@@lopeg748 I hope you read my post above. I started at a higher weight than you and only lost 14.8 pounds my first month. I still got to goal and I'm now maintaining. You aren't doing anything wrong. Some people just lose slower than others. Doesn't mean you won't still get where you're going.

Comparing yourself to others is a recipe for frustration and disappointment. This is a marathon, not a sprint. I "only" lost 14 pounds my first month and "only" 8 pounds the next month, and "only" 6 pounds a month for a while after that, and eventually "only" 2 pounds a month. You know where all those "only"s got me? To my goal weight where I've been maintaining for over 5 months.

YES!!! The EXACT same experience. I am 5' 6" and I was around 250 pounds at my highest, 230 pounds at the time of surgery. People always said, "You carry your weight well. You do not look that big." Then I received a lot of negativity for wanting this surgery. People would say, "You're not that big. You can do it on your own." Ummm, I have been obese for 10 years, and despite the fact that I exercise (via step aerobics and running--3 miles), I have not been able to do it on my own. Well, I did not listen to anyone who was a nay-sayer, I did the sleeve and I LOVE my sleeve. Gaining control of the portions of food that I consumed made it so much easier to transition to a diet that weeded out bad foods (90% of the time!), and teach myself to consume quality-body-mind-loving food. Exercise became easier without all the excess weight, and I was able to take my fitness to a whole different level.
So, don't give power to the negative Nancy's!!! You know yourself and your body, and if this is what you want, you've got tons of people on here who've got your back!

Is he threatening you somehow - "you'll make horrible fatty dinners or else!"
Make what you feel comfortable making for your family. If they want something else, then he is a grown adult (I'm assuming) that knows how to read the back of a package or find a restaurant on his own, right?
But the big picture is that he is being extremely unsupportive and selfish, and undermining you - saying if you can't do this, you should get out if you can't provide him what he wants... if he's husband/relative/significant other, maybe you need to assess just what you're getting out of this relationship if he can't be happy and supportive of you having this surgery?
And it is VERY telling that you yourself are unclear about your relationship with this partner - you call him "the guy that I am with" which is distant and cold - and a weird way to define a relationship that you're happy with. Do some deep thinking and try to talk to this guy and see if you're both really, truly happy and supportive of each other, or maybe it's time to go your separate ways if this is the level of intimacy that you currently have.
Maybe you should leave and go stay with relatives... and then make the leaving permanent and go find a nice place for yourself and your kid(s) without this guy.

I haven't had my surgery yet. I was a gym rat for most of my life, also a fire fighter and lived for training. Now that I have all this extra weight, everything hurts! I am especially aware of that now that I cannot take NSAIDs. I work long hours and struggle to get in the gym on my 12+ hour work days. I know that I need to revamp my schedule to get going but the joint pain is a real downer. I am hoping that with weight loss my joints won't hurt so bad and that will be motivation to get in there on a regular basis. I miss it. It hurts now and I feel lame not being able to power through like I should. Ugh.... Please tell me, did your joint pain lessen post op? How did it feel physically to get back in there post op?

Thanks all. I'm actually excited to think that I will get my active lifestyle back after surgery. I'm just a bit nervous about recovering in between workouts. As it is, it takes me much longer to recover than it used to. I love lifting, but now know that lifting heavy like I used to may not be the best approach, initially. I'll have to work up to it I guess. I do love to swim and may do laps on my days off from work. Thanks again everyone!

I am in the early stages of preparing for surgery and I was wondering about this. I'll be ok going down in cup size, I am afraid of the hang though. Lol. Not that they don't hang now!
