 is a healthy weight for me, but I think that is WAY too thin. I'd be a bag of bones! My boobs would be two empty purses with olives at the bottom! So, goal... 175, and then reevaluate? That's 52 pounds from here, and if I go 2 pounds per week that gets me there by summer. We shall see...
Lastly, my husband is taking this opportunity to get himself back on track. He was banded 7-ish years ago. He dropped 150 pounds, but he's put 25 or so back on in the last year. We've been happy and eating like newlyweds... Anyway. He's been super supportive. His goal is 210, from his staring point of 275. Doing the math, from collective high weights to goals, 400 & 293 to 210 & 175, we will have lost a collective 308 pounds. That's like two people... It's us getting ourselves in better health together.
