Am I the only one
Am I the only one that has this problem? When i workout(run) and then put on regular clothes the thighs of my jeans are so tight that I almost can't get them on. The problem almost discourages me from working out or from wearing any kind of clothes that aren't stretchy. My husband doesn't understand, he just keeps telling to keep it up and it should go away. The only way it goes way is if i stop doing any kind of exercise, then of course my jeans are so loose I have to go get new ones. So now I have a pair of new ones a size smaller and can't get into them because I'm back to exercising.

Want to start running...need encouragement
I love running. I want to run the chicago marathon, but I thought I would sign up for the Chicago Rock and Roll half marathon. The run is August 1, 2010 and I was just wondering if anyone here who has had band surgery ever ran a half marathon or a full marathon. My husband is worried about me running that kind of distance with the lap band plus not being able to comsume all the calories that are required for a distance runner.

I purchase alot of fitness clothes. I find it easy to purchase fitness clothes because I know what I like and what I want them to do. Just like I like buying scrubs for work, I know what I like. When it comes to real clothes I have a small problem with that. Just a couple pairs of jeans and sweaters at a time. I have more shoes of all styles, handbags, fitness clothes, and scrubs, then anything else in my closet.

I had given up wearing makeup even when I was bigger. I would only wear it when I had to go somewhere like doctor's appointments, and things like that. I went finally one day last week just to purchase 1 eyeshadow color, that's all I wanted. The lady offered a complete makeover, so I said sure. I'm so glad I did. I loved how I looked, and it was so simple and easy that I can even do it at home...and I do. Tell that moment I think I was just trying to blend into the background of life. I now look at me and think I'm pretty. My 17 year old daughter calls me hot momma now. My husband didn't like the makeover, to made up for him, but now that I do it myself it's not as cakey and thick as it looked when I got home that day.

I have the same issue because I only purchase a couple of things to get me through. Like I have 2 pairs of jeans that I like, a couple of long sleeved shirts and that would be it for winter wear. I don't purchase a lot of anything because I know that I will just be another size in a couple of months so what's the point. When I purchased all my nursing scrubs, I bought drawstring pants.

Thank you for slapping me around and giving me my aha moment. I say that because I see all those camercials and think I should try that or order this, buy that,...You are so right we don't need all those things...we have the best thing ever, and sometimes I think we all forget to use it to our advantage. Really though thanks for waking me up.

Yep out of the walking boot and even ran a couple days last week. Easy runs slowed down the pace and I feel great. Just now the weather here in Indiana is turning cold and I'm very cold blooded and hate trying to exercise let alone move when it's this cold. It must be my loose week because I'm eating all kinds of stupid stuff and have add a couple pounds...I call it water bloat...it will be gone next week. Thanks for asking about the leg, I'm fine just trying now to find my motivation, and trying to figure out how to place me back in the equation of life.

I agree my band is snug one day and less snug the next. I also go through the 1 week thing, that's where I really have to stop and think about what I'm putting into my mouth at that time, because I want the stuff like ice cream and junk. I thought it was just something that I noticed, it's nice to know that I'm not the only one.

Dr. Stanish @ Methodist Hospital
Chris is great at working with the insurance companies, and all insurance companies make everyone jump through fire hoops. Once they realize how much money they will save by you have the surgery then they ok it. They save money by not having to pay for medications that you may take now, and other health issues you may have now. I say that because the reason why I had band surgery was because I had thyroid problems, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, and was starting to have to take insulin. I take NO medication now, not even my thyroid medication. I'm a Vitamin and exercise junkie....I found that I love running and I love me. I hope all goes well tomorrow, and that everything works out for you. Life only gets better!!!!

anyone from indiana?
The only things I can say is take everything slow, because you didn't gain weight quickly. The band is a tool and it takes you to make the the tool work the way it is suppose to. And don't always listen to everything that everyone here has to say...some people can just be mean sometimes. Good luck and enjoy your new to life, don't be afraid to spread your wings and fly.

Greek Yogurt?
the walmart super store by me where I grocery shop carries it. I mix the vanilla flavored with sliced almonds that they sell in the produce department.

about your hair and nails mine did the same thing Dr. Stanish told me to take biotin 1000mg. Now I have to have a haircut once a month and my nails grow strong. I live in Valparaiso, I have Dr. Stanish and team in Merrillville. I have been to one support meeting and that's only because I'm friends with a bunch of bypass patients, so I only went to visit. I haven't seen them in a while, maybe I should go to support just so I could say Hi. I just love everything about Dr. Stanish...and his team. I had my surgery 1-18-07, then 7-6-09 I had port and tube replacement. I have been asked would I do it again...yes I would...and I guess I did. I see them once a month, get weight and measured every 2 months and have volumes of food/exercise logs.

Dr. Stanish @ Methodist Hospital
:wub:Dr. Stanish is also my doctor at Methodist in Merrillville. I love him and his staff. He did my lapband 1-18-07, and my port replacement 7-6-09. I still see him once a month, weighted and measured every 2 months, and I have volumes of food/exercise logs. He's really hot too!!!

