BCs 1000 reacted to gary5862 in What the hell did I do to my body?
Do you ever have that moment of clarity where you step back and wonder "what the hell did I just do?". I had that moment and came to rant about it.
I had sleeve surgery on June 1st and since then:
- My clothes don't fit anymore. I went to wear my favorite shirt yesterday and it was TOO BIG!!!
- People keep telling me I'm looking great. The nerve of some people!
- I don't snore anymore. How am I supposed to annoy my wife while I'm asleep??
- I'm wearing size 38 pants now. I wore those in HIGH SCHOOL! I'm basically a high schooler now!!!
- My gentleman's sausage looks twice as big now. That's like twice as much to disappoint my wife!
- I don't sweat anymore. It is the middle of summer and I don't sweat even when I work out.
- My feet never hurt anymore. I used to have terrible foot pain and it is GONE!
I think I need to go sit in a quite place for a while and relax now.

BCs 1000 got a reaction from VSGAnn2014 in How to Make the Most Out of Buffets
I went to a buffet about a month ago. It was a total waste of money ($30 pp). As it was 'all you can eat', the food was very cheap and bulked out to fill up the people who go there to eat multiple plates.
I would much prefer to go somewhere expensive and order a decadent entree or just an extremely rich dessert. It costs the same anyway!
This is totally different to how I ate preop where I would fill my plate with rice or bread as it took a hell of a lot for me to feel full.

I haven't posted any pics in a while (hit my stretch goal a couple weeks ago now), but this is my absolute favorite before and after and really summarizes the reason I had surgery. My little girl is getting bigger and I've gotten smaller... hopefully she keeps holding my hand for a while longer. They just get so big so fast!

Some days, I still see myself as the person on the left in the mirror but am finally starting to accept that's not who I am anymore through pictures. Such a hard thing to get past mentally. Here's to being under 20 pounds from goal. Loving my sleeve! #happierandhealthier

I was more scared of my aches knees, high blood pressure, and increased chances of a shorter life because of being obese, then I was about losing my hair and saggy skin! [emoji3][emoji106] Good luck on Wednesday!

@@samararousse - I don't think this is a given. Many people do change old negative habits for new positive ones. But not always.
I will take advantage of the relative anonymity of the web and just say initially, I was really into sex. It was fun and novel. Being much lighter and in much better shape in my 50's it was more abundant and not as strenuous.
Things have calmed down now. I am in committed relationship...oh heck sex is probably still my new favorite addiction, but at least it is with the right person.

BCs 1000 reacted to jane13 in Question for veterans - hardest part for you?
@14 months post I would say its prepping for the maintenance mindset because the weight is still there (I would like to lose another 10 pounds). I believe the "honeymoon" is over and the -2lbs a week days ended about 8-9 months post.
I am still losing weight but very, very, very slowly. If I don't maintain my scale junkie mentality - weighing daily - I can creep up a couple of pounds too easily, because I am able to eat more and the emotional eater is still within me. I am 175 now and I am okay with that...but 165ish is my goal. Right now with personal stuff going on I am in "maintain, not gain" mode. If I lose, yeah...if I go more than 2-3 and stay there for a couple of days I try to really ramp up my Water. I am also trying the 16/8.
NO REGRETS!!!!

BCs 1000 reacted to LipstickLady in How to Make the Most Out of Buffets
Post sleeve, I decided it was MUCH better (FOR ME!!!!) to get the most out of my sleeve, not the most out of a party/buffet/open bar/all inclusive/salad bar/etc.
In a situation like yours, I probably would ask if I could get a one trip deal or a child's buffet. If I could not, I would either choose just to order a starter or drink. If that's still not an option, I would get a little bit of meat, a little bit of veggie, skip the Soup and the rice (because it makes me vomit). I would skip anything fried or breaded and look for seafood if they had it on the buffet.
I will never get my "money's worth" at any all you care to eat place, but I do get my money's worth at all my favorite REGULAR sized clothing stores!!

First of all WATCH THE RICE!!! It can hurt like the dickens! Don't try it out at a restaurant the first time!
Ok so here's my take on buffets and "getting my money's worth."
The value in a buffet for me is VARIETY not QUANTITY. When I typically eat out I either share a dish or order a small plate or appetizer or side portion of Protein or even order nothing and eat off my husband and two kids' plates. Great! Fine! Except it means I don't often get to pick what I eat and almost never get to eat more than one thing.
At a buffet I can literally have one small bite of 4, 5, 6 or sometimes (I am 2.5 years out) even more different items!
I can sample a piece of Protein from any number of mixed dishes, I can have a touch of this salad or that veggie. I can sample so many different things! To me that has become where the excitement is and the justification of the price tag.
And of course if it's a party and I am sitting there for two hours, guess what, I do graze! I plan for it in my day and eat accordingly and then graze for two hours, sticking to the best parts--seafood, chicken, sashimi, etc. I will eat several bites, wait half an hour and eat several more. And I feel like saving it for the protein and stuff I don't get on a regular basis instead of filling up on noodles and rice (which still hurts my stomach so I actually don't even try anymore) I get more of my money's worth anyhow--eat the expensive stuff!
Finally--the price is the price of the party and the companionship, not the food.
Tell us how it goes!

BCs 1000 reacted to GSleeve822 in Ok I have to ask...are things going too well? Am I overdoing it?
Lol my wife and I had surgery the same day. I was in a living hell, and as I'm dry heaving very loudly, I can hear her ask the nurse "is it weird that I don't feel nauseous or sore at all??".. I literally wanted to kill her lol. So anyway, you're good. Everyone's different. Be happy.

BCs 1000 reacted to Inner Surfer Girl in Risks on WLS
According to my surgeon the biggest risks are blood clots and pneumonia. They do a great deal to mitigate those risks. For me it came down to the fact that I was at much higher risk of dying from obesity than from surgery.
Talk to your surgeon about your fears. He or she should be able to help you put them in perspective.
