Ninamonina reacted to 2goldengirl in 1 Year Post Op Failure
First, you are NOT a failure. Yes, you may have things you want to do differently, but a Detour along your journey doesn't mean you can't get back on track.
Honestly, I would get some counseling to explore why you are self-sabotaging. There may be something about being successful that is scary for you.

Thank you for all the encouragement. I just have to say that a huge part of my success is that my husband has committed to a healthier lifestyle too. (He did not have WLS but we are eating healthy and working out.)
This picture shows how far we both have come!

Ninamonina reacted to JMarshall in Can I eat watermelon?
I am advocating for the OP to follow the instructions his medical team gave him post op. His surgeon gave him the OK to consume the fruit so who am I to state anything different? I am simply trying to give advice about consuming watermelon after surgery after being approved by a medical professional . Let's get back to the original question which was essentially " is it OK to eat watermelon after surgery ". The short answer is yes. Sent from my Nexus 6 using the BariatricPal App

I understand your point about calories after surgery, but when you think about how much a person can really consume 1 month post op it's really not a problem. The amount of watermelon that would have to be consumed to gain weight would be impossible for someone 1 month post op(or in this case weeks post op). All sugar is not bad, nor is all carbs bad. I could understand your point of view if we were talking about Gummy bears but we are talking about a fruit that has Vitamins and amino acids that will benefit recovery. In the grand scheme of things I don't think consuming watermelon will derail Weight Loss or slow it down. Just my 2 cents.

Watermelon has less sugar than other melons. 1/2 cup has less than 5 net carbs. It's loaded with nutrients. If you're going to have a craving - it's not a bad one to have.

Ninamonina reacted to Psychsnob in I would give anything for a Diet Coke...
An update: today I "caved" and got a small diet coke, planning to just sip it. IT WAS DISGUSTING!!!!!! After three tiny sips I threw it away. I can't describe it but I guess it was just bizarrely sweet. I guess this is a good thing - like finally breaking up with a boyfriend that is really bad for you!

2 month update!
Man, this is seriously the best thing I've ever done for myself. Weight is currently 235. I finally broke through my stall! I am feeling great now that I am healed from my hysterectomy. I am back to running/walking and lifting weights. I truly feel better than ever!
This is a good problem to have, but my smallest jeans are getting too big for me...which means I need to venture into the regular women's sizes. I have tried on probably 30 pair of jeans in the past few days with no success yet on finding the perfect pair, but I'm sure I will find something. Nevertheless, it is so fun shopping in the non-plus size stores again.
I am starting to get a lot of comments about my weight loss, too. It's like people are finally noticing now that I am down 50+ pounds

Just checking in!
I am now 8 days post op. And guess what? The scale still hasn't moved since I got home from the hospital 6 days ago. Good grief, someone take this scale away from me! Surely it has to move some time! I am following the diet to a T, so it has to happen eventually. Keeping the faith
Other than that, my stomach rumbles and grumbles are continuing. I *think* I have concluded that it isn't really hunger pains -- that it is a spasm of some sort. It seems to happen more when I am eating something a little thicker like yogurt vs. a liquid.
That's all for now. Feeling really good and stomach soreness is all but gone, which is a huge help.

Time to update:
I went home on the evening after my surgery. I was going to stay in the hospital that night, but I started feeling better that evening, so I posted to be in the comfort of my own home. I was afraid of being dehydrated, but so far so good.
Day 2 and 3 post op were BAD. So weak. So nauseated. Couldn't drink. WAs horrible.
Day 4, I feel like I have turned the corner. I was able to get a shower today. Made some Protein pudding to eat (which was AMAZING). I am doing some laundry and going to take a walk in the sun in a bit. I can honestly say that I was regretting this decision, up until today.
The only thing I can still complain about besides still feeling weak (which is to be expected), are these crazy hunger pain feelings. I have been told that they aren't really hunger pains, that it is acid. But I am on an acid reducer already, so not sure. Hopefully my body will adjust.
Oh, and my weight. I weighed 268 this morning. Started at 288 first day of 2 week liquid pre-op.

I got extra medication for the acidity and it is gone . No pain . They also removed the drain for a pocket on my belly. Way better.

Ninamonina reacted to sleevedsami in Pre-op Liquid Diet
My diet is 3 Protein shakes and a light meal, like a frozen weight watchers or healthy choice meal. Unlimited broth and Jello and Water. No caffeine. It's pretty easy for the most part. They said my meal should be 450 cals or less, so I get the 200 cal meals and eat one for lunch and one for dinner. I feel so bad about it!! I wonder what the difference is though whether I eat the 450 split up or all at once

Ninamonina reacted to katanne in I've been scheduled but...
I don't have my surgery date yet, but yes, I do feel sad that I've gotten to the point of wanting/needing WLS. There's no getting around the fact that I ate too much of the wrong foods for the wrong reasons, over and over again. If I could take back all those bad decisions or unlearn all the bad habits without surgery, I for sure would do it.
But I can't. That's the reality I find myself in right now. I'm viewing WLS as a second chance, one that comes with a lot of gratitude but some measure of regret.

Ninamonina reacted to nicole8883 in 2 week Pre-op diet struggles
Hi everyone,
I'm new to this!
My surgery is scheduled for 3/23.
However, I'm on a two week pre-op diet consisting of:
• Breakfast - Protein Shake
• snack- Protein Bar, Greek yogurt, 2 hard boiled eggs, 2-4 oz of turkey with 1 oz of cheese, 2-4 oz of tuna, or 4 oz of shrimp.
Lunch- Protein shake
Snack- same as above
Dinner- 6 oz of lean meat, 1/2 cup of starch, 1 cup of veggies
I started the diet last Tuesday. Today marks the first week done.
I've work out four times last week and twice so far this week.
I'm suppose to lose 10-15 pounds on this diet and I haven't lost a single pound in the first week. I'm extremely nervous and worried why this isn't working for me when I'm trying so hard.
Does anyone have any advice? It's greatly appreciated

Insurance won't deny you, but it's common for doctors to hold off on surgery until after you can provide a negative result.
