vanassa11 reacted to SuperDave in 1 year surgery anniversary, before and after pics.
It's been about 3 1/2 years since I decided I had to make changes in my life. I hit 450 pounds and realized I was no longer in control.
I dieted on my own for the first 2 years, and did okay. I lost about 120 pounds by simply eating less and walking. Eventually that was no longer enough and I stopped losing, so I started a bariatric program. I had 6 months of supervised weight loss, and having the accountability made me work harder. I lost another 30 pounds in those 6 months. My goal was to be under 300 by my surgery date, November 10, 2014. When I weighed in at the hospital that morning, I was 299.9. Just barely there, but I did it!
This week is my 1 year surgery anniversary. When I weighed this morning I was 189.9. Another 110 pounds gone. So to Celebrate, I'm posting a before and after picture. The first one is from 2011. I'm not quite at my highest weight there, but as I'm sure many of you can understand, there aren't a lot of pictures of me to choose from. I always avoided having them taken. The second one was taken this morning. Not a great picture, but you get the idea!

    And 260 pounds later:

Its been an amazing journey so far. My decision to have this surgery did not come lightly and I did lots of research and thinking before deciding it was a good fit for me. I have had many triumphs and victories throughout my 7 months since surgery, but reaching my 100 lb weight loss was the biggest (pun intended) for me! When I stepped on the scale and saw my 100# I cried. Happy tears of course. I am proud of my journey and cant wait to see what more this wonderful life changing surgery has for me in the future! I still have a ways to go, but excited to get there.
The photo I attached is from my monthly photos that I take in the same spot in my house. The first photo was 1 week post op and the second picture is from today100# down!
What has been your biggest victory since surgery?

Hi, I would like to introduce myself. I am from Poland 44 year old woman and had my gastric bypass surgery 14th of October 2015.
Bariatric surgeries are not as popular in Poland as in US and finding information is really difficult. I couldn’t find any polish supportive groups as well. I find your forum really helpful and it’s my base source of information about post op proceeding.
Hope with you support I will manage to achieve my goals.
I am also wondering if someone from Poland is on this forum. See you on the forum !

In general since I was a kid my ass and I have not really had a good relationship. I guess we tolerated each other, neither really liking the other one. Since surgery, my ass has evolved into four distinct categories.
    1) Normal, just like everyone else, a good BM once a day, and all is well.
    2) Constipated, however I feel it coming on and counter with Prescription Miralax, Colace and MoM if it's bad enough. I got that under control.
    3) Volcano Ass. No other way to put it, I get a few rumbles, which is a sign to rush to the nearest restroom and my ass erupts, there is no telling what is coming out. Things I never ate appear. I swear I have no idea how my ass produces the things it does during a volcano stage.
    4) Emergency evacuate. This is rare, but I have had it, along I think with everyone else all my life. It's like after eating a bad scallop, and about an hour or two later, your body goes into emergency evacuate mode. There is something inside it does not want and it is going to use every or-face available to get rid of the unwanted matter.
So, if you find yourself and your ass not getting along, know you are not alone. Tonight we discovered that the Healthy Choice mayo I got, my ass does not like. So that chicken salad I made, is now a real question mark.

I used peroxide/baking soda to whiten my teeth (brushed with it after toothpaste) and it worked. Also sometimes poured peroxide on my toothbrush instead of Water and added toothpaste.

I think that it's important to understand that there is risk involved with any surgery and RNY is no exception. There are heartbreaking stories. No one can ever be absolutely certain that the surgery will be successful or that there will not be complications, some quite serious. It's also important to understand that there is risk involved with obesity and with the numerous secondary problems, some quite serious, that often result from being obese. There simply are no guarantees, no absolutes, whichever way you go. I'm almost 33 weeks out, 173 lbs (from a high of 285), and I'd do it again in a second. My wife is 40 weeks out, 199 lbs, and would do it again in a second. My brother is 14 years post-op, 174 lbs, and would do it again in a second. My best friend is 6 years post-op, 225 lbs and celebrates his new life every day.
Like many others, I did exhaustive research before making the decision to go under the knife. Based on the most current information available from the very best, most respected, most experienced sources I could find, I concluded that the odds are overwhelmingly in my favor for a successful long term outcome.

I've lost 130 lbs and am now in a size 6/small; I actually like myself for the first time ever in my 52 years of life;I've never been healthier or happier! It's NOT the easy way out by any means--it's work like you've never done before--but it is soooo worth it! That's all for now--keep up the good work y'all!

My story... Where do I begin... October 2014 I had enough. My blood pressure was spiraling out of control and I had to do something. I went to a seminar here in Columbia, SC and was sold that the gastric bypass was what I needed to change my life. Like many others I had so many failed attempts at losing weight. I began my journey then. My insurance required 6 months of office visits and a battery of other tests as most do. My 6 months ended up being 8 months because I was unable to get a visit several months. Once I was finished my lab work came back showing I was anemic which pushed my surgery back several more months to fix the problem. I was finally submitted to my insurance company early September and got the call around Sept 28th that I was approved and my surgery date would be October 13th. My surgery went really great but I ended up staying in the hospital for 4 days as oppose to two because my sinuses started to drain and they made me really nauseous and I couldn't hold anything down. So I'm now 5 days post-op and I can't wait to get back to the old me... Oh and since the surgery my blood pressure has been normal. Go figure!!!

Thank you God for allowing my surgeon to be knowledgeable enough to perform my surgery, thank you for guiding the nurses, workers, and every one else who was a part of helping me on April 8, 2015!
Thank you God for their knowledge and for passing it along to me to be able to live a healthier life!
Thank you God for this website, for more reasons than one! I pray for all of those who are having problems, or struggling with something that you will guide them through the storm!
Life is not a guarantee but Heaven can be! I'm so thankful I have a spot reserved for me there! Do you?
I truly am thankful to God, and just want to share my experience with others! I'm sure I'm not alone here, and even though I know some will not agree with me, it's ok!

vanassa11 reacted to McButterpants in Pre op liquid diet
My pre-op diet consisted of 2 shakes and one lean and green meal (4-6 ounces of lean meat and a veggie) for two weeks.
I was allowed to use milk in my shakes, so I opted to mix them with Water instead, so I could use the milk in my Decaf coffee (I was required to be caffeine free 2 weeks before surgery). I was allowed 2-3 strawberries in my shakes or about 1/8 cup of blueberries - seriously, that's not much, but it helps bulk them up. Also, add some ice - that helps bulk them up as well.
I purchased different kinds of Torani sugar-free syrups to mix up the flavors...one of my favorites was powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chocolate Splendor, 1 teaspoon of Hershey's cocoa powder, 4-5 ice cubes, Torani sugar free Peppermint Syrup. Tastes like a Thin Mint Girl Scout cookie!
(I always mix all the ingredients together except for the Protein powder - once everything is mixed, I add the powder and whiz for 10-15 seconds - it's less frothy that way).
I also drank copious amounts of decaf green tea sweetened with Splenda. It was a life saver! It helped with the hunger.

I can't believe it! We're almost to the date scheduling! It's about to get really real!

I was a squatting fool for the first 12 months after surgery. Still lost all my booty. But all of a sudden it's starting to come back and I'm not doing much just taking the stairs every now and then. I have some lose skin on my belly, arms and thighs but not too much. I still want to get some work done eventually but I'm in no hurry. My husband is just happy I finally have some shape back there he was little upset about that part. Lol