Exercise frequency
Just remember to buy a good pair of running shoes, and just because a person or magazine says that they are a good pair of shoes don't always take their words for it. Try them on and run around the store in them...it's ok to look goofy, because if not you will be hurting later, and I now know this for a fact. I had the wrong pair even though they sized me and everything.

you had a breast reduction I must have lost all my weight in my boobs because I'm looking to have implants and a lift when I reach goal or when the husbands Harley is paid off.

Exercise frequency
You can always start out just walking on the treadmill or outside. I started out going to curves for a year, then I felt I need more, so I joined another gym (I call that one a real gym), and was there a year. I then got tired of the drive I had to do plus life was starting to get in the way. So my husband bought us a treadmill and elliptical. I switch off, but I really like jogging/running on the treadmill, that's when I decided that I want to run marathons one day. So you just need to find something that you like doing; dancing, swimming, walking. It's all up to you. Good job though on loosing so much with just diet alone, that's a accomplishment to be proud of. Don't be so hard on yourself.

Exercise frequency
Thank for all of the advise about my annoying pain problems. Can anyone help me with the annoying plateau problem. I want to know if I keep going something will just finally give because I'm tired of waiting for "clearance to land", and I would really like to land in an area that I was once in before my port started leaking and I gained back 10 pounds, and had replacement surgery. I just want off the plateau marry-go-round. Some inches are changing but the weight is in the crapper. Yeah it's a mood.

Exercise frequency
My shoes are new about a month old. I was measured and everything. The shoes that I replaced were to small but I ran intervels in them all the time and never had pain like this, so maybe it's the shoes, but they are suppose to be the best running shoes...new balance 1063. They just keep telling me it's the muscle toning and changing. On the other hand I love how my stomach is starting to look from all this running.

Exercise frequency
I run a straight run for an hour then 30 minutes I walk and jog up hill 4-6 days a week. My problem is that I'm stuck in a plateau and it's making me crazy. I go up I go down, I'm circling waiting for clearance to land lol. I just don't know if I should continue and just keep praying that one day I broke the pattern. I also have a problem with my lower inside calf area being so sore, I don't know what or why. I have been told it's the muscle using the fat, building def, and bone density. All I know is that it hurts from the time I'm done running on the treadmill until I go to bed at night. When I wake up in the morning I feel fine then a little sore during the run, but by the time I'm almost done with the run I feel fine then it turns sore.

Have you had a leak in your port/tubing and had to have it replaced?
pickles123, The port is the place that leaks that and the tube. With the port it is a self sealing material and if you stick a needle into it to many times then it will develop a slow leak because it won't seal all the way. That's what the doctor thought was my problem but it was the tube. Since I was there and he was there he just replaced the port and shortened the tube. My problem is very unique because I don't have a spleen and the big scar I have runs right where they have to place the port and tube. Well the scar tissue was pinching the tube because the tube was a little to long. That's what the doctor told me when I came to in recovery. Everything is fine now, and he even cleaned up the appearance of my really big scar from my spleen.

Have you had a leak in your port/tubing and had to have it replaced?
restlessmonkey, I just mean that I catch a lot of hell from everyone at the clinic that I go to because I love my "DQ". The doctor thinks he's funny when he tells me that's what brought me to him in the beginning, and then I think he's probably right...but I still eat what I want when I want because I'm the only one that has to pay for it when the scale doesn't move that month.

Have you had a leak in your port/tubing and had to have it replaced?
I didn't think I could do the 2 weeks of liquids again either, but then I thought of it like this if I had to it was just going to give me a jump start, and that I was getting a second chance to do better this time. I only say that because I have my moments when I eat things that shouldn't be ate ever again. I had some guilt moments thinking that it was my fault that the port broke...if I wouldn't have ate that or done that I wouldn't be broken now. So when I would go through those moments it was always better to look at it as a redo.

Have you had a leak in your port/tubing and had to have it replaced?
Trish, I would go in get a fill be fine the couple of day after and then be back to eating everything i seen. I started gaining weight, 14 pounds to be exact, that's going away slower then it went on...of course. Getting a port or tube replaced is way easier then the full surgery. Nothing to eat after midnight the night before surgery, they go in where your port is and that's it. I went home right after I woke up in recovery, liquids for a couple of days then right back to food. Just take it slow on the types of food. My doctor filled my band during surgery to make sure the new port worked and that my band wasn't leaking. So since surgery almost 6 weeks ago have had great restriction, and I never had great restriction in the beginning, i would get a fill every month when I saw the doctor in the beginning. Hope that helps or at least answers some questions.

It's been over a month since I had my port replaced and my tubing shortened. I'm back on track of loosing weight. When I first got the band my doctor was filling once a month every month up until the day I had replacement. I have seen the doctor since surgery and I have had the best restriction ever, and have no fills since the one that he did during surgery. I LOVE MY NEW PORT!!!
